People do realise that until this year with Inside Out 2 and Moana 2, neither Disney nor Pixar have made a sequel since 2019 right? That was 5 YEARS AGO! And in that time, most of their movies haven’t exactly been great. Now I’m not defending bad or mediocre sequels, but it is kind of ironic that people are always complaining about the fact that there needs to be more original movies, yet Disney and Pixar have only done original movies between 2020 and 2023 and MOST of them haven’t done that well or been praised by audiences. But you’re right pal, sequels should do what Across the Spider-Verse, Toy Story 3, The Last Wish and How to Train Your Dragon 2+3 did- expanding the world of the first movie, building the story, dealing with serious and mature themes and evolving the characters. For Moana 2, so far it’s looking pretty good. For Incredibles 3, I think most people are just happy they don’t have to wait 14 years for a third movie. And for Toy Story 5, I do understand where people are coming from. But I think it’s been said by Tom Hanks or Tim Allen that they would only return if the story was good or something like that. And since they are returning, maybe there’s a chance that it could turn out good. They have been in the movie business for a long time so they most likely have experience with this sort of thing. So it MIGHT work out but who knows. This is just my opinion btw.
I honestly think they're only making Toy Story 5 because of that hugely controversial ending in the fourth film. 😅😅😅 Also, sequels are much safer bets than creating original stories. You saw how people reacted to Wish, right?
