Kristin is such a genius that sometimes its easy to overlook what a sonic contribution Tanya made to the Muses. She really shines here. What a combination they were!

Every time I listen to any part of it The Real Ramona climbs up another notch on my ladder of Musical brilliance. I only regret how long it took for me to discover Throwing Muses.

Wow, I discovered Belly in 1995 and bought a Throwing Muses CD. I started down the TH-cam rabbit hole tonight and found myself here. Just absolutely amazing music with a sound unlike any other.

I got this album at a used CD store in San Antonio in the mid 90s. I then took it on a road trip to visit my brother in St Louis. My carmates didn’t quite know what to think. This album and song rock!

Dave Narcizo was the BEST drummer. Seeing him play live always blew me away.

Same. First time I saw them live, I decided he was my favorite drummer.

Him and Leslie Langston were the backbone that let Kristen walk. Tonya was ok I guess.

I think if i had to pick one and only one group to listen to ever again, it would be TM. 20 years of listening to them and I still get goosebumps. Killer.

they are geniuses. both. kristin for her vision and tanya for her sonic contribution. they were beautifully melded together. and even though the muses were still fantastic after tanya's departure, you can still hear that missing element. but alas. it just pisses me off how much tanya donelly always gets fucking ignored when people talk about great guitarists especially those specific of that era or alternative(which the muses i think had a hand in shaping,no?)...to me she and polly harvey(another who's often underappreciated) are still my faves!

i totally agree and i live in tasmania.i read smells like teen spirit kurt heard downtown by throwing muses.very similar but kristen wrote this 80s and he did that guitar twang.polly throwing muses juliana hatfield, why they not mentioned guitar

There's live footage of them playing Soul Soldier in 2011, and David has a china, 1 crash, & ride, first time I saw it I thought "he's using a lot of cymbals these days" :) If I could take lessons from a celebrity drummer, I would choose either Narcizo, or Stewart Copeland.

Because back then, the masses in the rock world were overdosing themselves on overrated grunge. Only pathetic Hootie And The Blowfish were somehow spared from the onslaught. I remember those times well and was disgusted as there were quite a lot of unique, killer groups like Throwing Muses in the late 80's/early 90's and each sounded different from each other. Those were the days!

Yeah i'd agree with that... people who love great, innovative songwriters will (or should) know Kristin's work.
I'd say the same of people like Lou Barlow, Billy Janovitz and Ken Andrews... underated and even unknown to many people, but all equally amazing in their own way.
But yeah, great vid anyway hehe

Luv Tanya and Kristin-met Kristin at one of her solo performances and she did excerpts from "Rat Girl" amazing book. Without the lyrics most of the songs wouldn't of been done-even though Tanya wrote the lyrics to "Reel" and a lot of my other faves, and I luv Belly, I don't think the dynamic would have been the same without Kristin-so much more music with her involvement and she has passion/more driven ;)

  • @jonboyjon1976

Actually, I know I'm in a minority but I think it's Dave pushing through the drums and Fred on the Bass. It just makes the song felt rather than heard.
