      He actually messes up at the 3:05 mark... hits the cymbal AND THERE IS NO SOUND. Hits it like a second later and it crashes nicely. Playing to a soundtrack.

      Yes they are . As gene simmons once said I never understood why they never partied and why women weren't always in their rooms. Well while kiss was getting laid Rush was practicing. And are one and if not the tightest band in the world.

      Because Rush did have wives when they started out i thought. that could be a reason. Geddy did say they did alot of pot tho. And those women rockstars smash didnt see talent. They saw MONEY.

      +Nick Korte because no one likes complicated musicians where as the simple progression catchy songs get more attention. That's just how it works now...no one really give a shit for complicated stuff. Make something simple and catchy and have a unique image and everybody well jump on your nuts lolz

      +Maya Ash I know they are. I'm replying to the other guys comment about How Kiss got laid more than Rush. Simple because Kiss is just more catchy simple and unique image that's just how it works in today's music you know? Who get laid more the complicated jazz musicians with no image or uniqueness or the rock band who has a unique image and creates simple catchy songs?

      Rush's music is technically among the best... in the world of rock. But that's just it. If you only listen to rock, you will be easily impressed. To compare them to Mozart and Beethoven is just not accurate, and I'm sure Rush would agree.

      Ron Baran Yup, but that's only because he's in the company of two other world-class musicians who frequently rank in top 10's of best bass players and drummers ever. I can't think of any other band with the same incredible musical prowess as this trio. I think the odds are one in a million for three people with this level of talent to meet each other and start a band.

      Ron Baran I did say two OTHER world-class musicians. Alex's playing is nothing short of marvelous; this song and La Villa Strangiato are excellent examples of that. He also played that fantastic guitar solo on Porcupine Tree's "Anesthetize".
      Alex Gittins The Who and Led Zeppelin are also great examples of rock bands consisting of only really talented musicians (two of my favorites), but I can't see them nailing something as complex as YYZ live.

    Can't get enough of the bass groove 2min in. That little drop down back to his groove - right after the pinch harmonics at the end of his 3rd solo (2:14). Freakin brilliant. Adds so much momentum. Little touches like that throughout that blow my mind.

      I think what's happening is that they're actually playing, but the live sound is muted and the album track is overlayed on the video. Example: at 3:06, Neil Peart clearly hits the cymbal on his right (our left) but no sound is heard.

    Best band of all time. They came up with so many complex beats and patterns and grooves. They combined all kinds of music together.. No one else sounds like Rush.. at all.. not even close. I Usually say stuff like.... Geddy was the best basist ever or Neil was the best drummer ever... But Alex is the best guitar player ever.... And im talking about over my favorite guitar player of all time , Randy Rhoads. I love when i was just getting into Rush... i had to listen to a song like 100 times to finally understand the beat and how they had so many different parts to a song... making the song a story.. taking your mind of a journey of thoughts and feelings... haha .

    So many comments saying that one of these guys or two of these guys or all three of these guys are underrated or didn’t get the credit they deserve. I don’t know who people hang out with but everyone I know say these guys on list of top musicians. They may not have got the radio play as much as people think they deserve but that’s because they didn’t make music that was “radio friendly.”

    I love Rush, they are my all time favorite band, comprised of 3 of the best musicians of all time. That being said, I am certain the music I am hearing in this vid is the original recording. There was even one cymbal crash that Neil did in the vid that you couldn't hear on the audio. Every single note, every nuance, every tone, every harmonic, even the feedback was spot on exact to the original recording. There is no way they could replicate every single thing so perfectly. I'm sure they were playing the song, but I'm sure what we were hearing was the original recording. Anyone with me on this?

    • @user-qe2jg6lm4z
      @user-qe2jg6lm4z 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. When Geddy's synth parts dominate, the video only shows Neil drumming. Only after the synth part does the camera cut back to Geddy, and he only has his bass, synths don't seem to be there.

    RUSH always placed their expert musicianship above all else. That's what sold their albums. Not tight pants, big hair, cheesy love ballads... They were (ARE) FN musicians. Experts at their craft. Peart is up there with Bonham and Buddy Rich. Geddys bass isn't a support instrument, part of the rhythm section.. NO he plays that MFer hard enough to make Flea smile. And Alex has to be the most underrated guitarist ever. He can sound like Santana, Page, Gilmour and Van Halen all in the same song but more importantly he has his own sound that is as clean as it gets.
    RUSH ROCKS.

    These three complete virtuoso's are too easy to fall in love with. I was playing along with their songs from the first album foward (Well, after falling in love everything they wrote and played on the All the World's a Stage live album). True Rush fans probably have a difficult time naming one song that isn't appealing in some way shape or form (often appealing in many ways). From a guitarist's standpoint (as I am) Alex has always been one of the most creative writers for the instrument but Rush fans know all of this. In this particular song and many others the thing that really stands out is that Alex and Geddy do their expected magical things at the highest level of creativity and technique but Neil doesn't sound like he is playing variations as you listen along....Neil somehow sounds like he's expressing three songs (or more)...not just one (or is it just me?). Thanks again Rush! They've always been so awesome!
