    50/50 acetone &trany fluid works great for rusty stuff!! I know a few people that have dumped ajax down the cylinders and spun it over for a period to scuff the cylinders and rings to get the motor to quit smoking, an old car lot trick!! Any who Merry Christmas and Happy New year, preciate ya!!🎅🎅

    Seems like they're might be a bit of rust at the top of a couple of cylinders you can't see from botfom side, or a bent push rod... With the amount of sludge and water in the pan collecting for however long its been sitting would suggest some moisture got in a couple cylinders

I enjoy your monologue Ken because your brain works like this Missouri boy’s brain works-slowly, but surely the proper conclusion is always reached, or, ya know, realized. 😂😂✌🏻 ps...my “green courage-juice” recipe consists of spinach, water, ice if you like it cooler, peaches (any fruit will suffice) Greek yogurt and a dash of Cayenne-yummy!

    Hey Ken! Just watched the video and was doing something that I ain’t so good at........”thinking”🤔........this here is what I thunk up; that stuck valve being a “intake” and in a kinda corner location to all the rest, iffin that was the lowest corner when she was stored, maybe outside, could be that’s how the water got inside the crankcase. Well ring gaps usually ain’t situated in a location where all the water would drain down.......so..... it just may be that you have a build up of rust near TDC on that piston now I said “near”. If I waz you, I think I’d put me some more “juice loose” in that cylinder and work her up and down/back and forth and see if them rings would scrape that rust out of that cylinder. Also; I might try and stick some kinda measuring device down that plug hole and see iffin that piston stops at the same spot on both sides of the crank swing........OH! YEAH!! You done got the pan off already......what a dummy I am!
    Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!,

    I'd be tempted to simply look down the spark plug holes with a flex-cam to see if someone dropped a nut or something into the cylinder. Don't laugh, Nick over at Nick's Garage in Montreal opened up a 440 only to find a nut embedded in a piston. The engine was actually running prior to his taking it apart but he said it made a funny noise which prompted the tear down. Go figure! lol. In his case they figured it may have entered the cylinder through the intake but with an engine which has been laying around, who knows what has taken place.
    Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  • @Brock_Landers
    @Brock_Landers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm sure you already know this, but I would remove all of the spark plugs and squirt some transmission fluid down all of the cylinders before you work the engine back and forth again. What you're dealing with is most likely some water that got down into the engine at some point and rusted the top of some of the cylinders and the rings don't want to move past it. Rust can form just by the engine sitting in a damp place, or even condensation can cause rust inside of an engine. I've definitely seen it before many times. I'm sure you know this already, but it never hurts to hear it from an outside perspective. I will say that rotating assembly looks CLEAN as heck. There must not have been enough oil in the pan for the crank to have been sitting in it.

      @@1963impala2drWaylonWire Sorry buddy, I saw the most recent comment was only 22 hours old and I figured it was the most recently uploaded vidya. I realize that you have alot more experience than I do, I've owned 62 cars in my lifetime and I'm only 36, but I've turned a wrench on every single one. You're exactly the same way that I am in the way that you like to help people as much as you can, so while I knew that you already knew what I was talking about, it's always good to have an outside perspective on things. Sometimes the most obvious thing to do isn't always the first thing that comes to mind. Like with the stuck valve, I posted a comment to spray the stem with penetrating oil and work it back and forth with a small pry bar, but you had already beaten me to it. Sometimes I'm just better off to wait until the end of the video to post a comment or suggestion. Sometimes I'm just too helpful for my own good! I watch MANY different channels from fishing, to cars, to antique cars, to junk dealers, to ships, to war stories, to everything else that comes to mind. I'm a very mechanically inclined dude, like you, but I'm also a very open minded person. Merry Christmas to you and yours buddy!

    Some moisture could have gotten into the cylinders and now from where they were set for so long, there's a little rust ring in one place on a cylinder wall that you haven't broken through yet. Did you pour trans fluid or some other lubricant in all the spark plug hole? If not do that and keep working at and it should break free. But you probably know that. So why bother telling you? I'm one of those keyboard mechanics with practical experience. LOL! Good luck and Merry Christmas!

    I respect your “do no harm” methodical approach. You got me thinking whats binding. It’s easy to apply 30 psi air through the sparky hole and listen for the rush. Also look at the fuel pump drive for binding. I wish we could see behind the timing cover & check her teeth and chain.

  • @JohnyTopaz
    @JohnyTopaz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Of course you have this going by now, but one thing that could be done in this situation would be to use an automotive camera to look down the spark plug holes while the engine is being turned (two man job) or when the engine is against that sticky spot. Doing so could highlight some rust on the cylinder walls, a bent valve or one that doesn’t close fully, or even if there is the dreaded foreign body in the cylinder. I picked one up for pretty cheap not too long ago. Just a thought for others. Always enjoy your videos, Ken!

