I'm in 2nd year preparation class for engineering school in France and we are all waiting the results of the exams, to know for what shcools we'll have to fight to get... lots of the smartest students for some of the most difficult courses, sadly, I'm not in paris, so we have a cool ambiance instead of everyone fighting for the 10 places in the best schools. I can only wonder how pretentious some people in here can be...
Yet I still have a funny story, a friend of mine was waiting to know where he would go for his studies, he told me that he couldn't do PREPA (the preparatory classes for the highest schools in France) yet he would consider a Parisian one... in fact he put himself in multiple, highly selective cursus in Paris ! he had very good grades but he was sure he would get there beacause of his private highschool ! Dude, you are fighting against all of France and I don't think they know your highschool even exist ! Reims is known for Champagne, people doesn't even know about pink biscuits (one of our local specialities) so they won't know about your school... He still got what he wanted the most : a buissness school in Italy.
Long story short : guy claims he couldn't endure a pretty difficult formation, yet considers a harder version beacause of his highscool...

Wouldn't say hideous but it kinda left me speechless. We were during the pandemic so masks were mandatory. My new 10th grade students had never seen me without a mask. I have a full beard that peeked from under the mask. When the mask mandate lifted mid school year, I walked into class and the students gasped about how different I looked. One of my favorite students, a blue haired smart ass girl said "With the mask you look like a nice old man who would give me candy. Without the mask you look like a nice old man who would give me candy then stuff me in his van"...I asked if she wanted me to put the mask back on. I love my students, but not like THAT!

My senior year I had all my credits, and thankfully, my freshman class was the last year not required the full four years of math(I SUCK at math), so I had Psychology as one of my electives. Teacher was awesome, and I enjoyed the class for the most part. One day a girl next to me was talking to her friend and completely disrupting the lesson. The teacher came over and told her he was trying to teach, and she looked him dead in the eye and said, "Excuse me! We're talking!" He took her out of class, and I shared a look of pure disbelief at her stupidity and rudeness with the boy behind me, who I also had another class with and had known for a couple years. He and I weren't friends, but we were on the same page at that moment.

Loved the silence after, “I’m going to be a rapper.” I had more than one student tell me that they didn’t need school as they were going on welfare. I told them they better learn their math lessons because otherwise they wouldn’t know if their checks were right or if they were being cheated at a store. Not sure how well they learned their math lessons but by the end of the year they knew math was important for everyday life and they needed to figure it out. These were 7th graders

15:20 this stuff is actually real though. A lot of people with southern accents are turned down for jobs or have their qualifications questioned simply because of their accent. Many start intentionally hiding it. Sure, the southern dialect does have a slower pace and some questionable grammar sometimes, but that doesn't mean southerners are uneducated. Some of the best schools in the country are in the south. Don't judge someone by their accent

7:11 there's a saying, "open your mouth and slit your throat". The student has a comedy act and has a part for YOU as the straight man. If you try to be witty and respond to the student, then it's "showtime". If you stay silent, the student has to do all the work herself and the show bombs.
