This is the truck the US actually needs right now - not $100,000 luxo edition behemoths that maybe see dirt once or twice before they get traded in.
If this was on the market, I would have bought this yesterday. Plus it would really help bring a little sanity to the used car market - paying $10,000 for a 250K rusted out 15-year old Tacoma is insanity.

I love how a lot of these "revolutionary" features are just old tech that the automobile industry abandoned because they knew they could charge more for fancier gizmos. LOL

You must also be old, like me. :) Seems this is a lesson you learn later in life. We stopped buying new cars about 25 years ago. Now new cars cost more than houses we've owned. That's insane. We just picked up a 2014 Jeep that only had 64k miles on it. It's manual transmission, manual windows, manual door locks, etc. We love it. Having spent $350 for a window regulator and driving around for 2 weeks with a window that wouldn't roll up, simple can be better. I appreciate convenience and the amenities but, when they go bad they are significantly inconvenient and very costly.

If we can get this truck in America with 4x4 for sub 18k it will change the market. We're currently willing to pay 8-12k for a used 1996 truck that's imported of the same size and ability but to be able to buy one new for a few thousand more. It's going to be a no brainer for most. I can't speak for everyone but I know the majority of us are unwilling/uncapable of purchasing these new (luxury) 80k trucks when we can barely afford to live. We need a truck like this and I'll definitely join the list to get one when/if it becomes available here.

Getting bigger is just a way for these companies to escape regulation. It's more profitable to sell a few, high market things, than to sell many low market things. The other thing is subscriptions and add-ons. Our current economic model in the US will not allow these kinds of trucks into the market, for no less than $30k.

This is the exact thing im looking for. We say we want smaller more affordable more durable trucks. Ford did the mavrick and i think it was a big step for affordbaility but its a unibody thats more for errands. Thid truck you hage that steel bed you can really really do somd serious work without aprrying about it. Keitrucks people were thinking are closer to what we need and this truck toyota seems to be combining like a keitruck back but a more usual engine in an engine bay infront of the cab type design. I think this is a huge saftey improvement and it migbt be what we need to get that kind of a style road legal in usa. Having better powerplants compared to keitrucks too is big. Being able to buy them brand new is important and right now you cant buy keitrucks new. I want the more durable steel bed i think that ultra durable bed is a super big deal. You habe to be able to beat it up for 30 years and it should still be going. The single cab is more affordable and easier to replace with a couple buddies if need be and i like that design for a utility truck. Affordable tires. And as well as having a range of gasoline, diesel. Hybrids, and electric all at the same time is a big deal too. A platform with options to suit different peoples needs is big. I like.the diesel but someone who drives less will like the electric and people inbetween will like the gasoline motor. So its good to see that. Body on frame is also keystone feature for me in a truck. To have a truck like this thats body on frame is good. If they cost 10k or like 15k for the diesel or something like that, it would be crazy esspecially if we could finally get them in usa. The proble. Is toyota tundra and tacoma are big and expensive. Theyre nice usa likes them i like them but i also like innovative ideas like this for a lot of the work load. A truck like this is grsat for moving around my motorcycles, pickup up the poting soils, rocks etc. A more durable bed for that junk work keeps the nicer more expensive trucks in good shape longer. I think this type of design is a little safer than the keitruck design as well. I think if we dont allow these on american roads we must revolt like george washington intended. Ford is supposed to have something like this Under the mavrick for real. This is what we wanted. Thisnis right down the alley of what many americans want. This truck can truely overtake the legendary 90s tacomas. Very smart kind of truck. An actual small and extrae extra durable. You get a super durable bed compared to aluminum tin can thickness sheet metal which is what i want. Diesel as an option is dope. Thats what i would get personally. I like these trucks so much compared to the great tacomas and ford rangers i think theyre durabikity will lend them well to bysiness aspects too where i could buy a fleet and rent then out locally stuff like that. Its very gard for poorer people to get into these kinds of busiensses when each truck costs 70k and no one wants to pay the daily rental cost on there day worth of a fraction of that. You gey super dope units like this rolling off the lot for 10k 15k 19k ornwhat have you, and its a game changer

