- In this video I will show how to put a chainsaw chain on properly or replace a chainsaw blade. I did a video on this topic over a year ago but people were saying my arm was blocking their view and they couldn't see every step. Today I'm replacing the chain on a Stihl MS180 chainsaw.

Thanks for pointing out the direction of chain. Other videos about that seemed to take it for granted that a first time user would already know that.
Could not have done it without you... most important was the way you put it accross was easy to follow as have a different model xx
Thanks I actually thought the chain flipped but I had it on backwards 😂 first timer here 😂😂😂 how fun❤
Easy to follow video. Very well done and very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
clear, concise and great information. Thank you very much.
Clear explainations. Thank you so much.
You are welcome!
I recently bought a ms 180c and I had problem with chain. After watching your video I solved my problem. Thanks for your video.
Great!
This is the first and only chainsaw I have used. I feel like I might have been spoiled by the super easy, and super quick chain tightening and replacement system.
Thank you so much! That is the exact model I have and you made it look so easy. I love my Stihl in fact I have two of the exact models. Two is one, one is none. If one is down, I have a spare. I am 75 and cut my own wood.
Excellent demo
Told me everything I needed to know. Thanks!
Thanks for the video
Just bought myself a Stihl!
Can’t wait to use it.
Good choice!
Thankyou for baby stepping it for us I for 1 appreciate it!
Thank you! As a first-time saw owner this is a big help.

Thanks for the good clear guidance.
Cheers from a beginner in Australia 🤠
Very welcome!
Sir, your video was ok, but I suggest you speak a little about the brake mechanism.. Its purpose, when and how to engage it. Thankyou...
Thank You!
You're welcome!
Very helpful thank you!
You're welcome!
Thank very much I appreciated the video
Thank you
Great information
Thanks!
Remember the first pull to start after hearing that sound put se selector to the next step and pull again, bingo start ! Is important the firs pulling sound if not pull again untill hear that sound. Esasy piece!
Good work 🍻
Thank you!
A trick I just learned today is to put a zip tie around the chain and bar after making it tight on the front, top, and bottom to keep things together. Then put the chain on the sprocket and sprocket cover back on.
That’s how I keep my clean and sharpen chains on the bar and switch it all out
much better video
Your video helped me to save my hard earned money..I almost killed my two chainsaws by installing the wrong direction. Thank you very much, Sir.
You're welcome 😊
I like to have my brake on when I start it lol
Great video. I start mine with the chain lock on for safety purposes. Thank you for your time..
Both edges of the chain look like they could cut. But the correct cutting edge will be higher than the other. The chain rotates the way it does so that, if it breaks, it won't fly up into your face.
I just subscribed!
Thank you 😊
No close up of chain tooth? What's forward?
I got an ms18 with 16-inch chain what do I buy for it
Great video! I have the exact model chainsaw..its a work horse..especially over the past few months with the frequent hurricanes here. Just curious, what did you use to clean all that sawdust gunk etc.. off?
I use my air compressor blower nozzle, easy and quick. Before I had a compressor though I used shop towels and brake cleaner lol.
I have an MS181 CB-E easy start - I took the bar off to clean it and was surprised to see a wheel attached to the bar - it's held by a small bolt to the bar but is movable or rather swings up and down - because of this swing action, I'm having a hard time putting the cover on - what am I doing wrong?
I believe that wheel is the tensioner. You can turn it with the sprocket cover on or off. When it's off you rotate that wheel clockwise to loosen the tension: Check out this video starting at 6:44. th-cam.com/video/XzbyTAcVR8Q/w-d-xo.html
brake on or off when starting ?
Some people say brake on for safety reasons of course. I have lots of experience with chainsaws and I'm very cautious. I don't normally use the brake. Do what you feel comfortable with
Nice video, BUT just saying the sharp part of the tooth is meaningless to first-timers. You should zoom in on the tooth and show the sharp part of the tooth has a point. That point is the first contact of the cutting edge. The non-cutting side of the tooth has a right angle straight side. Thx!
😅😅
I’ve seen some very dangerous people with chain saws and they don’t have a clue what they’re doing, stay away or just leave that area 😊
Better to just put bar on saw and then put chain on, hold bar up while tightening
Shouldn’t you start it with the brake stop on/ forward ( for safety?) then……. Release brake and warm up on idle
You can but I have experience, should be fine lol
@@GettingItDoneNorthOf7 Okay, whilst you may have the experience, there may be a few newcomers to chainsaw handling. I would therefore recommend “ brake on”
I know what you .Ean, I've put a chain on backwards lolol
Lol you're not alone Andy. 😅🤣
@ Andy
Need to zoom in on the teeth
That's not a 180
All kinds of crap in here. Lol.
You never showed a close up of the teeth. Yet you say the most important thing was getting the chain in the right direction.so..how does that look?? Would it have been too hard to bring the bar close to the camera lens??
Frustrating and dangerous video.
