    I only have 1 dump trailer and i feel like when I price a job I really can’t give trailer load pricing because i feel like it’s better to load the whole trailer and then go to the dump so I can afford the minimum dump fees. What would be the other better way to price a job? Or how would someone like me with just 1 trailer offer prices? Also I’ve noticed in the past when I gave trailer load pricing they want a exact quote, they keep insisting on what will be the exact amount(I guess to compare)

      You need to wrap your head around the fact that you are a BUSINESS. As you are finding, customers can be cheap. That's not your problem. NEVER give an exact quote unless you are on site and you feel comfortable doing so. If they don't understand why you cannot offer a firm price, after explaining cost is by volume etc., then they are not a customer for you. Truck or trailer.
    WxLxH ÷ 27 = cubic yards of space
    Then assign a value #.
    My trailer is 7Wx14Lx4H which is 14.5 cubic yard trailer.
    I charge $34.48 per cubic yard of space.
    So....... If you only take up 1 cubic yard (never happens) you pay $34.48 in trailer space + 10% for dump fee and then of course taxes.........
    When it comes to heavy items like fridges and over sized furniture (sectionals and sleeper sofas) then I add $100 per item.
    If you fill my trailer up to capacity and you have 1 fridge. That's $500 + $100 = $600 x 10% then add sales taxes 9.4% (in my area) = $722.70
    It really is no hard but so many people make it hard.

    I just found your videos! Very cool, thank you for posting them!
    Question, do you participate in disaster cleanup?
    If so, do the authorities / govt ever contact you if you are in a list of contractors willing to help? Do you use an excavator in conjunction with your trucks and trailers?
    I ask because im interested in traveling with my 16 ft PJ dump trailer and 4ton Yanmar vio35-6A mini excavator. I can pull bushes, branches, trash, crazy fast with that thumb. And the machine makes it super easy to sort and segregate wood, plastics, concrete and steel from one another into separate piles. I'm thinking disaster cleanup would be a place that my machine could be useful although i say "thinking" because I've never done any disaster cleanup. Heck, maybe it's all voluntary anyway. Or do home owners exclusively pay for it? Or does Fema help? I don't know how that works...

      What is considered overkill to one, is realistic to another. In my opinion, get what you want. I've seen people use a Tacoma to pull a trailer rated for 20k. I know close to nothing about North Dakota but if you're in a rural area you might want to get a diesel since it sounds like you'll be traveling some distance to get from customer to customer. We have a 25 mile radius that is loosely considered out service are. I would start there unless there is 1 person per town where you live lol.

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not so much levels but if you imagine, front to back, yes. Heres a good way to explain it. Our truck is 12ft long.12x12 = 144 giving us the number of inches from front to back. Divide 144 by 13 and thats gets you a little over 11 inches. So, for every 11 inches the customer fills, front to back, thats a price point! Like I explained in the video, I do this because a fair amount of people in my area are OBSESSED with getting a deal or making sure they are not getting ripped off. Unfortunately there are too many contractors that DO rip people off so this assumption is kind of warranted. With this many price points I never have to deal with that. Others in the junk removal game definitely think thats too many to have but it's what works best for me and makes my life easier.

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ClutchJunk Look at it this way. What did you charge customer 1? If you took a 1/4 load, then customer 2 only has 3/4 of space left to fill. If customer 2 fills a 1/2 truck then you truck would be 3/4 full. I typically give a price before starting as well. If their is shit everywhere or piles of junk that you cant see beneath, I give them an estimate and state that they will be charged by volume blah blah blah and all of that.

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't mention any of my prices on my website because multiple "businesses" in my area doing the same thing used me as the example when they said they're cheaper than me. My customers told me this. Anytime I speak with a potential customer over the. phone or through email the minimum is brought up if their pick up is going to fall under that amount. I'm the most transparent guy there is when it comes to pricing. Just because I don't offer it to the world/online doesn't mean I'm "hiding the fact" or "sketchy". SMH

      @@SteveConroy1 Ok, so what kind of percentage of callers bail when you mention a $95 min? I mean, your competition still knows your prices, so really nothing has changed by not having prices listed on your website, right? As a customer I usually skip a business that's not listing basic prices upfront unless nobody else will answer their phone at 11AM on a Thursday, those are the worst. My point is, are you wasting time with tire kickers because you didn't filter those useless callers by not mentioning the $95 min fee in your advertising.

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@loafandjug321 If my phone rings, I close almost every job. The ones I don't close are people who think we're a free service. Or they want an estate cleanout for less than half of what the jobs is worth to someone in our business. If someone has a pick up that falls under the minimum, they either have no problem with it or they wait until they have a little more to throw out (still under the minimum cost) and get more of a bang for their buck when we schedule the job. But, yes, I definitely had someone tell me that my minimum is ridiculous and that they would never pay that to get rid of one item and 9 times out of 10 they'll call back a week later and ask me to do the. job because they called around and everyone else's minimum is higher. Not all customers are your customer. If someone wants a job done cheap, I'm happy to be the guy thats's not doing it. This is a business not a favor station.

    • @loafandjug321

      @@SteveConroy1 I understand, bidding wars with competition isn't even interesting. Have you tried using US Post Office "Every Door Direct Mail"? You can target very specific neighborhoods, like wealthy neighborhoods and apartment complexes for about $0.06 each mailing + the printed mailer cost. Your competition wouldn't have a clue about those leads. One of those mailer leads could pay for a full month of very targeted local customers. Search Google for "Every Door Direct Mail" on a desktop pc and use the post office map tool, it's really awesome. I'm sure there's tutorials here on TH-cam.

    • @SteveConroy1
      @SteveConroy1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@derrickmorrison1022 You’ve got it mixed up. Charging by the yard is basically the same as by volume. The only difference is what the bill looks like (1/2 truck load or 7.5 yards). On top of that, you decided how much weight you include. Are you including 1 ton for a full load or 2? How much weight are you including if the customer fills a 1/2 load? The only times you have to “check weight” is when your removing extremely heavy material. Nine times out of ten, your average junk removal job is not going over 1 ton. I hope this helps!
