This is a sad reality for most of us South Africans. The large number of mines in south africa has not necessarily resulted in an increase in the standard of living for most mine workers as most of these mines are foreign-owned. The decreasing commodity prices makes this industry a not so lucrative one as it once was, compounded by the policy uncertainty and corruption in south africa. this escalates the rate of mine closures which is also expensive to safely close down and convert into a garbage dumping area so most mines just leave them as they are. south africa, with one of the highest unemployment rates (27%) and a country with one of the youngest population- average age 27(debatable)- unemployed citizens living in mine towns try their luck I these abandoned mines. This creates gangs and rivals which can turn out to be deadly. I'm proud of *UNREPORTED WORLD* for reporting this in the most truthful and factual manner.
It's so sad. Before the white men were the enemy and south Africans had to literally die and fight for their own country. But now apartheid is gone and the whites not in power...who's to blame? Its now the blacks causing all these issues. Its so sad
The biggest crime is the company at Durban deep which extracted $20 Billion worth of gold and yet the area/ country is still so poor. The Government in South Africa is particularly to blame due to widespread corruption.
@@stevendale7658 Right, because once you kick out the white men like they did out of Zimbabwe corruption goes away, because it's a racial trait. Oh wait, no, sorry. The thing that gets me is that those hard working people hope for gold and sometimes they get nothing. It’s life or death for these people that have so much hope. They just wanna live a life that they don’t have to worry if their gonna put food on the table. I can’t believe that outside of your home RIGHT NOW these hard working people are under ground looking for gold...
Oh God! my heart bleeds for my fellow Zimbabweans. My heart ached when Connie narrated her story i just couldn't stop the tears running. To my dear brothers Freedom and friends these are good guys just trying to survive in a cruel world, they are just doing what they got to do, like they say when the world gives u nothing u take what u can. This in my hometown. When we were young there were just open plains and the mine dump. Young athletes would run through the area from the nearby township to the entrance of Durban Deep and back. I as a young girl once walked through the route all the way to the town close by alone. It hurts me to think that same excercise would be a death wish today. Foreigners from neighbouring countries have taken over the area, there are shacks and crime everywhere there. They have even taken over the old mine company houses that have been left abondoned when the mines closed. When you hear of the high crime rates and violence in South Africa no one takes into account that we have become overrun by desperate immigrants while our government is serving the interests of external bodies and themselves.
i watch these kinds of videos, and when i compare my lives to them I am literally in paradise. This is very sad and i can't do anything about it without money or power

Tanaka Black I’m not even from there and my heart was breaking and bleeding at the same time. It hurts and it hurts bad knowing this terrible horrible life they are living.
True it's so painful 😭 especially for us Zimbabweans we are suffering in foreign lands just to earn ends meat😭😭.. May God bless our nation 😭
I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I had no idea this is what's happening in Durban, South Africa😮
Covert Wasp dude you are stupid Covert Wasp bruh two weeks ago I was in Africa with my son for holiday and legit Africa is growing. I was surprised to see big malls that were even bigger than the one here in Australia. It was beautiful and we are planning to go back next year again
Its happenin in jhb not durbs
Helen Ntlokwana u dumb like literally everyone knew that wtf
@@EmmanuelAU03 so you actually thought that Africa was full of bushes and villages! You are so ignorent! Wow!
Sindile Mkhatywa never said that mate 😇
I feel so happy seeing people who still have the courage to live a life and people who still don’t give up
This place is the living example of " Hell "....☹️☹️☹️😢
welcome back, unreported world. i remember the first series of this came out when i was in uni - i think i watched every episode at least three times. glad this show's back, quality journalism here.
RESPECT TO THE REPORTER AND THE BOYS. GOD BLESS YOU ALL
Your documentaries are just amazing 😙
Hannah _lolz_ your
@@brianz2802 Sorry about that XX♥️♥️
even people from Zimbabwe ...wow my country needs to wake up economically ASAP
Unbelievable the risk to reward. I still wish I could save the world, but more powerful people than me would rather it be how it is.
If the corporations abandoned the mines, you can bet they are relatively worthless.
Exactly. Just a few crumbs.
I loves how the narrator is so emotional and the way he hugs the raped lady was a nice and an intelligent way of comforting the lady
*i cant do this because i saw three brothers get trapped down there after the rocks collapsed they all died after 7 days of fruitless search*
I felt gutted for those gold miners when they didn’t find any gold.and what that young lady had to endure was horrendous
I like raw documentary like this
No filter
He asked her if he could give her a hug, wagered he would cos he seemed so nice and respectful.
