Lol. When I told my dad I plan on dying my hair green. He gave me a funny look and asked me why I would choose green over a natural colour. I told him it was because I already HAD a natural colour

As for the adults in our childhood enjoying...recreational goodies, I have a cool story. I didn't actually start smoking green until I was in my early 20s. I'd taken DARE very seriously as a kid and "didn't know any adults who did drugs" until after I was convinced by some very level headed peer pressure. After I realized how calm and relaxed I was, once I was done coughing my lungs out, I didn't really keep it a secret. My stepdad found the whole thing hilarious, since he was on the receiving end of a few lectures from my mom about "I don't care that you smoke pot, but can you just not do it on the day they come back from DARE, please?"
It took way too long for me to realize it wasn't just cigarette smoke I always smelled from my stepdad's room. Then my mom talked about the time she got a really shitty joint from the next door neighbor we had WHEN I WAS IN FIRST GRADE!! and the stories just opened up from there. I'd been surrounded by potheads when I was growing up, they were just really good about not being obvious about it and I was oblivious to it. Stepdad left me his Volcano Vaporizer after he passed because he found it hilarious that I eventually had something in common with him, and it's in my linen closet even now. With the legalization of marijuana on the state level, I think he'd be tickled pink, purple and blue at the available selections these days and loves the fact that my mom and I sometimes split a bag of edibles and reminisce. He definitely did more than just pot, unfortunately that lead to him no longer being with us, but I never went further than that and he wouldn't have approved if I did. I'm just glad that I eventually found something to bond with him over and I'm never getting rid of the volcano.

13:59 at some school, teachers wear a microphone that transmits their voice to a speaker in the classroom. It works great for students with hearing impairments or ADHD. My mother taught at a school where one of the teachers forgot to take the microphone off for specials. These were radio transmitters, and could pass through walls. Everyone in the classroom heard that teacher flush the toilet.

for story seven I remember something from school:
Our uniform used to be gray pants for boys, and skirts for women. during winter women started to wear tights becuase of the cold, but the daughter of someone who became our pincipal one year said in an assembly that the tights looked ugly under the skirts, and since they weren't specified as a part of the school uniform, she was banning them.
All the girls as a kind of protest, asked the male students for a pair of their pants to wear to school instead. they weren't very warm honestly but they were at least better than the skirt. I even gave a pair of mine to my sister.
The ban never got lifted but because not even the teachers supported it, nobody actually enforced it apart from like the first week. I think that principal still works at that school but kinda like a secretary, and the old principal got put back in place instead the next year,

Whenever someone was making a pitch to sell my dad something, he ended the conversation as soon as religion was thrown in as a great “and this is why you know you will never be cheated” sales point. More times than not, the religion line meant you were about to be scammed.

My good friend is serving a sentence. He was always the follow-the-rules guy and I'm the anarchist so he's had a sharp learning curve. The prison is a rigid hierarchy and, of course, the lower levels abuse this by claiming that the rules say whatever they want it to say. By law, a copy of the rules (all 185 of them) have to be available in the library and on each wing which they are - in a locked cabinet and a locked desk respectively. I sent him his own copy and suddenly he's getting a lot less hassle.

WHAT YOUR STORY IS THE SAME AS MY MOMS STORY OMG-
So, when my mom was in high school, they allowed smoking. But to do it you had to be outside, during lunch period. Now, all of her friends smoked, and she wanted to hang out with them. So she did the only thing she could think of: begin smoking as well. She has since quit smoking though

The good news is the surviving child is no almost 50 with the help of a lung part transplant from my brother in law. With the advancements being made that momma may indeed see her son live a decently long life or even better by the time he's grown, and he may have babies

At the 35 minute mark, the story about the girl with the “transforming” experience… that’s Petunia Dursley… Harry Potter’s Aunt… aunt and sister were close, lily and petunia, drifted apart, lily discovered her magic abilities that petunia didn’t have, friend from school that influenced, Severus snape who was lilys best friend, different clothes were witch robes, experimenting were classes, marrying school friend, James Potter, kids around the same time were Dudley and Harry, the lifestyle that was glossed over was the wizarding world, the car crash lie was what they told Harry and they freaked out anytime magic was even mentioned. It’s a pretty good synopsis of the situation while still being a troll post. Fantastically done. Almost missed it.

I always tell the story of my coworker. She is on the older side so i dont blame her for her misconceptions. My daughter has autism but i dont tell people that. I accidentally let it slip to my coworker and her first response is "what is she good at?". Like autism is video game perk with some upside and a downside.
I told this story to one of my professors at the time and his reaction was "but she isnt just that, she has hopes and dreams. She loves thing and hates things. She isnt just some label". He was my favorite teacher because of the way he was. It is hard to describe him without using terms that in text would seem creepy. He was a humanitarian clown if that helps.

"Anything the administration deems disruptive" Having staff make up rules and randomly harass students with them is... disruptive. Why don't teachers _get that_ ! In my entire school career neither mine nor anyone else's clothes have ever interfered with my ability to learn. When class is stopped because a teacher would rather yell about hoodies than teach the friggin class, that really interfered with my learning.

