I love it when a band that has a lot of guitars......sounds like A LOT OF GUITARS. Not just a bunch of clowns standing there strumming the same fucking chord. Built To Spill has such a huge and spectacular multi layered guitar sound. great band!

craigdamage Dude... comment of the century!! never thought I’d see someone comment PRECISELY was I was thinking. It’s always driven me crazy when a band has 2+ guitarists live, and they’re are basically just playing the same power chords, with one of them switching to playing a solo during the solo, and then right back to playing the same thing as each other. I guess I understand if what you want is a muddied-up mess, but otherwise it’s so lazy and unoriginal. If you have multiple guitarists, take advantage of it! One great example of a band that perfectly made use of multiple guitarists was Fugazi. There wasn’t a rhythm guitarist and a lead guitarist. It was more that one of them played a crunchier style on an SG, and the other guy played a more “sparkly” Rickenbacker. It was the perfect two-guitar attack, imo. Another obvious example was Sonic Youth. They made better use of the guitar in general than anyone ever.

I got to meet and talk to Doug after a show a couple months back and before we parted he shook my hand, and like Excalibur from the stone, his touch transferred a small portion of his power and I now have the ability to play any Built to Spill song I wish... Well I still can't play like him but that's what it feels like to meet Doug Martsch.

+JcGrubbsFilms I met Jim Roth after a show in Gainesville, Fl. I was intoxicated after the show, went to the food truck, stood in line for a minute with a buddy(who is not so much a BTS fan), then as the person in front of me turned around, I noticed who it was. I said, " whoaaa, you're you! Jim Roth! One of the three reasons I began playing guitar(100% accurate). He had two arms full of nachos. He balanced them on one arm TO GIVE ME A HANDSHAKE AND FORMALLY INTRODUCE HIMSELF. He asked me my fucking name. There's not a band like this with such down to earth members on this fucking planet.

I met him years ago after a show in Philly. He was loading his own equipment in an alley behind the venue and I couldn't help but say hi. He was super nice and open to meeting a random fan. I asked for an autograph and only had my car registration, so he signed that. He signed his name "Dug".

I was in a crappy band in high school called Mellow Stigma. My brother, Dano, and his friend Nick Garcia snuck us into the Neurolux to play a show for the first time in front of a live crowd. It was 1995 and I think we interrupted the Electric Peaches set. I was so scared....but I can still remember Doug doing the sound for us and telling me to turn up my guitar. I'm a single dad and an accountant now (suicidal??)...but Doug still inspires me to plug in and make some noise from time to time. That is one of my best memories. It is pretty cool to live in the same town as your musical hero.
Thank you Doug. I appreciate all of the hard work you've put into making music that means a lot to me.

I remember going to one of their concerts here in Dublin and actually I didn't even know Doug face but just loved their music. And during the opening act, in an almost empty theatre there is this guy dancing near me... On the last song of the support band, he and the others get from the floor to the stage, they all take the instruments and play a last song with the support band. At that stage I had a huge smile on my face! Great stuff and really a cool humble guy, that's how Doug came across. A great memory

I will go anytime I can to hear them. I first saw them in NY shortly after the attacks and they covered Lennon ,Imagine(was a fan as soon as I heard Doug's skills) ...but love all THEIR stuff, it was just a moment I'll never forget

Saw them live at Bluesfest in Ottawa, Canada in 2007. I was volunteering at the backstage catering. Served Doug & the gang but was too shy to say hi and that I'm a big fan. Regrets!

Coolest frontman ever is a short list Doug and Geoff from Thursday. Only guys I've met who will go out of their way for fans, hang around even though you know they need to roll out. Also have seen shows from both where they were so God damn contagiously happy to be doing what they were doing it made the experience, and the music was fucking transcendent so thats saying something.

You know what, also wanna add both will have set lists totally and completely for their fans. Even with a new album out they'll play what they know people came for. Ffs Geoff once asked the audience for permission to play a great song off their latest album. As a musician idk if I'd be that nice and they are way wayyy further along and above my ass haha
