Nice one. Cheers Jerry. TIMPO Swoppets were my favourite toys, when I was between the ages of 4 and 8. Cowboys, Indians, Cavalry, Confederates. I had the Fort, the City, the Locomotive and Carriages Set, Covered Waggons, Stage Coach, Tee Pees, Cannon... And I still have them all.
The WW2 stuff didn't appeal to me at the time. However, this episode has reminded me that I was gifted a cheap knock off this set, Made by Cherileara. Oh dear, it was not very good.

The multiple colors technique is called OVERMOULDING. It's done by injecting different colored plastics on top of the other. It's very complex and because of costs, it's mostly forgotten. The Britains Deetail COMMANDOS and HOSPITAL CREW (and most Britains civilian figures) use this method. According to Roy Selwyn-Smith, it was like magic

Jerry, that’s a fantastic find as a child. I had the stagecoach and the cowboy town with different buildings the saloon the hotel. Ect the good thing about them they had actual guns that you could replace heads come off scarfs they were the cheaper version but they were a lot of fun. I didn’t know they made this World War II set. The artwork looks like some child has done it but it’s cool.😊

  • @likilikiki

    So cool.
When I was young I used to play with toy soldiers alot but really small ones, like 2cm tall (I believe it was 1/72 scale but not sure)
Late 70s early 80s in the Netherlands, my family and I used to go our caravan at a camping site during summer break and in a village close by there would be this bazaar every Tuesday.
They sold all kinds of stuff there and also alot of military gear and toys.
They sold these bags with a something like 300 toy soldiers and 2 or 3 vehicles inside like tanks and jeeps and airplanes like stuka's and spitfires.
Every year my dad bought me a couple of those bags and I ended up with HUGE armies hehe.
I had them all sorted by country like German, US, British and had them stored in plastic containers.
When I was around 12 my parents got divorced and we stopped going to the camping.
My dad ended up selling the place and that's how I lost it all.
Man I used to play for hours and hours with that stuff.

Wouldn't want to mix the coloured and regular soldiers together - but - I love the set, it would work as the next step on from the Beach Head Landing, almost part 2 of the story. I had one of the tents (without the door/opening) but it had a red cross roundel on it - worked well with the medical team covered in your earlier vid (I'm convinced my book holding figure was wearing a cross - making him a vicar - but I would bet against my memory). I like the set, but not the figures - that happened back in the day, but you made do. Most of my 'play sets' were toilet rolls and empty cartons. Imagination is the king of joy.

What struck me was the horrible shirt and tie the poor child on the box had to wear, 70s fashion was disgusting, my mum used to dress me in a similar fashion, I have had a phobia of brightly coloured clothes ever since. LOL 😁

When i was a kid my parents were heavy smokers and used boxes of those matchsticks to light their ciggies and once used made ideal artillery ammunition. An endless supply!Friendly tip tho folks don’t smoke!🪖🪖🪖