On story 2 (30:12) my case was the complete opposite! Every doctor when I was younger denied my autism except my mother. She had taken care of children for many years and it wasn’t just babies, there were teenagers and young adults too. My mother was always up front about any questions I had about my autism, so much so that I was proud of it! (Which I still am) everywhere I went with mother I’d tell random people “Hi I’m me and I have autism! Wanna be friends?!” With the most goofiest smile.
I mean I DID make a lot of adults giggle and talk to me but GEEZ that was that kinda embarrassing now when I think back on it.
(I’m High functioning autistic if anyone wanted to know)

Same for my son. In the UK, my son was seen on the NHS and went to the CDC (child development center). They wouldn't give a diagnosis as they 'didn't want to label him'. We had to pay privately to get a diagnosis, not pushing, but so that we could actually help our son. He is mid-range autistic and will probably never hold down a job outside the home. He was terrified at school, every, single, day. Until we took him out and homeschooling him. It was 6 months before I could even put a book in front of him because the teachers just nagged him and bullied him to read. When we had him tested, they found that he is profoundly dyslexic. It took me another five years to teach him to literally read, but not remember what he has read. The teachers, even though there was a special needs teacher, never bothered testing him, just bullied him.

I wasn't totally sold on my sister's husband. I met them shortly after they got engaged and took them out for lunch. I went through the usual questions. Do you make each other happy, do your career goals align, are you on the same page when it comes to kids, what's the plan for your future as a team, do you understand that if you hurt her I will cut your body into pieces and mail them to your parents one chunk at a time, etc. At one point my sister went back to her car and we were chatting just the two of us. I asked him what drew him to my sister in the first place. His answer was so sweet it gave me a cavity. "The first time I saw that girl, I knew I'd follow her anywhere." Approval gained. They've been married for a couple years now and haven't had to prep a bone saw and postage.

the clean air break is great - my mom worked at a dr office when i was a kid and about half the staff there were smokers. the smokers were taking 7+ 15 minute breaks constantly every day forcing my mom and the others to pick up their slack. to give them a taste of their own medicine my mom and a few others bought a bunch of candy cigarettes that even included the ability to blow powdered sugar out of the paper wrapper like smoke.
they then proceeded to take constant "smoke" breaks all day for a few days. after that the smokers were way better about how they behaved. my sisters and i also got to enjoy the leftover candy.

At the fast food place I work at, we HAVE to have press-to-talk headsets for the drive-thru because people kept getting in trouble because of unmuted mics. We'd forget the customers could hear us talking to each other about how stupid they were and how loud their car was.

    • @aarondaley5885

The curse of drive-thru headsets. A co-worker accidentally said "Will someone shut that kid up" over a live headset. He later became a manager. It's only happened twice in 7 years but sometimes the customer says something crazy after their order, not realizing we can hear them. I will always remember the guy telling someone over the phone where the cocaine is. He had to repeat his instructions a few times because the other guy was an idiot.

I think what won my now mother in law over was my absolute dedication to their family. Mine is extremely small, having a whole 4 members in the states, and that does include me. But since we got together, I’ve tried my absolute best to always be helpful in any situation that her family comes across (general household help, moving, yard work, you name it). I’ve gone from original threats of jail time (I was 19 when we got together, my wife was 17) to being a valued member of the family who is regularly asked to house sit regularly while having a mini fridge stocked with my favorite beer always on hand. I love my family!

Had a shipment of large, heavy items to send to a prison. I knew that shipments via FedEx (about $200 to ship the product in the smallest boxes possible, but a large number of them) would be damaged or lost, so I was going to ship it by freight. One pallet, heavy, about $400 to ship because it's going to a prison. The boss told me to FedEx it anyway, so I did. We lost about ¾ of the shipment and with costs for shipping twice, eating the cost of lost product, and replenishment of our stock, it cost us well over $1000. The very definition of jumping over dollars to save dimes.

