The Chicks are the real deal! Such a talented group of musicians. Interesting, you mentioned Wide Open Spaces a couple of times. They actually have a song by that name. It would be a great one for you to react to! Similar theme/vibe as this song. The switch from The Dixie Chicks to The Chicks is attributed to the group wanting to distance themselves from a word (Dixie) that had been deeply connected with the Confederate-era South. There was never an official announcement from the group, but the rebranding came 2 weeks after another country group, Lady Antebellum, changed its name to Lady A. The Lady A change was accompanied by a social media statement in which Lady A said the country's recent attempts to reckon with racial justice issues (Black Lives Matter) had made the band members' eyes open wide to inequality. Antebellum was a word also associated with the Confederated- era South.

This song you're reacting to is great, DEFINITELY check out "Wide Open Spaces" (my personal favorite), their cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide", "You Were Mine", "Not Ready to Make Nice", and "There's Your Trouble".
I would add "Traveling Soldier" and my favorite super bowl nation anthem version by them, I think it was SB 37. Also look up the history of "Not Ready to Make Nice" before you listen, it makes the lyrics much more powerful. I bought the CD just to support them, I think it was the only CD I bought that year, and really enjoyed it.
Y’all, so many gems from The Chicks. Their 90s and early 2000s stuff is excellent, but their more recent stuff is my favorite. The entire Gaslighter album is worth a reaction, particularly “March, March”, “Gaslighter”, and “Tights on my Boat”. Their mid 2000s “Not Ready to Make Nice” is perfection. You can’t go wrong with The Chicks!

Martie and Emily were part of the original members of the band (Laura Lynch and Robin Lynn Macy were also in the band) formed in the late '80s in Dallas. I saw them at a festival in Dallas in 1992 and they were out of this world amazing. I knew then they were going to make it big. They released a few albums on a local label, "Thank Heavens for Dale Evans", "Little Ole Cowgirl" and "Shouldn't a Told You That". (Their minor hit played on local Dallas radio was "She'll Find Better Things To Do", look it up on You Tube). Macy and Lynch left the band and was replaced by Natalie Maines. Their first major hit was "There's Your Trouble" from the album "Wide Open Spaces". They were no strangers to controversy. At a concert in London, in response to anti-Iraq war protests outside the hall, Natalie declared that she was ashamed that the President, (George W. Bush at the time) was from Texas. That was a big no-no to country music radio and fans. They were banned from airplay and their records were burned. Their other hits "You Were Mine", "Wide Open Spaces", "Sin Wagon", "Goodbye Earl", "Travelin' Soldier", among others.
I have always been a Dixie Chicks fan, I enjoy good music and movies, and don't care where the stand politically. What seems strange to me that they were blacklisted for what they said about then President Bush, what they said then seems mild compared to what is being said about current and past Presidents now.
We are so fortunate to have Robin Macy here in Kansas. She bought the Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine Kansas and has brought nature ,community and music together in breathtaking setting!!
Their version of "Cold Day in July" is a cover. It was released in 1992 by both Suzy Bogguss and Joy Lynn White. I'm much more partial to Joy Lynn White's version. The anguish in her voice is incredible.
You cannot go wrong with these ladies! It is so worth going down the rabbit hole with this group. You'll not find one bad song. Try "Traveling Soldier", "Without You", "Wide Open Spaces", "Long Time Gone", "Let 'er Rip", "Ready To Run", "I Believe In Love", and "Top of the World".
This band is one of my favourites of all time- and they are so underrated when it comes to reactions! they deserve to be reacted to more. I have suggested a few times now that you react to their newest single, March March- PLEASE consider this one. It is SO moving (watch the video with it). From their previous albums, I could recommend so many: Heartbreak Town, There's Your Trouble (a fun one), Not Ready to Make Nice (their response to being cancelled- before being cancelled was even a thing), Landslide (a cover, but still reaction-worthy!) Please do more!
Amber even said wide open spaces at 5:45 and 6:24. If that's not a sign to listen to Wide Open Spaces by The Chicks, my personal favorite by them, I don't know what is. 😂
I still call them “The Dixie Chicks”. They was probably the first music group/artist that was cancelled because of their opinion on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq after 9/11. It’s a shame because they was my favorite group. They dropped Dixie from their name because they was trying to make a comeback and didn’t want to get cancelled again. Like I said….. it’s a shame because of cancel culture that we lost great music. No telling how big they would be and how many more great songs they would have had. I will always be a fan of The Dixie Chicks.
