I like Google Meet because I don't have to install anything and because the interface is much more simple and intuitive, with easy access to anything you would normally need in a meeting. The integration with Google Calendar is also really nice. (I may be biased since I've been using Google Meet for work for more than 1.5 years, but I've also tried Zoom a few times recently)

@@rh8528 Apart from maybe the background replacement feature there really isn't a reason for them to not offer a fully fledged out version of Zoom as a web app. When I want to quickly jump into a meeting with a client, I don't even want them to have to think about installing anything.

You don't need to download tge Zoom app if you have been invited and are just joining a meeting. You need to install it if you are hosting a meeting. Zoom also allows you to view and take over the other persons pc screen or allows them to view and control your screen. Great for training purposes.

Google meet doesn't has good gallery view and zoom allows gallery view upto 49 participants
And about the time limit if you rejoin on same meeting with zoom after you get disconnected you can rejoin and get more time
Even share screen is better in zoom than meet
I have used both and feel google meet to be the worst online meeting app and zoom is off course better
Another good option is Cisco webex

  • @RobertSander

Good comparison, I have added two extensions, Gridview which improves on tile layout because you see yourself in the grid. Meet normally has a grid of all others but keeps you as a small window in the corner. I also added Dualless, and pushtotalk but don't use them nearly as much. Dualless allows you to have a split screen when you don't have two screens. Pushtotalk is self explanatory. I agree, Meet works well for simple meetings, shared screen also works well, but apple users i meet with have trouble joining without practice.

Great comparison. Google Meet all the way for me. Zoom still haven't learnt fully around the Security aspects and it can still be clunky, unfriendly and unnecessarily complex in many places. Google are starting to ramp up development to bring in feature parity too (and bring in those old Hangouts features that used to be around) - there's also nothing to install to get the full experience (unless you're still using IE) which is a great added benefit.
If you're an Edu organisation or a Charity... Google will provide G Suite for free - and of course Meet and many other of their great tools come as part of this so you're in a win win situation.

I'm moving off Zoom after their disclosure on June 4, 2020 that Zoom terminated accounts and meetings discussing the memorial day for the Tiananmen Square massacre. The accounts and meetings were not based in China. That tells me Zoom has not built its technology to operate entirely separate from China. Even if I had a business meeting with only US people the Chinese government could still listen-in and bump me from Zoom. -Frank