    My friend you have a weather seized motor there the top part of one of those cylinders that was probably open to the air because of the valve position has a rust film. You should pull the heads and properly clean that rust or you're going to have an unhappy cylinder and rings. The symptoms a bad motor rotating part of the way and then binding are very typical.

    It's good that you didn't try to crank it because there is a split pin missing from the rocker shaft .if the little cap comes out,you lose oil pressure to the rockers .instant wear to the shafts. I got all of my rocker shafts hard chromed,which was then ground to size. This stops them wearing out too soon. Especially if the engine is revved while cold. The hemi rocker gear is lubed each 1/2 turn of the cam. not the greatest idea but it worked ok for my engines. heres my 354 T on the salt years ago. www.dlra.org.au/grtrip98.htm

    The stuck valve most likely let moisture in and rusted from the top of the piston up won’t see under the pan gotta pull heads worse case is it scored the cylinder walls cause of rust and would have to be honed but could be alittle surface rust and break free

    Obviously it has a rusty cyl. ,probably on that cyl. that had the valve open ,I noticed it was quite near the Exhaust Manif. outlet, so likely had moist air getting in through the open exhaust valve. Pull that Head, and turn that piston down to bottom D.C.and simply Hone the rust off the cyl. clean it, oil it up replace the head and then she'll probably run. It seems as though you are trying to do it up on a shoe lace budget (no offence) and also perhaps the rings will free up etc. good luck ! They are amazing old motors !

    Merry Christmas to you Good Neighbor! Im gonna go out on a limb here and say you might have a stuck lifter or two. That can cause an old engine to hang up in a spot. Just like stickin a stob in there to stop it turning. Or just enough gunk or rust or even a mouse nest can do just that.Hey I live here in Sparta Mo and come from a family of machinist"mechanics and such. And been messing with old engines and equipment since I was a shorty. Im 53yrs old myself. Yeah I got a 235 six in a 61 C-30 Apache 1ton that has a head problem. Dumping coolant into the oil yech!! The head was replaced by the ( late) previous owner and. It was pulled off of a engine that had been layin for years out side in the Missouri weather.I suspect it has cracked by the central oil galley and coolant passage in the middle of the head. Doesn't overheat or back pressures the cooling system. Nor does it super heat the coolant. Holds good oil pressure of 30psi warmed up and 35 to 40 psi when its cold at start up.The previous owner was a friend of mines dad and been a friend of the family for years. I grew up around this old truck and bought it from the family when the old feller passed away. It has a 96in wide by 10ft long iron dump bed on it. Im the 3rd owner of it .The previous 2 owners passed away from old age . First owner passed in 1977 and Pops passed in 2016. So when Im gone it will go to one of my kids or back to the family it came from. I have a 1976 Plymouth Volare wagon thats my daily driver and one of them KIA Souls for my other running arounds stuff. The Volare is a near rust free car from Altus Oklahoma. I have worked on heavy equipment and big trucks of all kinds and drove truck for 34yrs . 3.75 million miles driven.Im retired from driving but got 5 trucks and drivers working for me at a freinds company. Keeps the bills paid and such. Got a big Duramax chevy to drag stuff with. And haul with too. I have a old 65 Barracuda that I fart around with. Got a bunch old junk /Iron Myself to . A guy just cant seem to have enough junk.Love the videos and keep on messing with that Hemi . You will get it going.

    I have never seen a motor like that hemi you have ,I know you will get it running you know them motor's I'm more the Ford motor's 289s, 302s, 390s and the old boat anchor 360s I bought that ran but when I got it here at the shop the valve covers had so many rust holes in them I decided to put that motor off to the side for next year project. No oil circulation and bad oil pressure in fact no oil pressure hahaha in some baskets you have good apples an the other just rotten as many as you can see I'll fix it next year

    Now, we All Know, that you`ll know, you love a Hemi, and the lord knows we all love them too, but, being a distant cousin way over In Englandshire`ish, back in the 1960`s, Daimler made a baby 2 1/2 litre Hemi for its posh Jaguar bodied Daimler cars, even bigger posher Daimler Cars, but a sweet little fibre glass bodied sports car called a SP 250 or a Daimler dart, even our Police had them back at the time... To us old / younger Brits more used to tiny side valve cars and little over head valved engined cars, the sound of a little hemi being driven hard chasing speeders or other law breakers was such a nice sound to hear..... I just hope you can show us the sound of its bigger brothers sound....OH, bye the bye, dam clever Idea of using a spring spreader to lift the stuck valves...One Idea I get to remember.. thanks
