A little correction: children and spouse have the same base value! Still the biggest though Fun fact: One of my Sims didn't leave anything to her grandson (didn't know him) but TWO BURGLARS got her inheritance 🤣 Russ Bear actually has FOUR inheritances in my old Pleasantview now 😆 This is of course due to the high relationship Sims get after being furious with the burglar (I recommend the "No Relationship with Burglars" mod). Rose was actually still furious with Jessica Ebadi but left her money anyway 😆
I remember thinking that an elders age would reset when another one died, but I thought it was only in case of them having children on the lot, so they won't end up orphaned. It seemed like an annoying, but somewhat understandable measure against the social worker immediately coming to collect them
I always liked the concept of inheritance in the Sims 2 but it's more like a life insurance than a inheritance. The 20k a spouse gets is just bizar. They could be living in poverty and out of nowhere they are rich just cause their spouse died in a good mood.
While the logical reason is due to default set time, its much much funnier to imagine the elder just got so fed up with still working in their elder years they just gave up. and like same dude
I had a sim who lived two days past his expiration date by playing poker nonstop with the help of a career reward that periodically boosted his needs just by him being in the same room.
Yeah, I recently noticed the age bar glitch. I was so confused at first why my sim died when it wasn't full 😅 The SimPE large number happens because SimPE always shows 1 day less than the game. So when they die, it would be -1 but it's less than the lowest possible number which is 0 causing integer underflow.
In my recent Strangetown save, Olive and Nervous recently re-connected for story purposes. I love that he got more money than Ophelia, when Ophelia was probably expecting the money
There is another bug with elder sims. If two elder sims with platinum aspiration score will die from old age at the same time, only one of them will get the hula zombie and fancy grave stone. The other one will go out as if their aspiration was lower, unless the grim reaper will disappear for a moment from the lot
I kind of wish you actually had to make your sims obtain a life insurance policy like via the phone or computer or something in order to get inheritance from it. And that you would be able to customize who gets benefited from it.
Doesn't seem to be mentioned here, but I vividly remember the "cheat death" wish requiring 5 successful pleas in a row for old age. With the pleading animation playing for every single one of them. And everyone dropping what they're doing to cry EVERY SINGLE TIME. I honestly just wanted the one it happened with to die already. Not sure if it's one of the mods messing with it or not, though, I certainly don't remember installing anything that would affect the genie wishes.
@@Marticore "Cheat death" wish gives one 100% chance to survive whatever, but everything after that has the chance of success lowered by 10% (90%, 80% 70% and so on), according to the wiki. The sim in question ended up using 5 in a row on Old Age death. She also did it 2 or 3 times the second time Grim came for her 5 days later, with him taking her away after the fail. I don't have a reason to disbelieve the chance thing so far, but I AM somewhat confused about the sim using up several pleas, as it doesn't align with anything I've heard about, yet I clearly remember it happening.
Nice work. This is exactly the sort of thing I like to read about myself, so I knew probably 90% of it already, but it's still nice to see it all in this format.
Ok, the age bar glitch and random added days explain so much. I have had so many couples that were the same age and grew up platinum, yet one died days before another and I thought there was something wrong when the other still had days to live according to the age bar.
A (possibly) interesting example of this, that happened in my game: I had an elder die of old age (right after coming out of the work-car as she came home from her SUPERVILLAIN job XD), on the sidewalk, and then the insurance thing popped up and of course, gave the most money to her kids, grandkids, and spouse. However: She never HAD a spouse. Close relationship yes, three kids together, yes, but they weren't engaged and never lived together. But the game called him a spouse! Huh!
