The Romance of a Shop by Amy Levy: trying a "New Woman" novel in

The Romance of a Shop by Amy Levy published in 1888 is a true example of New Woman fiction by a woman writer who was trying to be a New Woman herself, so perfect for Katie's Victober 2023 challenge. It's short, charming, political and romantic. And fits the bill for my challenge to read Victorian works that strongly feature class as it looks at the lives and options for middle class women who find themselves in reduced circumstances. I should add that what I say about women working in the video refers to upper middle and upper class women. Working class women always worked and there were many working or lower middle class women running shops and small businesses.
