  • Junk removal is often a assumed service that you need a complete operation of fancy trucks and trailers, but in reality, can be done with just a pick up truck. Here's an example of how I can still manage many of my jobs using just my truck.

I'm doing exactly what you're doing with my gig. Nissan truck and utility trailer. I rent box trucks for larger cleanouts. ALL of my advertising and leads are with Facebook groups/marketplace (sneaky!) and the NextDoor app. I started June of last year and have served around 100 customers. I only do it part time as well, I work in IT full time. It's worth the extra money and is a cool learning experience. Great video btw.

100 clients PT is hefty in my opinion. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!

I see more and more people doing this. Do you feel like the areas are getting overly saturated with people trying to do this? Always enjoy watching and supporting anyone willing to work for themselves to get ahead.

Of course, but its the same for every business. Look at contractors, handyman's, landscapers, movers, etc.. These businesses have been on the up rise of self-doers for years. Every business gets the saturation, junk removal happens to be an easy way that doesn't need a "trade skill" or expensive equipment to get it done efficiently. I think over the long run, the guys doing it as side hustles will only get so far or stop on their own before really making an impact.

Thank you for the info. I have a SUV…Toyota Highlander the seats of which can be folded down to create space. You think this would work…though I have to multiple trips.

Anything is possible, though, I'd be cautious of putting "junk" inside my car. Junk is always clean, you get rodents, bugs, maggots, bed bugs, etc.. There's people who use SUVs and vans though so its doable!

What’s the difference in gas mileage between just a truck and your truck trailer combo. Might be worth taking the trailer over going back for 2 loads if the job was a little bigger than expected.

It was 1 trip, just took an extra 15 minutes to cut stuff up. If it was a bigger than expected load, I'd go to their local dump if needed. Gas mileage with a trailer would've been about double in $.

I'd start with Facebook and Nextdoor. Comment on relevant posts that you do Junk Removal or deliveries and build traction that way
