It's the singers' voices are holding them back. I like this band but find it hard to listen to them too long. Sorry in advance for hurting your feelings
First time I saw Pinback, it was at Emos in Austin. I believe it was 2001 prior to the release of Blue Screen Life. We made the 200 mile from Dallas to Austin to see them. The internet was in its infancy at the time, so we had no idea what the band looked like. We arrived to the venue pretty early. The only people in the bar were the three of us, the bartender and this chubby guy who was going to town on the pinball machine. He was bumping the shit out of that machine, probably Tilted every ball. He was super into it, yelling, dancing etc. We start laughing about him and then my friend was like "oh shit, I think thats Rob Crow". We had a good chat with him and we noticed that he was wearing the same shoes as us (we were buying these velcro shoes that sold at walmart for like 8 bucks". There were probably only about 25-30 people that came to the show, so it was very intimate. It was one of my favorite shows I've ever been to.
I have a really similar story! I found Pinback on a bootleg snowboard video back in 2001! I was instantly in love with their music and I got to see them a couple of times. Then I met my now wife and I gave her a mixed tape and Pinback was the first track. She came back with the mixtape and she highlighted Pinback, an Anthony Green song (not sure which one), and Mars Volta. We've been together ever sense. THEN a few years later we got to see them together and Rob talked to us after the show, I think he gave my wife the setlist. It was great.
My all-time favourite band, and have been for years and years. I may not listen to them for a long while, but when I do, it sparks a month of nothing but pinback and I absolutely love it.
Pinback has played such a big role in my life, that I can't imagine myself without them... so much nostalgia.... so many ups & downs... they remain beautifully consistent... forever amazing! Thank you Zach & Rob!
It's because they're a fantastic example of true musicians not just guys who happen to play an instrument in a band. Individually, they're extremely talented at often more than one instrument which absolutely expands not only their musical knowledge but ability to "think out of the box". Collectively, their respective styles mesh extremely well and compliment each other almost perfectly. Their ability to stay consistent yet grow has been nothing short of impressive, like you basically said.
Haha, He is yes Hes my all time favorite bassist and favorite overall musician Hes really special definitely, and horrible underrated cuz muh playing bass like guitar : p
I need more Pinback in my life... And this is coming from someone who's "most-played" artist for the decade of 2010-2020 was Pinback (according to Spotify).
I just found out about them like a month ago but just yesterday and today i have been listening non stop, they're SO GOOD and now I've been looking for live performances and they don't dissapoint. I wish I could get t see them live.
It took me years to understand these guys.there poppy straightforward pavement meets arcade game sound These guys are ahead of the game God bless them Simple.beautiful music
....There is no band that sounds like quite like pinback, and they seem incapable of recording a bad song. (And though dated, "Dark Star" is definitely worth watching at least once.)
That Alembic Stanley Clarke Signature bass though...such an amazing tone. Its a $10,000 bass but its Zach's playing which makes it really sound so good....
I've been listening to Pinback since 05' versus people who have been listening to them since 99. They recently came to my town but I'm months away from turning 18 :'(
19:35 The lyrics in the second verse in "True North" are supposed to be "Weight of the humans taken off, shedding the ozone, finding a new home" and instead Rob sings the first verse lyric "Crust of the earth is flaking off, changing the time zone..." and yes, I have no life.
I see they have improved on their live voices..I watched an old performance and I had to turn it off, but I liked all their recorded songs. Good to see they improved what they needed.
I didn’t know what to make of “Information Retrieved” at first, beyond that the first two songs were perhaps the finest the band every produced. It was this set that convinced the dip in quality wasn’t nearly as wide as I created because those front two tracks are pretty much perfect. Coming around to the fact that this may be the most consistent Pinback Album front to back.
That's exactly what I'm saying May 22nd 2015 was the official last show Glad I had an opportunity to open for them, play bass on Manchuria live with them, and to see their final show Check out systems officer if you want to hear Zach continue playing his bass That project of his continues
One of the most underrated bands out there.
Without a doubt. Them and Irving.
Yeah absolutely I‘ve got every single of their vinyls, even different pressings and all such a treasure man!
Of all time possibly
It's the singers' voices are holding them back. I like this band but find it hard to listen to them too long.
Sorry in advance for hurting your feelings
STILL .
Zach has such a unique way of playing bass. His sound carries so much weight in the mix and fills up the band a lot. Such an inspiration
Standard three-piece requirement for any decent bassist in a decent band.
He plays it like a mix of a rhythm and lead guitar player. So cool
The bass is never in the background.
Always on equual footing or flexing but not solo-wanking
I actually prefer zachs vocals over robs so much more honestly you should check out his systems officer band
Alembic bass has that unique sound

