I am a life-long guitarist (but a relative newbie to bluegrass) who spends a lot of time on TH-cam, and I feel like Marcel is the most relatable and best teacher out there. The production value is second to none, meaning it is actually a joy to watch his videos all the way through, rather than fast forwarding to the tabs. He doesn't hold your hand like most TH-cam 'teachers' do, and by assuming you already know how to pick a bit, he can fit so much more instruction in his videos. Keep doing what you are doing, Marcel, and thank you for infecting me with the bluegrass bug!
Marcel. You are one of a kind. Been playing for about 16 years. I have a lot of ability but little technical knowledge of how everything works. Thank you
Marcel you should be teaching in college . I've played 50 years i never got a chance to have lessons with people as incredible a musician as you. I can learn more in 2 days from you than last 5 years. I've learned so much just from your freebies lessons I can imagine your course material. I feel 50 years was thrown away as no one was around that was a great teacher so we learned from guitar player magazine and what books we found like the be dangerous books that taught us but never a chance to ask questions to progress. Thanks for doing this for others that want it. I'm just glad I have such a love for the instrument I can only imagine had I really known how to learn in the early 70s.
Best, most organized, teacher on youtube. I appreciate your work. You have made my playing lightyears ahead of where I thought it could be. Keep up the good work Marcel .👍
Great video! I liked how you extended the position 2 pentatonic box to the major scale shape. Apart from the Albert King box, I didn’t know how to use position 2. Makes sense now. Thanks!
Your presentation is excellent. Is it possible/practical for you to make the instagram jazz and grass licks available on youtube? There are a few of us who would rather not use instagram, twitter, etc.
Why does the major 7th sound so beautiful in jazz and other contexts but not in bluegrass? Any thoughts? Great lesson, as always. I wish I encountered this years ago.
I think it does sound beautiful and in the right contexts can work in bluegrass! But bluegrass is generally a harmonically simple style, most songs only have major, minor and dominant chords. There's no maj7 chords in bluegrass standards so the major 7th doesn't feel very consonant to us.
Hey Allen! Yeah, did you get your computer stuff worked out. My memories foggy but I think you had a slow computer and were upgrading? Feel free to email me back and we can talk more!
I don’t how music teachers do today, but back in the day this (pentatonic scales?) was thought as just a CHORD with an extensions of 2nds and 6ths. Just as simple as that!
It's always kind of weird how they say it's a five note scale and instantly show you ten notes! In my opinion when they say here's a five note scale, perhaps someone might actually play FIVE notes!I truly believe more people would experience less confusion!

I label the pentatonic positions along side the modes
Minor / Major / Dorian / Phrygian / Mixolydian
Very impressive lesson. You hit the nail on the head in a knowledgeable and low key fashion. Thanks a million
Thank you Mr. Marcel, All Super Lessons!

Of course! Once a month I post a compilation of the bluegrass licks from the past month. Here's one here: th-cam.com/video/7jM3nJx2U6E/w-d-xo.html
Amazing, thanks marcel!
Wonderful, thank you, I really need this teaching and work. You are the BEST ! I find this to be the hardest work to do on guitar.

I kneed that tony rice shirt !! Haha
Cool!
“I’m not going to go through all of that” 😆
Beautiful perspective! You make it easy to understand.
this is terrific! btw does anyone know what software app(s) marcel uses to make his scale diagrams? appreciate your help!
Why is pentatonic scale of A major then has D in it, when it is the 4 base note
Which is your guitar model
SO IF THE NOTE "F" is your dominant 7 (1138) for the key of G,, where did your flatted 7th go ?
Great stuff maestro!
I tried to contact you a couple weeks ago regarding the Skype lesson. Did you receive that?

I don't know how you can think about off of this while trying to play a guitar.
I don't! This is technical practice, you work on this so when you're actually playing music in autopilot some of this will sneak in!
What is that tattoo of on your neck?
I was born with otosclerosis, basically a hereditary hearing loss. So I have a tattoo of a volume knob turned down all the way behind my ear!
Thank you Marcel. I was just curious.@@LessonsWithMarcel
Kinda useless, milions of examples, zero real usage demostration example..
Too much..bla bla blaaaaa..bla bla blaaaaa..bla bla blaaaaa..bla bla blaaaaa
If you want to learn guitar really fast, give up. It takes hard work and dedication.