They took a risk and faced the consequences. As a young Marine at the time, that was into country music, I really liked their "Wide Open Spaces Album." But they knew their target audience and alienated a lot of us. Hard to listen to someone that doesn't support what you are doing. It was their choice, and their right to do it. They seem fine with it, and I still think they were great musicians, and hearing these songs is still nice.
They didn’t deserve the cancel culture they received. They disliked Bush and his agenda, but not the men and women that were fighting his war. Overnight, country stations stopped playing their music and it hurt their path to superstardom. I’m still sad when I hear their music. I liked the Dixie in their name. I didn’t see it as confederate related. It refers to the southern states. They are Texas gals.
Would really love to see you guys dip into the Pentatonix pool. They are an Amazing acapella group who are being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!!! They have a lot of songs to choose from. Some of my favs are 90's Melody, Amazing Grace, Hallelujah...just to name a few.
@@poolhall9632 They are artists. Their tight harmonies and clever arrangements make them the GOAT of a capella. Millions of pentaholics would not agree with you that they are a glorified choir. They have over 600 thousand views of their Hallelujah video. Obviously they see something in them that you don't appreciate.
@@paulamelnyk986 any trained vocal group could do what they do. Their initial appeal is the novelty of a cappella in pop music and their early covers of #1 pop songs. Without others peoples music to rearrange and sing, they would not exist.
@@tomrwills I will pat it for him if he can’t reach. I wish that group no success. Maybe New York will take the “New” out of “York” next because it’s somehow racist. So stupid.
I think it's appropriate to call them The Chicks. They're a different band now, their music will never be the same. They abandoned the music that their fans loved for new jaded pop version of themselves. Purposely having done this they don't want to be associated with country music any longer. I think most of their fans reciprocate the feeling as Gaslighter their newest album under The Chicks name is by far the least selling of all their albums. This was a Dixie Chicks song but they are not that band anymore so they should be called by their new name The Chicks.
They dropped Dixie in support of Black Lives Matter after the murder of George Floyd. The right thing to do is call them what they ask you to call them.
I think my favorites of theirs are "The Long Way Around," "Long Time Gone," "Goodbye Earl," "Wide Open Spaces," "Gaslighter," "White Trash Wedding"...so many great tracks. If you ever get the chance to see them live, DO IT.
they dropped the 'dixie' and the association that word has with the South during slavery, in solidarity with the BLM movement. Their song March, March was released around the same time. The video for that one makes me cry. It's a great song. Another fun one by them is Sin Wagon, but really, the whole Wide Open Spaces album is gold, as others have said
Loved this reaction so much I watched it here after already watching twice via your Patreon the other day! They have so many good ones: "Wide Open Spaces", "Not Ready To Make Nice", "Travelin' Soldier", "There's Your Trouble". *SheDaisy* is another incredibly harmonious country female band I think you'd love! "Little Good-byes", "I Will...But", "Don't Worry 'bout A Thing" & "Get Over Yourself" are a few of my favs!
They are so fng good. So crazy that one statement had them cancelled. Glad to know they have come back. In America a person should be able to say what they think without getting ruined. Incredible talents.
“You were mine”and “I’m not ready to make nice” are must listens!!! Might want to look up a bit of into before listening to not ready to make nice before listening to that one!
these ladies have a mountain of songs that are awesome. probably my favorite country girl band of all time. they changed their name from dixie chicks to the chicks after the george floyd incident and the protests that came after.
Martie (fiddle player) co-wrote this song for her sister Emily (banjo player) as a wedding gift to her and her than husband, country singer Charlie Robison, who is a real cowboy living on his range.... Natalie (lead singer) later said, that girls were trying to perform this song on Emily´s wedding but had too much of alcohol so they performed little bit of "dirty version" with a lot of lyric twists :) It was releasedon their second album FLY in 1999 (won ACM, CMA, Grammy, British Country Music Awards, Canadian Country music Awards - for Album/country album of the year) and Cowboy Take Me Away is one of the fans most favorite song by Chicks.
"Long Way Around" is one of my favorite Chicks songs. That entire album "Taking the Long Way Around" is so good! It has my favorite cover of "Landslide" on it. Also, "Lullaby" is beautiful. I first heard it on the TV show Medium with Roseanna Arquette. Now I have to go listen to that entire album. I'm not a huge Country and Western fan, but there are a few I like. I love a good Irish sounding Fiddle. I hope you react to more of the Chicks music. Yes, their lyrics are wonderful.
The Dixie Chicks will be known as The Chicks moving forward. The country girl trio dropped the word "Dixie" from their name amid the nationwide protests about systemic racism and debates regarding the removal of Confederate monuments. They revealed the new name while promoting their new song "March March" on social media.
