In the Final Episonde Part 6, Clardy Clay fields questions about Muscle Guys and a few others in the Early 70s such as Verlis Swan, Elvis Dexter and Big Chest Larry.
East Side Bishops Clardy Clay born in Los Angeles 1955. He grew up with on the east side of South Los Angeles, attended Russel Elementary and Drew Jr High School before dropping out of Jefferson High School and graduating to the California Department of Corrections in 1973. In 1974 he found himself in Tracy Prison with his childhood friend, Raymond Washington.

Watching this is so funny… because as a fan and a genuine love for working out. I use to have a Instagram account and I followed Craig Monson and I use to always find it down to earth if I commented on his post he’d sometimes reply or like it. I found out about him through CT Fletcher. I’m from Kansas City Missouri 33 yrs old never got into bangin but I was athlete loved working out but did street shid growing up just never did no time and I’m grateful Alhamdulilah. Now I drive 18 wheelers coast to coast!
Same here. I can largely identify with the crips because of the weightlifting and the fist fighting. I was a petty criminal and a bully at best, did only 6 months..i'm not much of a gangster. But those stories from the 70s alwyays draw me to KMV
I still lift weights and hit the heavy bag at 33 but if in need money i just go to work (on and off, to keep the strain on my back low and to change my environment from time to time)

That last 30sec hit hard. “Friends , or just people I know” . 2 weeks after my father passing away Coming from Chicago to Compton/Carson in 03 as a 14 year old starting high school lemme tell you I didn’t know what to expect and now as a 33 year old today Just off the top of the head I can name maybe 50 minimum nighas thats passed since 05 but if we talking about friends like my brothers fasho I got about 5 that moms know granny know last name first name type shit and that Shit is difficult Asf to deal with .
What's crazy is as your life evolves your friends change, they're here for seasons... which at the end of the day you're the average of the 5 ppl around you.

We had a Compton Bishop to tell the whole story but he flaked.
The bishops had eastside westside compton just like the crips but it never flourished like the crips did. The brims had downtown, westside and eastside sets but lost most of it to the crips. The early crips were powerful

I think the most popular ones would be the walnuts ... And the gay 90s (LOL). Don't laugh. It meant something else back in the day. They were at locke high, shot mac thomas' house up and made him move to compton. They were also at freemont. The mccoy boys who were beefing with raymond and craig craddock were also brims (dusty mccoy). The brims had a presence in fremont and locke early on (and john muir) and got pushed out later, into downtown area and the small pockets we know today. Brims were huge in 1970
It's interesting how the body building culture of Southern California in the late 60's through the 70's impacted LA's gang culture. Body building was huge in LA beginning in the 60's all the way through the 80's. Venice Beach may be know more for homeless people now. But back then it was known as Muscle Beach due to all the body builders that came through there to work out. The muscle and intimidating look of Craig Munson had to play a role in Raymond's desire to be down wtih him and the Avenues. Of course Munson rejected Raymond and we know the rest of the story.
raymond emulated craig monson because raymond was a buff teenager. up until 1972 he was even bigger than tookie. raymond stopped lifting weights in his late teens and fell off, while others kept the style they adapted from the avenues

Fantastic interview! And the guy was very honest. What he knew, he knew. If he didn't know, he would tell you and he spoke on things he knew with factual knowledge. Excellent. Based on the pictures though, Munson was bigger than Scwarzenegger, the picture of him flexing the bicep, you can't even see Arnold's FACE.
