He told me one day that he was wondering in the woods one day and suddenly felt a presence like he never felt before. He said he felt something was watching him. Something very threatening. SO what he did was let out a warning shot and it somehow it warded off the feeling and whatever was nearby. His advice was to never go alone in the woods and always carry something because something is out there. If there suddenly no birds chirping or insects making sounds, all quiet. Something is nearby
The word is wandering, but that makes some sense. Be aggressive if you feel an imminent presence in an extremely open environment of nature, especially with a firearm. Also, always carry a melee weapon in case that does not work. Lastly, just don't be dumb and challenge nature in the first place if you really are not prepared for the strange and weird, as often reality is stranger than fiction.
This reminds me of a story about a guy who apparently got lost so people file the missing persons report and then like around couple hundred people went to look for him ,but eventually he saw people looking for somebody but he didn't know or ask for who they were looking for, he just join them Some time later it was established that he participated in his own search party without knowing it

There was a missing persons case in a town near where I live. Two kids were playing in a river that ran through the town and noticed a man walking down the river banks on the other side, they told there parents about the guy and when they went to see where he was he was gone. About a week later a camper from the nearby national park was reported missing. Later that year while preforming repairs on the damn that's at the edge of the town they found his body. When he was walking down the river he supposedly had a seizure then fell in the river and got caught in a tree that was blocking the floodway and drowned. The weird part of it was he was seen in his campsite by another camper 5 minutes before in the town which is a 30-40 minute DRIVE away. I believe the official story was he was walking down the river had a seizure and fell in but where the kids seen him wouldn't make sense for that.
I just looked at the abilities of the wendigo and it's said Windigos are usually credited with exceptional eyesight, hearing and sense of smell. They are said to move with the speed of the wind and have the ability to walk across deep snow or even over open water without sinking.

Story Time: I lived down in the countryside of Virginia for my early years of life, my uncle and grandfather are both hunters. Every time somebody pulled up to their house, or any animal showed, the dogs would bark. (20+ dogs all barking) one day there was no sound. No dogs, birds, no crickets, just silence. It makes you turn and look around. I started to run inside and once I was inside I felt safe. Next day they find one of the dogs mangled and two missing.

I live near Crater Lake and I can tell you, it's beautiful and dangerous during winter season. But also the history of Crater Lake is that its a dead volcano but the island in the middle of the of the Lake, A.K.A Wizard Island, is a volcano, and the reason it's called Wizard Island is because if you go there at night on a certain day in summer, the peak of the island will glow. There is a creepy fact about the lake too. There is a log in the water that will move against the Wind and no one knows why. I fully believe that's what happened to Christopher Thombkins in story 5, somebody snuck up to him and hit him hard enough so that he would be knocked out immediately(if not straight up killed), threw his body over their shoulder and ran off with him. There are no cameras, no lights, no sense of direction, nothing. 1 minute your lost or alone, and the next? Your gone. For good.

But as a kid living not that far away from Harris County on the other side of the woods from our house was a zoo which is weird and occasionally sometimes those animals would get out and wander for months until they would get picked up. But Cryptid or mythical beast we had our own version of a Windygo and I do believe we did have Bigfoot somewhere in the Appalachian mountains on the far side.

I remember a few years ago, a guy in my area swore that he had saw a big black cat roaming around woods near his house. Appalachia is the folk lore for all those Cherokee creatures. If I think I know a few. Cherokee devil which is a Bigfoot, Cherokee Death Cat, even skinwalkers. Cherokee folklore is scary. Btw wendigo's are more closer to northern U.S and Canada.
Skinwalekrs are Diné. The Cherokee don't have any legends about them. The Skinwalker topic is also taboo for the Navajo. But everything else is correct.
