Of the many things Project Wingman did super well, it absolutely nailed the feeling of hopelessness and despair, that war has. Even at the very end when you succeed and win, it’s still an empty victory because of the state of the world afterward.
Some games just need some sort of secret ending like that. Like some games you have encounter with final boss at the beginning of the game that you are supposed to lose, but with enough practice you can kill them ending game before it even began.
They did say about the Cordium contamination from the airship so... maybe the cordium from destroyed warheads, ignited by airburst detonations, was sufficient to still set it off?
Well they can still say the Cordium inside the cruise missiles got triggered and the fallout from destroyed Cordium warheads still triggered the entire ring of fire

Maybe you stop the last cruise missile, and you get the Crimson 1 bossfight right there and then, after he nuked Prospero himself
In hindsight, Cordium is Cordium just as Uranium is Uranium. Blowing the missile up doesn't mean the Cordium inside the warhead goes away. It's still active and can cause... unintended side effects.

With a volcano going off and jets in the air i honestly think that it would have helped to collapse part of the mountains caldera so the lava had an exit point.