I used to work on staff for a sightseeing tour, where we would send out boats of people and tourists (who are technically people, but less self awareness), and it was my job managing the dock, and guiding the traffic in the area to make sure people got on and off the boats. Sometimes there would be people in wheelchairs would would need my assistance in getting them across the ramps safely. The pay was okay, but I got zero respect from my superiors.
I was given the legitimately worst task of the staff, and here is why: if customers complained that they didn't get a good view, they tell me that they want to get a refund or see my manager, assuming that I conned them. My job wasn't selling real estate, expensive homes and cottages with a pristine view over the lake.. I was merely tasked with making sure tourists weren't loitering on my dock.
The other problem of the job was was the illicit handling of my position.
Now where I live, there's a labor law, and this law inquires that workers must be legally offered every 3 work hours a 15-20 minute break. This can include lunch breaks, but wait for it.. I was given NONE of those. Not during summer shifts, nor opening or closing season.
I did ask around about this with my employer, and he said stoically, "What are you talking about (PsyCake)? You get a 15 minute break every time a ship leaves the dock."
Largely untrue. And he said this as if I wasn't doing my job.. I was at the company for at least a year.
I basically had to go through the play-by-play of how the dock is ACTUALLY managed. Boat A gets filled with people. Boat B shows up to be filled with people. Boat B is filled with people. Boat B leaves dock, as Boat A comes in to unload people.
The process for unloading and reloading a boat? Takes about 15 minutes.
I was not allowed to sit during the process or eat.
So my employer basically looked at me as if I had two heads, and eventually had HIS boss come down (I will call him Nepo-Manbaby, as his brother owned the company).
Nepo-Manbaby sidles up to me one day and comments, "So I heard, (PsyCake), that you filed a complaint.." Blah, blah, blah.. He went on to try repeating my employer's words, but I once again mentioned the labor law: every three hours, workers who are designated to manual labor are supposed to be offered a break; I even mentioned its reference in the employee handbook, as this was provided for every other position (even the people who manned the traffic gates so the herds of tourists wouldn't wander off the reservation like cattle were given them), and specifically stated that I was not getting the same treatment, implying that they were breaking a regional law.
    ..They complied with my request.
Since then, the company was bought out by another owner, they went ahead with some rebranding, and now THAT company is going out of business, or so I hear.
Seems petty, but I love that for them.

I have a school hair story
I dyed my hair neon colours a few times during school, neon orange and fuscia pink to be exact, and a few times teachers tried to convince me to redye it to a natural colour (my hair is greish brown btw) which didn't work (my mum dyed my hair fyi, so she was on board of me keeping it), and once the principle asked me "what kinda example do you think you're giving to younger kids?"
I thought I was giving a perfectly fine example, as I wasn't rambunctious or really acted out ever, just had bright hair.
Some time later I noticed some of the younger students also having dyed hair. Idk if that was my influence or a coincidence (probably the latter), but I count that as a win for me.

My youngest daughter Caitie, well her guy Nick won my heart when they were 4yrs old, his dad worked with my FIL. At company picnics my girls would go with my in laws and my mother in law would snap pics. She said Nick was so sweet and would be perfect for Caitie because they were both so quiet and shy. Sad to say my MIL never got to see them together but I think she had a hand in making it happen. My MIL died the day after they finished 10th grade. They started dating when they were 20 they are 24. Their birthdays are both in October he is 15 days older. Danielle and Austin who I mentioned in another comment are 27 and 30. Austin always said that he more likely then not would have been a friend to my oldest child Ryan if we hadn't lost him as a tiny baby. Ryan would have been weeks younger then Austin

My oldest daughter Danielle's fiancé Austin won me over by saying he loved her independence and strong will. That she wasn't just a pretty face but had a beautiful soul and heart of gold. He loved her loyalty to me and especially her loyalty to her baby sister. He loved the fact that she stood up for people, that she was so supportive of people especially strangers. He said it shocked him to know that the girl was totally different the what people had said about her. I replied with, she puts up a wall of being tough, that she isn't sensitive and most people see her as a bitch or a CU Next Tuesday. But my girl is a sweetheart, that she loves all creatures even snails and slugs. Hates to kill a bug or a spider. If she can trap them humanity she will. But cries if she has to kill them all but ants, she can't stand ants. I actually think he won my heart the minute we met when they walked in the door and he hugged me and called me mom. She was 15 and he was 17. They have been together ever since and got engaged in 2021, last year they bought a house.

More of a funny short story about my schools food. Our food was horrible bc we had a rule about not having anything unhealthy so they took even salt and pepper out of our school everything was bland flavorless or just downright gross a kid that sat with us at lunch thats been to jail before even said that the jail food was better than the schools food lmao so one day a kid started selling food to kids in the morning before the day started it was quite funny to me bc you can easily make your own food at home and bring it in but I guess ppl rather buy his food I guess it was good bc I never bought it myself

32:09 this story kind of reminded me of something. So I haven’t had the best beginning of my life but my siblings had it worse. Several years ago my mother got divorced from a man. I was never really told why. I quickly found out a while afterwords that man had abused and raped my older sister (abused the rest of my siblings but only raped the older one) my mother never told me but I heard her several times talking about it to my sister. I didn’t know how to react I suppose I felt guilty. Guilty for loving that man. That’s besides the point though, only until a few years later were we told despite me being the youngest my other older sister never even knew. My mom never did tell me how my aunt died. I found out by myself she had overdosed and had passed away. She still hasn’t really told us. My middle sister had brought a book home about a kid that overdosed and my father (not biological) had brought up the fact we know someone who passed from that. My middle sister who is kind of slow and doesn’t catch on that quick didn’t understand. I went “our aunt.” And my dad went “I didn’t know if y’all knew why she passed away.” I answered “I do. Mum never told us but the signs are obvious.” I know my mom has gone through things and that we were children but I would’ve been nice to tell us.

fun fact about Christian schools they all are actually catholic schools and thus focus more on money and appearances then teaching things closer to the actual religion. thus, you be correct about these schools and their bias. but also, as a Christian thank you for also adding a message that we all are not like most fake Christians so thank you dude also awesome job with narration and commentary.