When it's country music it's a fiddle...LOL Fiddlleing is true Country an Western from way back. My Dad played Fiddle and banjo, my Mom played piano and 1 of my brothers played drums in a band in the 60's for true square dances, not the ones with the fancy dresses, the ones that was in the country on Saturday night at the dance halls. 20 miles from the nearest town. My 1st dance I learned was square dancing standing on my daddy's feet to learn the steps. That is true hillbilly country. Yes I am from the foothills of the mountains of SE Ohio and West Virginia and damned proud of it. I feel lucky to have been raised like that.
If you do movie reactions you should consider the Documentary "Shut Up and Sing". Just before the Chicks said what they said that the Right Wing used to attempt to destroy them, they had a documentary film crew covering them. They kept rolling through everything. It is an unbelievable snapshot of the very onset of the war in Iraq and the entire reaction to what happened to the Chicks. It is an eye-opening and intimate documentary that will make you love them more.
My all time favorite of theirs. Second is "Goodbye Earl", third is "Not Ready to Make Nice"... that's subject to change depending on what mood I'm in at the time... lol... can't forget "Wide Open Spaces" though... when Natalie's voice does that jump on the line "She said, "It didn't seem like that long ago"... wow. "You Were Mine" will break your heart every time too. Had to edit twice.... if you want some kick butt country girl groups, I HIGHLY recommend going in the 80s for Wild Rose or the Forester Sisters... great harmonies from both groups. For Wild Rose I'd suggest "Breaking New Ground"... for the Forester Sisters, "I Fell in Love Again Last Night"... Last edit I promise... Wild Rose's "Breaking New Ground" is sometimes hard to find on here so here ya go: th-cam.com/video/Iv6dybhL__I/w-d-xo.html

I hadn't realized they changed their name, so I googled why: "The Chicks officially changed their name in June [2020] in wake of the anti-racism and anti-police brutality protests triggered by the killing of George Floyd." I was ill with covid from May-July in 2020 when they changed their name, so I really missed the news! Lol. I've been referring to them by their old name this whole time. Oops! A few other really good ones of theirs are When You Were Mine, Cold Day In July, and There's Your Trouble. So good. Great reaction!! 🙂
Sin Wagon is a really fun fast song of theirs. And, for a completely different vibe, Cold Day in July is, imo, one of the best break-up songs ever.
Sun Wagon is amazing.
Give It Up or Let Me Go also great.
Honestly, their first two albums don’t really have a bad song.
Their version of "Cold Day in July" is a cover. It was released in 1992 by both Suzy Bogguss and Joy Lynn White. I'm much more partial to Joy Lynn White's version. The anguish in her voice is incredible.
NOT READY TO MAKE NICE!! They are awesome! Thanks for playing the country.
Some other amazing songs: "Travelin' Soldier" "Wide Open Spaces" "Not Ready To Make Nice." All are amazing.
Amber The Chicks have a huge hit called Wide Open Spaces it's amazing! Natalie Manes has an excellent voice!
Got the see them live once. They we're AMAZING! I'm not a country music person, but these ladies are great!
Goodbye Earl is so much fun!😂
"Not Ready To Make Nice" and their cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" are awesome.
Cold Day In July is amazing too! Sad but Natalie kills it!
You've just scratched the surface! Please more Chicks! Please pretty please! Seen them 2x in concert and they are flawless!!!!!!!!!
That’s exactly what happened
They took a risk and faced the consequences. As a young Marine at the time, that was into country music, I really liked their "Wide Open Spaces Album." But they knew their target audience and alienated a lot of us. Hard to listen to someone that doesn't support what you are doing. It was their choice, and their right to do it. They seem fine with it, and I still think they were great musicians, and hearing these songs is still nice.
it wasn't their opinion on the wars it was the insulting American in another country. then thinking that Americans would be ok with that.
@deg1224ify where I lived Americans were also insulting that same American and completely agreed with The Dixie Chicks
Not Ready to Make Nice is an iconic Chick's song. ❤️❤️
I agree!!! Please check them out.
They have already reacted to Hallelujah and Sound of Silence.
no. terrible idea. let’s stick to actual bands / artists, not glorified choir.
The Corrs will really give you your fiddle fix. Particularly " The Right Time". Great song.
Absolutely right,love those girls
Loved The Dixie Chicks!!! Will never call them the chicks. 🎶 phenomenal group! Perfect harmony! So talented!
Way to never change and be stuck in your ways! Pat yourself on the back
@@tomrwills I will pat it for him if he can’t reach.
I agree I won't either
Thanks!
