    Since moving from Canon to FujiFilm, I’ve noticed that I’m less likely to lose the highlight detail and the noise looks more like grain than digital interference, just my personal take anyway.

    • @BTMovieSecondChannel
      @BTMovieSecondChannel ปีที่แล้ว

      Canon has got really nice files in general, but the highlights and noise are their weakpoint indeed. The shadows became blue/purple when I lifted them at higher ISO’s. Those were the main things that were improved when I went from my old APS-C Canon DSLR to Fuji. (Of course, the current Canon mirrorless cameras would do better, but still some of these weaknesses seem to be still present.)

    I was a long-time Canon shooter, starting with their film cameras though years of DSLRs. I eventually got out of photography and sold off most of that stuff. I recently got back into it and had to decide if I go back to Canon, or choose something else. I wanted a mirrorless system with IBIS, something relatively unobtrusive for candid portraits and good color rendition. Fuji won me over with their combination of price/value in a first class APS-C package. I ended up with an X-T5 and a couple of lenses. The looks are certainly a nice bonus, as is the recent firmware update to the AF.

    Same reasons for me, though I love the dials on the XT-4 the most, that's why I chose it. To me it feels just much more intuitive, using everything on its own. Also the lenses are incredibly versatile and much cheaper, compared to the mainstream systems like Sony or Canon. For now, the XT-4 is everything I could ever ask for, they have to release something game-changing for me to upgrade to the next system.

    • @TimoVarakas
      @TimoVarakas  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was looking at the X-T4 at first. One thing I forgot to mention was I need a flip screen for some of my videos and the X-T4 has one. But there's so much similarity with the X-H2 cams to the canon cams that the transition felt easier.

    Great video, kaveri! I did a hybrid shoot yesterday and was using Sony for stills and fuji for video. At the end of the shoot I felt like it might be time to just swap the Sony a7 III for a modern Fuji when it comes to stills. The a7 III is just technically soo good but it has no soul. I need more soul in my work even if the quality might take a small hit. Please help me convince myself to dump the Sony!

    • @TimoVarakas
      @TimoVarakas  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Every time I pick up one of my fujis (I have 3 now) and take a shot, I feel like I’m looking through a window to another life full of color and soul. Hell I sometimes feel like it’s an image of my own soul. Out of professional work when I look at a picture I took I get this nice warm fuzzy feeling and almost every time it makes smile, at least let out a smirk. Sometimes it’s pretty comforting. In professional work like weddings and portrait shoots they’re not technically the best, but after changing I’ve pretty much given up on looking at technicalities and more of what it produces. I know fast and snappy autofocus etc. is something you look for in professional work, but I’ve learned to work with my cameras and around that to get the best results that work for me. Though the X-H2s competes even with full frame cameras like the R5. I won’t tell you to change, that’s up to you, but if you’re looking for soul, it’s there. On the positive side if you feel like it doesn’t work, you can always change back, even if changing is a little of a hassle.

    RF lenses aren't all expensive. The non "L" STM primes are actually great and affordable. And then you have tons of EF L glass on the second-hand market for good pricing. And they are full-frame so very different look. That's not to knock on Fuji which I've been on in the past and am considering again for the future (XH2S) as a creative travel tool. You are right about the cameras and the film simulations, its a whole philosophy that brings joy and excitement to the shooting process. The other brands including Canon feel more utilitarian, a bit boring, mainstream. With Fuji you feel like you have a film lab right there inside your camera. I do find the video image way too sharp SOOC even with sharpness at -4 but 6K Open Gate, in ProRes, with minimal rolling shutter is incredible at this price point.

    • @SebastianDavidPB
      @SebastianDavidPB ปีที่แล้ว

      Say what? I'm a mere peasant here who cannot afford an RF lens nor a used L series EF for that matter. I too was a Canon addict and was hard to leave it all behind and took me 1 year of rehab rethinking my choices (used Canon DSLRs from 2007 until 2021), then bought a used Fuji camera. I don't regret leaving Canon behind as I have all the prime lenses I need for way cheaper even new (Viltrox) than the old EF L lenses.

      Thank you for sharing your experience.
      The camera technology is moving forward so fast that it’s obviously affecting the way we look at these tools.
      I remember back in the early days of university, early 2000, when we had a photography course and had to buy an SLR. We had two or 3 choices max. I went with the Nikon F60 (I guess that’s the model!) still have it btw.
      I did not know it was an apsc camera, I didn’t know how different of a system it was and is from Canon, and I didn’t know its pris and cons. It was what I had to buy for the course and what I could afford.
      Yet, I believe I took some of my most beautiful pictures with it, ever, and straight out of film (not SOOC).
      When I had a Sony camcorder, a DV cam (forgot the model name, still have it though), I took the most fun vids ever. It was about vlogging before youtube even existed. I didn’t care about frame rates, slow mo, grading… which was not even possible! I just used it in full auto mode.
      There was a time when we enjoyed using these tools because the options were little and they all offered the same results (to a certain extend). We used them for creating, without the stress of the specs, because owning a photo or video camera was not for everyone.
      My point is, enjoying using a tool is very important. And that’s one aspect that is becoming dominant today. Cameras are not just about performance and results anymore, they are not just production and studio tools anymore, they’re becoming a personal preference and experience that reflect a personal touch and style.
      This is why, imo, more and more solo shooters and one man crew videographers are switching to Fujifilm. Which I am considering as well. I am tempted by the fun experience and the film sims every Fujifilm user talks about. Another point, because camera technology is moving forward so fast, investing wisely is important too. Yes fullframe glass is more expensive in general, and there are often newer options that make what we buy already lose their value quickly. So now i find myself in a position where I’d rather invest in many affordable options that would help me explore more than have fewer options for the quality.

    If only Fuji had full frame and only one mount then could dominate the market. Or even one mount for apsc and medium format. I think in the future this will be the way for fuji, one mount for both sensor sizes, like Sony, Canon, Nikon. Just imagine a mount a bit bigger than Nikon Z but with the smallest flange distance of all...

    • @TimoVarakas
      @TimoVarakas  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But all of them don't have one mount? EF-M, EF, RF, RF-M on canon for example? And in the end after moving from full frame I don't see what the monster is with aps-c.

    • @nightowlnzab
      @nightowlnzab ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No they wouldn’t dominate, full frame is full of established competitors battling it out - Sony and Canon reign supreme, with Nikon hanging in there, and a few others like Panasonic. In APS-C, as an overall system Fuji have basically got the market to themselves.
