It really is an incredible film…. I was in tears at the ending, seeing Shikishima find forgiveness for himself and the will to live, watching him decide not to kill himself, to let himself look forward to a happy life… at the same time, not even knowing if they would be able to stop Godzilla, not knowing if there was even a chance of such happiness for him. I was so impressed with Shin Godzilla, I didn’t think anything would come close to that for a long time, but Godzilla Minus One might be even better.

I've loved this sequence for years: even if the monster wasn't animated perfectly, it may well be my favorite Godzilla SCENE. But only now do I realize that "Godzilla Minus One" is just the same vision of the monster, but done bigger and badder.
