It’s so funny the legendary fish won’t live in a pond but will go in a smaller tank. I know it’s just so you can’t have more than one, but the concept is funny.
Thig is, now it's posible, maybe not so but what if you place a legendary fish in the pond and with 5 prismatic shards or 30 iridium ingots you can increase the number up to 2 making this spot for the now mentioned families of the legendary fish, like, dude, these are the ones who are infinite, not the first ones you caught, the seconds are the ones who can in fact, be infinite
Just a few more tips about fish ponds: the profit of lava eels and blobfish roe is actually very similar because the blobfish have a much higher chance to give you 2 row than the lava eels. If you don’t want red ponds everywhere then go with blobfish. They also produce pearls and farm warp totems, too! A lot of fish ponds have similar rates for the loot at population 9 and population 10. You can actually gain more money from these ponds by catching 1 fish to sell when it gets to population 10. With the angler perk this gives 1075g perk lava eel and 750 per blobfish. Blobfish might seem worse then but they respawn 1 day faster than lava eels (every 4 days vs 5 days) so again the profit is similar. Some fish ponds have noticeably better produce rates at population 10 vs 9 so catching them as they get to population 10 to sell the extra fish isn’t worth it. Look up the differences on the stardew wiki. An example is surgeonfish which gets an whole 25% chance to spawn 2 row at population 10 that isn’t there at population 9. This also isn’t worth it on less populous fish that you really want that extra 1 or 2% chance to get that unique drop from. I use Lingcod to get bug meat and it just keep it at population 10 for the small extra chance to get that sweet 20 bug meat for wild bait.

I just wanna say ty so much bc I'm tired of trying to get dragon teeth and cinder shards and a few other items. I hate going to skull caverns as well so I'm gonna just rearrange my farm real quick. Lol
A little tip for you guys: There's a pattern for where the items will be, so always make your fish ponds 1 tile to the right and 3 tiles up or 1 tile to the left and 3 tiles down from another, this way if you get a rare item in one, you'll get the same item in all of them
@Watch3rOfTheSkies Statistics doesn't come into it; Stardew often has seeded RNG, so it wouldn't be out of the question for that to be the case (compare: clay farming). However, Googling seems to indicate that fish pond *drops* aren't determined in this way, although the *quest* items they request are. (Quest items are purportedly determined by the combination of location and quest start date, so there might be some pattern to prompt them, not sure.)
@Watch3rOfTheSkies Still, if you have 10 fish ponds and you get 10 prismatic shards, how long will it take to get 10 prismatic shards if you wait for the randomness to take effect? 10 years? Most people don't play the game for 10 years.
@Watch3rOfTheSkiesthe chance would be the same, the outcome would be different. The probably of getting an item doesn't correlate with the amount of fish ponds.
Very helpful video and to the point! Also congrats on finally hitting 1k subscribers! You’ll only keep growing and can’t wait to see how big you’ll become!
I craft seafoam pudding just once for the Achievement. If you are any good at fishing, all you need is an Iridium Rod, a Trap Bobber and Dish O' the Sea. Once I get the Stardrop for fishing, I rarely fish, unless I want/need more of some type of fish for whatever reason. For some fish ponds, like Sardine for making Dish O' the Sea, I never let them go beyond 3 fish, because you won't get anything for it other than roe. Now, if the spawn frequency started off bad and got better after each completed "population quest", that would be a good incentive to get your population to the maximum amount.
My rainbow trout pond was the first way I obtained a prismatic shard in the game. Year 5, but that's how I got it. Twice now actually. The other time was when Clint opened a geode and one was there, so then I used my own geode crusher right after to obtain another.
Yes, but don't forget about pumpkin soup. Just use pumpkin and milk. Actually pumpkin soup gives you a higher level of energy and health besides more luck and more defense.
I found that all these "rare" items you get from some fish are indeed coming so rarely, you can go whole seasons or even years of a fully upgraded pond without getting any. Every single one of these items is a LOT easier and more reliable to get elsewhere. In practical terms, ponds are pretty much useless for these, unless you're using a mod that increases the chances.
I’ve had rainbow trout that can produce a prismatic shard and all I’ve gotten are roe and a couple of rainbow shells over 2-4 in-game years (I don’t remember when I started the pond). It’s like a .1% chance. Not worth it imo unless maybe you have a bunch of the ponds???