Their version of Landslide is beautiful
I think my favorites of theirs are "The Long Way Around," "Long Time Gone," "Goodbye Earl," "Wide Open Spaces," "Gaslighter," "White Trash Wedding"...so many great tracks. If you ever get the chance to see them live, DO IT.
they dropped the 'dixie' and the association that word has with the South during slavery, in solidarity with the BLM movement. Their song March, March was released around the same time. The video for that one makes me cry. It's a great song. Another fun one by them is Sin Wagon, but really, the whole Wide Open Spaces album is gold, as others have said
Great album!
Funny that they suck now, after getting rid of Dixie.
Written by Martie McGuire who is the one on fiddle...Great song...They have an amazing catalogue of songs
When they were on tour after this album, I was able to see them live. One of the best concerts I’ve been to!!
Have not been lucky enough to see them live but I fell in love with them after I saw a "live" concert on TV
I love Natalie Maines' voice!
They are so fng good. So crazy that one statement had them cancelled. Glad to know they have come back. In America a person should be able to say what they think without getting ruined. Incredible talents.
Here's another one from the 90's, Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter. Thanks.
“You were mine”and “I’m not ready to make nice” are must listens!!! Might want to look up a bit of into before listening to not ready to make nice before listening to that one!
"Wide Open Spaces" by the DIXIE Chicks
Thank you x3 This is My song ! I used to dance to it in my living room with my nieces ! Yee Haw 🤠❤️❤️❤️🤟🏼✌🏼🐇
*The Chicks - "Loving Arms", "You were Mine", "There's Your Trouble".. so many great ones.*
Finally. I couldn't believe everyone was overlooking "You Were Mine"
All awesome
@5:44 Now you gotta hear Wide Open Spaces by The Chick's!
I believe it's their first hit
these ladies have a mountain of songs that are awesome. probably my favorite country girl band of all time. they changed their name from dixie chicks to the chicks after the george floyd incident and the protests that came after.
I'm with you baby, it speaks to our wild souls.
I love these girls! Always have! Travelin Soldier is also a good one!
Came here to say this. What an incredible wedding gift!
Such a beautiful song
"Long Way Around" is one of my favorite Chicks songs. That entire album "Taking the Long Way Around" is so good! It has my favorite cover of "Landslide" on it. Also, "Lullaby" is beautiful. I first heard it on the TV show Medium with Roseanna Arquette. Now I have to go listen to that entire album. I'm not a huge Country and Western fan, but there are a few I like. I love a good Irish sounding Fiddle. I hope you react to more of the Chicks music. Yes, their lyrics are wonderful.
You should add their ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’ to the list...it’s excellent!
Truth be told fiddle, violin...same thing. Just the genre that makes the difference.
They has sooooo many good songs!! Please do more!!!
My favorite Chick's song. Reminds me of my Hubby when we met. Also Landslide
You would love Travelin Soldier
The banjo and fiddle players are sisters. (That’s part of why they have that sublime harmony vocal blend.)
These woman live are unreal.
This whole album was hit after hit.
Thank you for the reaction! You will love "Wide Open Spaces" - a beautiful song by these talented ladies! More songs by The Chicks please!
Natalie has the purists female country voice ever. Love some Dixie Chicks😊
Travelin Soldier by the Chicks is a must. The live version.
Tell him mama , you play a violin and you saw on a fiddle 😂
Ready to run is another good song from The Chicks.
This is a great song ! Another female band I recommend to check out are The Corrs. They have a Celtic sound using violin in most of their music.
Amen, they aregreat
Wide Open Spaces and You Were Mine are a must!
Great list!!
They have a bit of sibling harmony helping them out, two of the Chicks are sisters.
Their musicality is amazing. They don't have a bad song.
I’m going to see The Chicks in Texas in October. I can’t wait. I’m taking my daughter who I took to see them when she was five and they were a favorite of hers. I love all their songs but their cover of Landslide is my absolute favorite. Wide Open Spaces is great too.
Oops! Learn something new every day! :)
They're virtue signaling woke jerks for claiming having Dixie in their name is racist. Yes their Dixie Chicks music is good but they're right up there with Jane Fonda on my sh*t list for their ridiculous over reaction to the death of George "the felon Floyd.
Written by Martie McGuire about her sister’s ( the one playing the banjo) marriage to a ‘cowboy’ basically
The woke olympics gold medal winners...no longer the Dixie Chicks because someone wined about the word Dixie...now they are just the Chicks...flush this world down.
Love how ya’ll just bobbed your heads and jammed to that amazing instrumental ending! (Without pausing) ❤