This sounds like a great time
"Life stuff is weird; it happens the whole time you're around" - Rob Crow. I love this man unconditionally
KEXP has such a phenomenal recording engineer, every performance in their studio is absolutely superb quality.
rarely have i listened to a band and loved every single song, pinback is such a band.
Same...they haven't made a single shitty song. Not even close actually.
True that.
No they need to be heard...why isnt true north on the radio
yeah whenever a song is listened to it reduces how many times other people can listen to it *what are you talking about*
Wisb i had that number bout now.
My all-time favourite band, and have been for years and years. I may not listen to them for a long while, but when I do, it sparks a month of nothing but pinback and I absolutely love it.
That rob crow first "okay" is fricken wonderful. Amazing music
These guys are one of a kind. That bass sound, the simple/solid drummer and vocals, harmonies/melodies. Nothing else like it.
Compashy...
I never get tired of listening to Pinback....
Yay Close yoorr ride
Pinback has played such a big role in my life, that I can't imagine myself without them... so much nostalgia.... so many ups & downs... they remain beautifully consistent... forever amazing! Thank you Zach & Rob!
They are genius at making unique songs and melodies blend together. Highly recommend listening to their albums.
This, right here, is the only band that I really admire and respect....
00:29 Drawstring
04:17 Sherman
12:33 A Request
16:30 True North
I grew up with you guys. You gave me memories I don't think I ever lived through. Thank you so much.
I didn't know William H. Macy was such a solid drummer.
I heart pinback
Or Pig Pen from the Dead!
His name is Chris Prescott, check out his work. Drummer from San Diego.
Yeah and it's nice to see Pete Townsend on bass. Change it up a little.
*then Chris plays: badum tsss!
Truly one of my absolute favorite bands if not favorite.
So rad -- Rob and Zack both have had their guitars for 20 years or more... the bass has a 3MilePilot sticker on the headstock. I love it!
Zach is a founding member of 3MP.

Best Bass player ever.
Haha, He is yes Hes my all time favorite bassist and favorite overall musician Hes really special definitely, and horrible underrated cuz muh playing bass like guitar : p
Zack is stupid good at bass.
Two Jamie's think alike! Sincerely Best Ever!
I need more Pinback in my life... And this is coming from someone who's "most-played" artist for the decade of 2010-2020 was Pinback (according to Spotify).
I wish so bad pinback was more famous they are so underrated
No. I think they got about as popular as you would want a band like to get. Look what happened to Modest Mouse.
That’s dope. What station played Penelope on the radio in ATX? I’m about 10 years past due to see them live
@Username 1991 The Team Sleep song "People Staying Awake" is also great :D
@@rasylum what happened to modest mouse?
No leave them for us : D
Been listening to them in last few years. Feel so late but glad to have come across them.
Love these guys! So great live and the fans are really dedicated. Come to St. Louis soon and often! Thanks for the great music Pinback!
Pinback is an excellent band, even my favorite of the 2000's, 'Summer in Abaddon' and 'Autumn of the Seraphs' two masterpieces.
I wish I had a kexp version of every album. I love this band so much
Great sound recording and always enjoy some Pinback.
They have a great sound. Holy talent.
11 years later and I'm here... Miss hearing new pinback albums.. I loved this one!
Woohoo! I found real love through this band. It brings me back. It's so complex and original.
I just found out about them like a month ago but just yesterday and today i have been listening non stop, they're SO GOOD and now I've been looking for live performances and they don't dissapoint. I wish I could get t see them live.
As a huge Pinback fan, I can only agree and smile at how insightful and truthful this comment is.
Gosh SO BADASS!!!!!! The music and vocals is so beautiful
Hits my heart ❤️ in the best way possible
Pinback rocks
It took me years to understand these guys.there poppy straightforward pavement meets arcade game sound
These guys are ahead of the game
God bless them
Simple.beautiful music
these guys just continue to amaze me........the best thing I got from living in San Diego was finding these guys.
....There is no band that sounds like quite like pinback, and they seem incapable of recording a bad song. (And though dated, "Dark Star" is definitely worth watching at least once.)

How the fuck have I not watched this yet.
Exactly my thoughts.
Same, I've always seen it in recommended but never watched it until today.
That Alembic Stanley Clarke Signature bass though...such an amazing tone. Its a $10,000 bass but its Zach's playing which makes it really sound so good....

Every pinback album has amazing bass, and the bass player sings also!
@@Atlas_Mohler How can you tell he sings?
@@whatdothlife4660 Their voices are slightly different.

Agreed
It does not get much better than that. Pinback is phenomenal.
I've been listening to Pinback since 05' versus people who have been listening to them since 99. They recently came to my town but I'm months away from turning 18 :'(
such a sweet little voice from that grizzly bear
19:35 The lyrics in the second verse in "True North" are supposed to be "Weight of the humans taken off, shedding the ozone, finding a new home" and instead Rob sings the first verse lyric "Crust of the earth is flaking off, changing the time zone..." and yes, I have no life.
