Literally my favourite Xmen of all time. Was happy to see her get her big screen debut in the New Mutants, and I thought Anya Taylor-Joy embodied the character perfectly. Hope Marvel keeps her on and doesn't recast her.
Despite all the panning I actually enjoyed most of The New Mutants movie 🤷♂️.

I really like her and Anya Taylor-Joy is perfect casting for her, though I thought the movie was bad and they made her racist for some stupid reason.
In New Mutants, I love that she’s part mutant, part demonic sorceress and a cool bitch
Illyana is my most favorite of the mutants besides Jean Grey.
1st is Dani, 2nd is magik, 3rd is Rhane
of the New Mutants, Sunspot is my favorite, Then Magik more so because of personality and not power.

What a great storyline! The MCU should recreate this in a movie series. Magik is Marvel’s ”Raven, ” She has dark powers and can transform herself into a demonic entity. Magik is an underrated character.

Second: Magyk's story is complex and crazy bc it REALLY covers a lot of bases on an inter-demensional character. Like ALL across her story arcs that you wove together really well.

I loved her in New Mutants and comic wise the fact she was part of the Exinction team and Phoenix 5 is impressive.
I brought the issue where she died in 94 and was greatly saddened by her tragic death. Thank you for the update of Magik. I'm glad she's back
That issue is heartbreaking but its some of the worst X-Men art I’ve ever seen, that rough in between period after Lee/Silvestri and before Madureira came

I love Illyana so much, She doesn't get the respect she deserves. Though with seeing her more after House of X and Powers of X . She'll obviously have part in Xof Swords giving how good the X books are now that may change. As new people are introduced to her.
Yeah Magik/Dark Child was one of my favorite characters. I liked her complexity. I hated that they killed her off then brought her back. I didn't like how she was written or the story line they used to bring her back
She conquered and ruled a hell dimension! She should be at least Goblin Queen level in power even without her mutation.

Soooooooo good. Illyana has always been my favorite mutant but in my mid twenties I stopped following her story, I’m now 54. This video brought me up to date and for that I’m grateful.

Magik has slowly became one of my favorite X-men for sure.
OMG That was the BEST shizz. The entire Magik series took place between 2 frames of a New Mutants issue. She goes in to a hole as a kid and in the next frame, her brother pulls her out of the hole as a young adult. What happened? Well they wrote a whole 4 issue mini series to explain. So dope. SO much has happened since I stopped collecting them, thanks for filling that in for me. Also can we just acknowledge the GENIUS that is Bill Sienkiewicz's New Mutants art for a minute? I mean really. Masterwork.

That actually happens in Uncanny X-Men #160, Illyana doesn’t show up in the New Mutants until issue #14 I believe
And by the time she shows up in New Mutants she’s already been to Limbo and grown

After watching new mutants, I couldn't get her character out of my my head. Even tho they simplified her character A LOT anya did an amazing job portraying her. Best part of the movie

I loved Magick the character. Her 4 part limited series is still one of my favorite series. When she became a member of the New Mutants, was a time of great joy for me then became a time of great sadness. The artwork in the comics went from excellent artwork of Chris Clarmont to the crap we find at 13:24 with the introduction of Magus. I tried to press on but the artwork was so bad it destroyed the story. I dropped the title because of the artwork, then a few months later I stopped collecting and reading Marvel comics all together because the artwork in most of the titles I read took a serous nose dive.
This was sooo so good!!!! I really wish “The New Mutants” movie was a series instead of a film! It was honestly a great movie but soooo Swiss cheezy because there were so many plot holes and gaps in the storyline ect and it would have done so much better as a series!!! Anna Taylor joy played Magik so well!!!

Thanks for condensing that mixey, messy history of Iliana. I started reading X-men comics after she died from the legacy virus, Magneto ripped the adamantium out of Wolverine, Infinity Watch was a thing and later on the Phalanx Saga happened. I think it’s awesome that these stories that we enjoyed during our childhood continue to bring joy and fun to this day.

No spoilers but they're not getting a sequel to the movie too many issues during production and the fact that they had to release it in movie theaters dorin Corona and on top of that the fact that they didn't do as much reshoots as they wanted. It made the movie average, to not just my opinion too, but to some others. there's no way that she's getting a TV series or movie anytime soon which is sad because you might say even after the fact of me watching the movie I can definitely say if all they did was simply made it so that she was like the backbone of the story and switched how they did it just a little bit, like they still could have went to the prison School at the beginning but switched it up to the point that they all got trapped inside limbo and and even staying true to doing it in a horror style way with demonic beings and sorcery for most of the movie, and then at the end still have them escaped from there just to end up back at the school to fight the evil lady at the end. They could have did this and focus on introducing the other characters at the same time.
But that's just my opinion.

The Dark Phoenix Saga was a comic book story as well and yet both normies and "comic book purist" alike hated it, both times! Fact is, this is a movie based off a comic book property.So, If you're not going to put the effort into doing it right you shouldn't do it at all. This movie was a blatant cash grab in an effort to court the YA/ twilight audience. It's not a good comic book movie or horror. It goes beyond not pleasing anyone. This movie leaves people with a roaring case of blue balls.
Instead of turning off your mind with crap entertainment like this, do like I suggested, stimulate your mind and go read the actual "Demon Bear Saga."

The New Mutants was my gateway into the X-Men. My favorite NM's were Magik, Mirage, Warlock, and oddly enough Cipher. I think the complex friendship between Dani and Illyana/ Warlock and Doug is was really put them in my top spots. In terms of Cipher I always felt he wasn't utilized right.
This was amazingly enjoyable really appreciate it I'm a lil bit of ADHD so my mind can't stay focused long enough to read the comics surprisingly I could stand still for the audio version

Christopher Hoyt But I personally thought that Anya-Taylor Joy still did a great job with her performance as the character. The origins may not have been completely accurate to the comics (which they probably changed it so that it could fit into the story) but I felt Anya really embodied the character perfectly. I don’t know, it’s probably just me....

so what exactly is her mutant power? i thought it was the stepping discs, but it seems no, her power just lets her control them (they;re already a thing), which begs the question what else can her power do??
She can defin cast spells
Pretty sure it’s the ability to teleport, and the use(or need) of the discs was because her powers manifested while in Limbo.
By her feats, and the abilities as Darkchylde, she’s beyond Omega, but always seems de-powered until it’s necessary.
Or it’s “temporarily suppressing Limbo’s demonic taint...” 😃
Her armor is also part of her power like her brothers, and each time she used her weapon the armor fills more n more of her body,
