Third of four parts about this hugely influential Gospel legend. Whether it be Gospel, Blues or Rock & Roll, Sister Rosetta was way up there with the best.
How cruel and ignorant we were then! Imagine not letting people stay in the hotel, not letting them drink from the water fountains or eat in the restaurants. How shameful! They had to sneak food to her on the bus. I hope we never forget these dark lessons from our past. As a white man, I am ashamed of what my predecessors did to my African brothers and sisters. Let's all move forward with love and forgiveness and do important work to stamp out racism in all forms and manners! What a talented group of women! Wish I could have seen them live.
We need to get OVER the bad science of "race" for there is but one race and that is composed of all humanity. What appears to our puny eyes to be "race" is only the differential distribution of alleles due to environmental selection pressures from thousands of years ago before humans had world wide travel. Even in our mythos, those who believe in the Bible do not teach that God made separate creations of "white" Adam n'Eve "yellow" "red" "black" "brown" etc. The first primordial parents of mythos were ONE.

Me too. My mother was a pianist. Once a month we drove an 1.5 hrs to the black church in indy..cap city. After church,Mom would get up front and jam out with Lamar, their pianist. I was the only one listening in the empty church. I realized..I felt different during service being the only white faces in audience..even though no one treated me differently. @@randybeard6040 I'm a white woman and I can tell you that this woman stirs my soul like no other. God bless her because she brought something to this earth that the Lord wanted. All people no matter the race or color can choose to be the Children of God. Let's hope the dream keeps on going on that Heavenly train and we all take a lesson from this woman. We should celebrate the gift this woman was given and not praise those that stole the music and lyrics of those that were the pioneers of American gospel music. We need to praise those pioneers of American music. We need to remember the legacy of those musicians that sang gospel music and the blues and played musical instruments and sometimes did both. We need to remember the truth, those musicians were the first and the best. We should not be praising the thieves that stole the original music of African American musicians during the birth of the Blues and Gospel music. We have a responsibility to know and share the truth. Was it not said by a great preacher that the truth shall set us free? This woman is finally being recognized for her gift but she did not receive that recognition while alive. We must remember what the Bible says and that is those that are first shall be last and those that were last will be first in Heaven. This woman will be wearing a crown in Heaven. She will be recognized by Jesus for her gift of music and she will sing for the Lord. Music is a powerful gift, given by God to lift the spirits of the downtrodden on Earth. She didn't hide her light while alive but others chose to ignore her light. Her light will not be hidden in Heaven. I hope one day on earth all will get the recognition they deserve and the true history of music will be known. We that know the truth have a responsibility to teach others the real history of all music and especially gospel music so credit is given where credit is due. The people that were hurting her I have nothing for them.

Rap sucks and has denigrated all music.
I didn't know of her, but she was good !
This is amazing.
