Thanks for this video; i was able to diagnose that my fuel pump was bad withouth having to pay a pro shop to tell me it was bad for $150. After a little research it cost me less than $100 to replace by myself.
well that is possible but you can check that with starting fluid when it does it spray some in the airbox if it starts then its fuel related, if it dont start then id check spark
Sounds like either a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump, a vehicle can still somewhat run with a bad fuel pump so id say its one or the other, if you take the fuel filter off and try to blow through it to see , it should blow about the same as blowing in a straw , hope that helps
If the pressure is low, remove the vaccum hose to the regulator and see if the pressure rises. If so the pump is bad. EBAY has a tester Uactivate AES# 07-80. It costs $200.00. Also get the AES Line SPI Smart BOB #200.00. Also get the Power Probe IV- #40.00
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it has ran great ever since I've got it! Never died, leaked or not started up. Today I've been driving it around and nothing weird happened, not even a check engine light. When I got back home I went back out to move it and it won't completely turn over. I stopped trying to start it after I jumped it and it didn't work because I don't want to flood it and it smells of gas. Could my fuel pump ruin that quickly in 10 minutes to where my car won't start up? I have also never had any sputtering issues or issues with it not working.

SOmetimes my Suzuki Alto will just quit running (esp. when it's a hot day). I get the whirring sound when I turn the key, it would start but sputter (for a few seconds) and then quit again. If it is sputtering, giving it gas makes things worse. Does that sound like a bad fuel pump?
hey guys looking for a hand I got a Chevy Tahoe 1998 everytime I go to crank it it wont crank and I have to add gas to the carburetor and at a fire right off and running no problem when I turned it off and let it sit about 15 minutes I got to do the same thing again if I take it within that 15.415 minutes in a little bit still hold this pressure on it so I guess that's losing the pressure in that first 15 minutes where do I go to find my problem

That's not a good way to find out if your fuel pump has failed. My pump still made noise, but had failed. I had a bad, excessive cranking issue on my '97 Nissan Maxima SE. One day it failed to start. I had a spark, and the starter was attempting to turn the engine over. And even sometimes the car would start (with and empty sound in the engine) then immediately die, or struggle for a while. HOW TO TEST FUEL PUMP? well if you're a broke, young kid like me, and don't want to spend money for a gauge. Just disconnect a fuel hose closes to the firewall. Put your finger over the hose, and have a friend turn the key to the "on" position, but don't try to start it. When it's in this position the fuel pump is supposed to engage, and you should feel pressure on your on finger, that's gasoline priming the lines, and everything is good. Don't forget to check the fuses, too. This is how I found out that my fuel pressure was gone. Also another thing to check is if your car has a CamShaft Position Sensor like mine does. If that sensor is bad it wouldn't send a signal to the fuel pump to engage when the key is in the "on" position.

Its the start of a bad fuel pump that trick is great to get you back home or to a parts store soon it will just quit. Unless a loose connection which can be very bad

You more than likely have a weak fuel pump and or clogged fuel filter. When you turn the key 3 or 4 times you're building up the fuel pressure in the lines

That is not necessarily true. It could be a number of things. Anything from a bad fuel pump, to a bad ECU to a bad ECU relay. What you are determining here is your not getting adequate fuel pressure.

Yes a pump can still come on and not make enough pressure, no pulse to injectors a clogged filter and many other things but you still need to start with the basic does the fuel pump kick on.

I would check and see if you are getting power to the fuel pump next. If it turns on but nothing at other end you can still have a bad pump. Check fuel pressure.

Check fuel pressure. Sometimes the "new ones" aren't calibrated correctly. Random numbers but say it needs 12 pounds of fuel pressure and it's only calibrated to 11.93 it won't turn in. Some depends on the car. Maybe you connected the sending and return lines backwards?
+kevinnnnn95 I checked the pressure it was barely even reading when I went to crank it I believe the highest it went up to was 5 and I connected the gauge to the fuel rail but what I don't understand is my fuel pressure regulator is on top of the fuel rail and when I took the regulator off and turned the key fuel was coming out like a water fountain so I'm assuming it's the injectors or the fuel rail ?????
Victor Tovar TBI stands for Throttle Body Injection, and yes it has 2 injectors both visable in the video. I suggest you buy a clue, and not the board game Professor Plum!
Charlie first off if you dont hear the pump prime then it points you in a pump not working direction, if you hear the pump prime and nothing then you can check the pulse to the injectors or check to see if your getting fire
My 2004 Nissan murano turns on but then seconds later turns off by itself. i just replaced the alternator. so I'm trying to find out if its the fuel pump or something else thats the problem. any info is great help. thanks

HOW TO TEST FUEL PUMP?
well if you're a broke, young kid like me, and don't want to spend money for a gauge. Just disconnect a fuel hose closes to the firewall.
Put your finger over the hose, and have a friend turn the key to the "on" position, but don't try to start it.
When it's in this position the fuel pump is supposed to engage, and you should feel pressure on your on finger, that's gasoline priming the lines, and everything is good.
Don't forget to check the fuses, too.
This is how I found out that my fuel pressure was gone.
Also another thing to check is if your car has a CamShaft Position Sensor like mine does.

Charlie first off if you dont hear the pump prime then it points you in a pump not working direction, if you hear the pump prime and nothing then you can check the pulse to the injectors or check to see if your getting fire

My 2004 Nissan murano turns on but then seconds later turns off by itself. i just replaced the alternator. so I'm trying to find out if its the fuel pump or something else thats the problem. any info is great help. thanks
if I have change my fuel filter a d fuel pump and my truck ran good the night before but won't start now what could it be