Very nice video. I have a sim in one of my households that should have died but is still hanging in there. He and his wife were the same age and she came to the end of her days and died. He should have been next but grim didn't come for him. I am playing a rotational neighborhood and this was the last day with this family so at 3am he's still there, full bar, should be dead but not! I thoroughly expect that when I play that house next he's going pretty quick. Even Sim PE says he has zero days! Hah! One of my longest lived sims in the game made it to 84 days and I think one of the factors that let her live so long was that she and her husband were always going on dates together (her LTW was to have 50 dream dates). When they both retired they would sometimes do 2 dates in the same day. Her father lived to be 80. Quite surprising since he was created as an adult so had no positive age transitions to help him. Most created adults don't live as long I've noticed.
the inheritance money would have been more interesting if the money came from the elders actual earned money. did they earn a lot, did they save up what little they had earned, did they waste all the money on house/furniture, did they never work and lived off someone elses income, etc. adds an interesting layer and could leave some friends and family inheriting nothing despite being "entitled" to it. i think i will do a workaround to that, first using the mod that turns off inheritance, and then making my own percentage dice roll of who gets to earn money and who does not. no guarantees, just increased percentages based on different factors. i could base it off the amount of money the elders household had, divided into how much (i think) the elder contributed to it or how much of it they own if others have left or died. remove that amount from the household, and then distribute it semi randomly (the percentage differences thingy) around to those with close relations, using the funds cheat, with some of the money potentially being lost. i think that would be fun i could also make up my own factors that way, like maybe the personality will play a role, too... thinking something along the lines of active personalities donating money to people they dont like (like an ex), thinking that will inspire them to change their "flaws". nice personalities not really caring that the money goes to strangers they never met, as long as it goes to households in need, basically donating to the poor. neat personalities giving their money to those they think deserve it most, based on achievements or such, rather than basing it on relations. playful ones could be most focused on donating most to children in their family and to close friends. and outgoing could just have the tendency to split up the inheritance the most, to make sure everyone they know more or less gets a tiny bite. the opposite personalities could do something more... opposite lol edit: ok so this is what i roughly ended up doing if theres other persons in the household, elderly's part of household money is determined in percentages by career level, how many days they worked as elderly, how many days the received pension, and the highest career level of people living in the house subtracting to the share. if only the elder lives there, they own all of the household funds every time the elder has aged up and when they die, their aspiration meter determines how many people they will end up inheriting to, with platinum increasing it as high as 10 people each time, to lowest meter reducing the amount of people then i created "positives" and "negatives" based on the elder's aspiration. some examples. family aspiration increasing likelyhood of inheritance to family members, but also makes them prioritized over any other relation. priority meaning they have first rights to the money, meaning if there is little money to go around they will likely get it first. otherwise by default its relation point based, not family relation based. fortune aspiration are more likely to inherit their money to already rich relations, family members will not be considered at all if their relations are not high enough, or be lowest priority. romance aspiration prioritizes lovers over family. and (my favorite) pleasure aspiration always "loses" half of their inheritance money before dying, who knows why. they will also more likely inherit to friends rather than family (popularity aspiration in this case is just more likely to inherit around all too randomly) for determining the base amount of chance to inherit and money inherited: i use STR (short term relation) points to determine likelihood. 100 points means 100% chance to inherit something. LTR (long term relation) points then deciphers base amount of inheritance. 1 LTR means a random amount between 1-1000 simoleons is chosen, going all the way up to 100 LTR points, meaning a random amount between 100-100.000 simoleons are chosen. so someone with 1 LTR can inherit 1000 simoleons, while someone with 100 LTR happens to only get 100 simoleons. life is unfair. if the elder has less money than whats offered per point, its rolled between what they have, so all the money doesnt just immediately get blown towards the first high relation with no one else inheriting anything furthermore, relationship status can change the rolled amount: no relation status get x0.5 less money (they arent even friends) crushes get x1.5 extra money distant relatives get x1.5 extra money and have a 10% chance to inherit despite relation points lovers get x2 extra money bbf's get x2.5 extra money closer relatives get x2.5 extra money and have 25% chance to inherit despite relation points spouse get x3 extra money and have 25% chance to inherit despite relation points children and grandchildren get x5 extra money and have 50% chance to inherit despite relation