Just when you think you have it tough, you see something like this that gives you a new reality.... Horrible how these people are living....
Hi five to the notification people 🖐
🖐
Oh God! my heart bleeds for my fellow Zimbabweans. My heart ached when Connie narrated her story i just couldn't stop the tears running. To my dear brothers Freedom and friends these are good guys just trying to survive in a cruel world, they are just doing what they got to do, like they say when the world gives u nothing u take what u can. My question is to u REPORTED WORLD do you render any type of assistance to these people or u just profit from them? If u do would like to know how they have progressed.
I am in awe of the bravery of these most poor ignored people I actually cried. Thank u for this eye opening information.
Brave men, I couldn’t do what they do. Their trying to survive and support their families risking their lives. These are real men, I respect them fully. 4 hour to get down the tunnels? My goodness. I pray God watches over these people.
To all none South Africans "Zama Zama" the name given to these guys means "Just Try" or "take chances"
I stayed next to Durban deep for a year. People are killed there daily. Someone just gets shot in the street and life just goes on like nothing happened
After everything going on down in those mines the brothers seem so happy! Sucks they didn’t find anything though 😔 I wish them all the best and that they find what they deserve after putting in such hard work!
i feel so sad for these guys i cant imagine going so deep without proper equipment or safety protocols. what a hard way to survive
I'm glad I found this channel please don't stop making this video like this keep it up I love this vidoes
How respectful was Seyi when he asked permission to give the poor girl a hug?. What an endearing heart this man has..
These guys are so hard working ! That could be such a great country with a amazing work force! So sad
They would be a world power of it wasn't for the corruption in the government. All politics are local, but corruption goes all the way to the top!
Nice to see the reporter ask to hug Konni. Shows good understanding and respect for a woman whose been through a lot.
let's just take this moment to appreciate how fortunate we are
taking this time to thank the guy who is reporting its been thre years but nw atlist thise mines are nw veing closed great job bro
Very sad to see ! I really enjoyed this , great quality video!
South Africa has been in decline ever since the mid nineties for some reason.
1/10 would not mine gold in abandoned SA mines again
Great video but heartbreaking at the same time. Lots of good people just trying to make it while being oppressed by their own. Reporter was great. Would like to see more from him
Fantastic Documentary and the host particularly did a wonderful job.
as i was watching this, i realize how strange it is to some people getting use to danger. risking their lives to survive. this is just a sad reality.
It’s honestly disgusting to see what the governments of South Africa have done with to that nation.
It's not the government but flippen foreign companies!!
Why doesn't that film crew help that poor girl. I know she is one of many, but they encountered her and had her in their video... they should help her.
This reporter is amazing.
Being an opal miner here in Australia I can appreciate how dangerous those abandoned drives are,I actually explore abandoned mines but you would not get me in that one for any amount of money. In having said that I understand why they do it,its either that or starve sad but true.
you should make some videos
i think the reporters name and the crew's names should be mentioned in the description or in the video(for all videos)
As a South African, i can say that i really feel as though South Africans are generally jolly people- we just like having fun. Many foreign people that i've spoken to share the same observation
yeah nje we have to much energy
9:57 "Hold this dog butthole" ?
I'm guessing that's the clean version of "Hold this, you bitch ass."
Just before the reporter says how they were making jokes to each other despite the situation.
Why you always making me hold the dangerous stuff.
This is a sad part of South Africa
I live in Pretoria and grew up in a safe and wealthy family and sometimes I forget about these parts
what a powerful statement by lady i failed if i do not go back with something

The reporter is very proffesional and you can see he is a educated young man
I cry for all my fellow Zimbabweans scattered all over this world just because their government cant manage the economy. Too bad the future is looking worser now. ED is even more clueless about the economy than Mugabe.
man that host guy seems so nice, u can just feel his humane personality
The most important question to ask is , WHO ACTUALLY BUYS THIS GOLD?
😆😆😆do you really need an answer to that? Stop playing
I do think its valid. As its not spoken about often and investigated.
Augustinus h pawn shops also buy them and a lot of places in hillbrow
African Gold in the center of Joburg
At 8.43.. so much of pain and still calm.salutes to you mother.
This type of living in order to survive is no joke. May GOD, provide a way out for these people & protect them under these extreme circumstances.
simon heywood I know. I wouldn’t last 5 minutes there, seriously.