@@TheAnnoyingBoss - The bed sides that fold down or can be removed easily to make a flat bed is a JDM truck feature. Ditto for the tie down stakes on the top rail outside of the bed sides. Perhaps the biggest JDM truck feature is the bed above the wheels so the wheel wells don't eat up cargo space and make it difficult to carry fragile sheet goods such as drywall without cracking it down the middle. I've owned and used US trucks for decades and now I own a Hijet Japanese mini truck. From my perspective, US trucks are made to look big and tough while Japanese trucks are made to be practical and useful so they can do serious work, reliably. In the unlikely event that Toyota can sell a base model 4WD Hilux Champ in the US for $15,000, they will OWN the new truck market within a year, but I'm fairly sure they'd prefer to continue selling us $40,000+ Tacomas and Tundras.

You are certainly correct. People in the USA are begging for just such a vehicle. Currently, in the USA mini-truck market, there are EXACTLY zero such vehicles. I drive a 1985 Toyota 4 x 4 single cab pick up. The neighbor needs a load of topsoil for his garden? We drive over to the depot and the loader just dumps it in the back. Most other people use a trailer. Mine is suffering from age related cancer and the lift gate fell off this last summer. The bed is nearly totally rusted out, but, oddly, no rust at all on the cab. At 805,456 miles (1,296,255 km),the engine and transmission have both been rebuilt once. A little sloppy on fuel economy (15 mpg or 6.4 kpl), but still more economical to drive than nearly anything else on the market (reliability adds up), Toyota will bring the same reliability to the Champ, if it ever gets here..... I want the hybrid 4WD model and I want FOUR WHEEL DRIVE (with a manual transfer case), not AWD.

There's so many applications I could use something like this where I don't need to be able to haul an entire house. This would be a life saver for quick trips to the feed store.

GREAT machine. LOVE the engineering. My gift to Toyota is: the fold down rear tailgate blocks the lights when in the down position. This is actually an unnecessary danger for drivers parked at the side of the road doing delivery as it blocks the hazards. Simple solution: CUT OUT rectangles in the tailgate that show the lights when folded down. Less steel in the stamping = savings as a bonus. You are welcome.

somebody noticed that people in the US have been buying up all the mini Japanese trucks they can get their hands on. These trucks are much more usefull and economical than US trucks. Honda makes a very nice 4x4 mini. Very much a bread and butter work truck in Japan and other East Aisia countries.

  • @Darthreloy
    @Darthreloy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The US used to have lots of mini trucks in the 80s. You can blame your libtard EPA for making rules that literally made it too hard to sell them here. Now we get mid size or bigger only. In town, bed loading, nothing can outwork those little trucks. Try loading a bunch of bags of concrete in a tall bed, now in a really short bed where you can literally do it over the side. No comparison for hand work. Mini's are cheap and easy to fix, easy on gas, but not a racer or loaded with frills. How shit is it that we have to buy Kei trucks only after they are 25 years old, and most recently the federal gov is de-registering mini trucks, making them even harder yet to own. They dont really give a fuck about emissions or you.

The Toyota Hilux Champ will NOT make it to the USA, which really sucks for those of us who are wanting a base pickup with a 6’-8’ bed and 4WD.
A/C is needed in most areas, and cruise control is nice too, but we Don’t need power windows, locks, navigation systems, power seats, lane centering, etc.
Most people today use their pickups for hauling groceries from Costco, or soccer balls. They want all the creature comforts, so if they break a nail, they can get to the nail salons in their plushy pickups.
For the rest of us, we USE our pickups for WORK.
Our 11 Ford Ranger is a XLT, so yeah it has cruise control, and A/C. Yes it has power windows, locks, ABS, etc.
It’s a super cab and yes that’s where we store chains, ropes, jumper cables etc.
It has a 6’ bed and we use the truck mainly for work around our property.
We bought it used with only 20K miles. I would have preferred it to be a XL trim with vinyl flooring, manual windows and locks. It would have saved us money, but we bought it for $4K less than KBB.
We’ve owned it since 19 and have put only 15K miles on it in almost 5 years.
Even if that new $10K Toyota pickup came to America and was offered in a 4WD with a 6’ - 8’ bed, as a base pickup, the GREEDY car dealerships would tack on an additional $5K - $15K markup, so they can afford a better Bentley or Speedboat and laugh at how much money they ripped off their customers for.