points aspirations can alter these numbers. those are just base then for the last bit i added the personality variance of the elder. anything between 0-4 personality points or 6-10 personality points adds a chance of an extra bias. someone who has 0 points into slobbiness or 10 points into neatness will have a 50% chance to apply this bias, or if its either 4 or 6 points, it goes all down to only 5% chance. the neutral 5 points adds no bias for neatness/slobbiness, the neat one is more likely to inherit only to very close relations, while slobby might "accidentally" inherit to low relations. i made slobby the one likely to inherit to exes rather than what i first thought for active personality outgoing/shy increases or decreases amount of people inherited to, based on whats been decided from the aspiration level ups active/lazy took on the initial neat/slobby idea, with active more likely inheriting to high achievers, while lazy might more likely inherit to a friend who is divorced (or never got married in the first place), childless, and broke (sympathy?) playful will likely inherit to any youths and pet owners, while serious will more likely reserve their money for adults and elderly, and not let relation statuses cloud their judgement and then finally there is the unique one between nice and grouchy. with nice being likely to ignore all relations and instead donate all their money to the poor and needy in the town, while grouchy has a bit of an "oopsie" like the pleasure aspiration. a random amount of their inheritance might "disappear". sucks for those that expected their demise sooner than later haha and then for this whole thing to work out, each day of an elders life a 50/50 chance is rolled whether they will write their will now or not. if it rolls positive, all these things i just mentioned gets written down and frozen, as in they have now decided who inherits, though the amount is decided on death through the other factors written down. if they die before writing a will, all the money is lost

Also if you were to make a Elder in Create A Sim they would have a green aspiration bar by default.
the inheritance money would have been more interesting if the money came from the elders actual earned money. did they earn a lot, did they save up what little they had earned, did they waste all the money on house/furniture, did they never work and lived off someone elses income, etc. adds an interesting layer and could leave some friends and family inheriting nothing despite being "entitled" to it.
i think i will do a workaround to that, first using the mod that turns off inheritance, and then making my own percentage dice roll of who gets to earn money and who does not. no guarantees, just increased percentages based on different factors. i could base it off the amount of money the elders household had, divided into how much (i think) the elder contributed to it or how much of it they own if others have left or died. remove that amount from the household, and then distribute it semi randomly (the percentage differences thingy) around to those with close relations, using the funds cheat, with some of the money potentially being lost. i think that would be fun
i could also make up my own factors that way, like maybe the personality will play a role, too... thinking something along the lines of active personalities donating money to people they dont like (like an ex), thinking that will inspire them to change their "flaws". nice personalities not really caring that the money goes to strangers they never met, as long as it goes to households in need, basically donating to the poor. neat personalities giving their money to those they think deserve it most, based on achievements or such, rather than basing it on relations. playful ones could be most focused on donating most to children in their family and to close friends. and outgoing could just have the tendency to split up the inheritance the most, to make sure everyone they know more or less gets a tiny bite. the opposite personalities could do something more... opposite lol
edit: ok so this is what i roughly ended up doing
if theres other persons in the household, elderly's part of household money is determined in percentages by career level, how many days they worked as elderly, how many days the received pension, and the highest career level of people living in the house subtracting to the share. if only the elder lives there, they own all of the household funds
every time the elder has aged up and when they die, their aspiration meter determines how many people they will end up inheriting to, with platinum increasing it as high as 10 people each time, to lowest meter reducing the amount of people
then i created "positives" and "negatives" based on the elder's aspiration.
some examples. family aspiration increasing likelyhood of inheritance to family members, but also makes them prioritized over any other relation. priority meaning they have first rights to the money, meaning if there is little money to go around they will likely get it first. otherwise by default its relation point based, not family relation based.
fortune aspiration are more likely to inherit their money to already rich relations, family members will not be considered at all if their relations are not high enough, or be lowest priority.
romance aspiration prioritizes lovers over family.
and (my favorite) pleasure aspiration always "loses" half of their inheritance money before dying, who knows why. they will also more likely inherit to friends rather than family (popularity aspiration in this case is just more likely to inherit around all too randomly)
for determining the base amount of chance to inherit and money inherited:
i use STR (short term relation) points to determine likelihood. 100 points means 100% chance to inherit something.
