    American Express Cobalt is probably the best option available in Canada when it comes to points and hotel travel reward options

      Agreed, for travel I love the cobalt or the aeroplan reserve

      What’s the best card if you don’t travel? Would booking hotels in Canada gain you travel bonuses?

    • @merc7paul
      @merc7paul 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MoneyWithMark69 aeroplan reserve is annoying because the lounge access is only maple leaf lounges and you have to pay for priority pass/plaza premium lounges per visit, the equivalent cards by TD and CIBC (Visa Infinite Privielege) same $599 annual fee and similar sign up bonuses but also 6 visits to dragonpass lounge visits on top of air canada lounges, I would check those cards out if you enjoy the reserve. I've had the reserve and the TD VIP cards.

    I was surprised how much my family of 4 gets back each month with the Cobolt card from AMEX. Definitely my goto. Now, it just needs lounge access and then its a super power card 😂

    • @Volfas
      @Volfas 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That would be overkill lol. A lot of ppl get plat for insurances and lounge access. I just wish it had no fx fee.

      @MoneyWithMark69  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ya no fx fee would be incredible! I use the Wealthsimple cash card to avoid fx fees. Saved $900 on my Mexico accomodations this year!

    I like the canadian tire world elite triangle mastercard. Cashback is in canadian tire money, but I do lots of shopping at canadian tire and with this card I get 4% back at canadian tire/sport check/mark’s work warehouse, 3% at grocery stores (no costco/no walmart) and 1% on everything else (like costco/walmart). Another great perk is free membership to the canadian tire roadside assistance gold plan that is normally $100 per year. For as long as you have this card your membership will renew, for free, every year. All this for no fee credit card. EXCELLENT!

    • @MoneyWithMark69
      @MoneyWithMark69  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh interesting I haven't looked into that one much! Is the 3% cashback you get only available to spend at Canadian tire? OR can you use that cashback to pay off your credit card too?

    • @imkriswithak1135
      @imkriswithak1135 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You cant use cashback to pay your credit card, but the canadian tire money can also be used at sport check, marks work warehouse, and a few others. Also you can use this card to pay utility bills and get 1% cashback on those. It adds up quite quickly. I just wish it was actual money 😂

    i have a problem with neo financial. maybe it's because i'm only looking at credit karma to check my credit history, but what i'm experiencing is that they don't update my credit statement that often.
    now that made me curious on that amex card. i just got approved for the cibc aeroplan visa card that doesn't have the annual fee one simply because amex rejected my application for the cobalt card. it's about a very low credit limit on my existing card, but that's another story
    koho. never heard of it before
    i'll take a look at these cards later

    • @MoneyWithMark69
      @MoneyWithMark69  ปีที่แล้ว

      If there's no action on your card they won't sent reports to the agencies. Also credit karma is an unreliable way to check your score. Use Equifax or TransUnion

    Mark, so how long have you used these top 3 cards? Which ones are you still using them? Have you gotten your family members to use them aswell? especially your parents?

    • @MoneyWithMark69
      @MoneyWithMark69  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've used them all for 3-5 years now. And my wife uses KOHO with our joint account. I still use all of them - just for different purposes. KOHO is my day to day spending. I use wealthsimple for high interest savings account and for when I travel bc no FX fees. And I use neo financial for my mortgage & spending at places that give a high cash back

    Love these reviews! Do you have thoughts on credits cards offering points for groceries vs shopping at various partner stores like Neo? I’m trying to compare which gives best value - points for getting food or needing to shop with Neo’s partners. What are your thoughts?

    • @MoneyWithMark69
      @MoneyWithMark69  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Neo's partners will offer way more than you can get in points with grocery store cards. Neo's partners range from 2 - 8% cash back where as earning something like PC points on a credit card will only get you like 0.5% in cash back equivalent value

    As someone on ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program) KOHO is my go to for things I don't want to pay off
    Unfortunately, gotta stay with RBC because of RDSP...but because I have that and another cc (avion) I don't pay 4.00 monthly fee

    Second comment! Anyways, since world elite mastercards here in canada have a minimum salary of 80k, i have to resort to alternatives. i’m forcing myself to travel since i only do work sleep work sleep, so i want to enjoy life to the fullest. I have amex cobalt currently. Bmo eclipse visa infinite is my next goal and once i get to US credit cards, chase aeroplan. I also have amex aeroplan reserve, but that’s a keeper card for me except if i want to purchase air canada flights

      @@ejhaneine3168 my bad, didn't see these replies. many restaurants and retail stores in BC do not take AMEX. also, the biggest grocery store company, Loblaws, doesn't take AMEX. that includes superstore, no frills, T&T etc. Costco doesn't even take AMEX. So to get the most out of your AMEX Cobalt card in BC, you'll have to eat at restaurants that do take AMEX and dining out regularly is super expensive as on top of that you have your regular grocery spending.