LTR (long term relation) points then deciphers base amount of inheritance. 1 LTR means a random amount between 1-1000 simoleons is chosen, going all the way up to 100 LTR points, meaning a random amount between 100-100.000 simoleons are chosen. so someone with 1 LTR can inherit 1000 simoleons, while someone with 100 LTR happens to only get 100 simoleons. life is unfair.
if the elder has less money than whats offered per point, its rolled between what they have, so all the money doesnt just immediately get blown towards the first high relation with no one else inheriting anything
furthermore, relationship status can change the rolled amount:
no relation status get x0.5 less money (they arent even friends)
crushes get x1.5 extra money
distant relatives get x1.5 extra money and have a 10% chance to inherit despite relation points
lovers get x2 extra money
bbf's get x2.5 extra money
closer relatives get x2.5 extra money and have 25% chance to inherit despite relation points
spouse get x3 extra money and have 25% chance to inherit despite relation points
children and grandchildren get x5 extra money and have 50% chance to inherit despite relation points
aspirations can alter these numbers. those are just base
then for the last bit i added the personality variance of the elder. anything between 0-4 personality points or 6-10 personality points adds a chance of an extra bias. someone who has 0 points into slobbiness or 10 points into neatness will have a 50% chance to apply this bias, or if its either 4 or 6 points, it goes all down to only 5% chance. the neutral 5 points adds no bias
for neatness/slobbiness, the neat one is more likely to inherit only to very close relations, while slobby might "accidentally" inherit to low relations. i made slobby the one likely to inherit to exes rather than what i first thought for active personality
outgoing/shy increases or decreases amount of people inherited to, based on whats been decided from the aspiration level ups
active/lazy took on the initial neat/slobby idea, with active more likely inheriting to high achievers, while lazy might more likely inherit to a friend who is divorced (or never got married in the first place), childless, and broke (sympathy?)
playful will likely inherit to any youths and pet owners, while serious will more likely reserve their money for adults and elderly, and not let relation statuses cloud their judgement
and then finally there is the unique one between nice and grouchy. with nice being likely to ignore all relations and instead donate all their money to the poor and needy in the town, while grouchy has a bit of an "oopsie" like the pleasure aspiration. a random amount of their inheritance might "disappear". sucks for those that expected their demise sooner than later haha
and then for this whole thing to work out, each day of an elders life a 50/50 chance is rolled whether they will write their will now or not. if it rolls positive, all these things i just mentioned gets written down and frozen, as in they have now decided who inherits, though the amount is decided on death through the other factors written down. if they die before writing a will, all the money is lost

If he outlives her (the elixir of life inventor after all) and she dies of old age before him - no, I don't think the game is prepared for that
does anyone know if holiday homes are being inherited or are they just expropriated once the owner sim dies?
Inherited, you'll get a notification! Same for business
@@Marticore thank you so much!! i was so anxious about losing my beautifully decorated holiday homes but now i can continue playing in peace😭
who honeslty plays with normal age duration
Well, lifespan mods usually don't change elders at all
@@Marticore mods? guess i dont remember correctly, i though you could change how much time you need to age a sim in the sims 2, guess i forgot about it
Nope, that's Sims 3 after the Generations patch (and Sims 3 has a different system for old age death)
You can't change the duration there, can you?..
i did not know that at the moment, i remembered i always tried getting the dumb life extender thingy@@tori_aviator
omg, just in time for my popołudniową przekąską 🥐
Interesting info, thanks for sharing!
Any chance someone made a mod (that you know of) for inheritance being given for other causes, not just old age? Even old age but like a fire death or something? Or death as an adult or elder? Would help some of those left behind 🫣
