The Green Knight - Godzilla

- A little CG exercise I had to finish within in 48h as an entrance examination for the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. The task set was, to implement Godzilla into whatever footage. There are some issues but all in all I like it.
My tasks here were Animation (which is not very detailed because of the short amount of time), Lighting, Rendering, Tracking, Rotoscoping, Compositing (removing the Giants from the original film) and some Sounddesign for the Godzilla.
Software used:
Cinema 4D R25 and Redshift
Nuke
DaVinci Resolve

This dude for real saw Godzilla and said: “Yo! Could I get a ride?!”
yes yes godzilla in ancient times is what i wanted to see for 3 years
Having watched The Green Knight & given all the critical acclaim that movie received, I feel it was an injustice that they cut Godzilla out of the theatrical release over some silly contractual disputes.
Thank you for preserving this piece of cinematic history.
Could you please detail this more or tell me where I could find anything discussing this? I was not aware of any link between the two

I wanna see this movie. Enough with the science and missiles. I want a movie where ancient Men love, worship and Co exist with a mystical mythical entity they did not understand. A movie about knights and tribesmen and titans and their sacred relationships. The stories behind the myths.
You are so right. I am so bored of the latest Godzilla movies because they are such an overload of action and bad acting. The VFX is great of course but story sucks imho. So hopefully there will be an ancient Godzilla story in the future.
The best element of all godzilla movies were the reverence we had for this eldridge being. But post rennaisance western social philosophy has always been about taming and conquering nature. The legendary movies clearly falls under this philosophy. Ancient man might feel the other way.@@tillgiermann3796

why am i getting deja vu from this comment
@@krook_prothespinosaurusi think he is excluding godzilla -1 and referring to the monsterverse movies
THIS person does in 48 hours what Hollywood, in many cases, couldn't do in 48 weeks! MUCH respect!
They do be wasting time on "intricate details" which mostly no one sees to
to think what graphic artists can do if they weren't overworked underpaid (like those in marvel and disney) and they could actually create stuff passionately

this isn’t even 3 minutes lol. to be a movie it need to be longer than an hour and 20 minutes so yea not close enough.
Proof of concept of what happens when you stick Godzilla into an actually well written, well crafted movie. Somebody should let the writers of Monarch know…
It's amazing how well Godzilla fits any scenario, be it medieval, modern, futuristic dystopian, dark, lighthearted, i mean what a fantastic character japan has created. And there's people that want Godzilla to stick t one side, usually the more serious one, please, kindly STFU and stop trying to put Godzilla in a box and learn to appreciate every side of his character.
Well said
Exactly, there's godzilla for literally anything!
Definitely the most versatile character in fiction
After alll, Godzilla is an ancient alfa predator. Very nice short film.
Nope, he doesn’t. Godzilla fans just suffer from brainrot.
“Turn off your brain and consume!”
@@ExpertContrarian he does.
otherwise this franchise wouldn't be alive to this day.
also, "bRAiNr0t!!1" has no meaning anymore, you mfs just use it to describe anything you don't like or don't agree with 🤣
This is the best version of Godzilla in my opinion. Especially with that original voice.
Legend has it, that there is a legendary beast up on those mountains. Only he who is pure of heart, does the beast show himself. If one is worthy it will show him the path... His destiny. But be warned, if one doesn't show respect. The beast will bring him bad luck and chaos.
Times in this universe where mankind had worshipped these non-sapient god-like animals, indicating that man isn’t a ruler of Earth.
They should make a Godzilla BC film with the original primal look of godzilla we saw in 2014
Absolutely agree 💯 but in much more bigger size.
@@oak7OO5You’re right, things are probably extremely large during the BC considering how they evolve, these creatures do kinda evolve pretty quick too, but honestly, the BC was probably when there’s a bunches of titans and dinosaurs roaming all over the world it wouldn’t make much differences in size as everything is large
Can you imagine watching a movie or a show set in the olden days and Godzilla JUST happens to be in it too. Like officially. Unexpected.
48 hours and a budget that is WAY lower than the 300 million dollar budget movies put out today and it STILL came out better!! Granted like you said not perfect, but still nothing to scoff at either. Very well done for such a short amount of time. I would imagine the editing processes must have been exhausting.
I wouldn't go that far but it's still an amazing piece of work. I wouldn't even be able to figure out how to do this in a year.
to think what graphic artists can do if they weren't underpaid and they could actually create stuff passionately
this is nowhere near "better" 💀💀💀not one to hate but this is really janky, lighting is bad, movements are SUPER stiff. hes a good animator.
Godzilla Minus One had a budget of less than 15m$ and when I saw the results I was like ”no way”.
Interesting concept. One can really get into this type of Godzilla flick. It's a refreshing take and makes me feel like I can see how Godzilla might be around since the days of the knights, heck, even since before the time of Jesus. Although technically he got his powers during the atomic bomb age, I can kinda see a scorched Earth live action, kinda like the Netflix animated. BTW any Godzilla fan, if you haven't watched that, you are missing out.
No Legendary the Big G in the clip has been around millions of years not thousands.
He woke back up when we started doing nuclear testing but he has been seen all of the world by different cultures
60 subs and you did this? No way. This shows how underrated we are no matter the effort I'm a animator too. Don't worry I hope you get 1 mil someday.
Thats a hell of a compliment, thank you! :)
Actually this is possible as Monsterverse Godzilla is an ancient alpha Titan Species existing way before humans did in the world he lives in. I dont doubt for a second medieval knights know of Godzilla and the other monsters like Rodan Mothra and King Ghidorah.
I really wished that they could make this film. Sure in other films we see it takes place in the present time when titans were unleashed and causing chaos and Humanity are struggling to fight back. But I wanna see where it takes place back in time we're the Egyptian, vikings, Dark Ages, Aztecs, and in China that was way in the past. I wanna see that the people would coexist with the titans, that they don't feel fear but more like majestic and curious that they would encounter a titan. That they would worship them, or they would run away that they would see them as a threat. And they would think of them as God's but as a form of a giant monster.
Because in the film it really shows that painting by the people to show what they really saw that was very long time ago. That they just think that is just a myth, but it turns out they were real.
I mean think about it, this could actually work for the Monsterverse franchise.
Or how about a godzilla movie set in ancient Japan or a movie where he lands on ancient Hawaii or a movie where he encounters Native Americans
That was pretty cool. I really liked what you had the fox do and the response from Godzilla. Plus, the addition of the echoes that followed. Wish I had the know -how, patience, and time to do something like that. Kudos to you!
You sir, have gotten yourself a new subscriber, keep up the good work!
Now this is spectacular! This Man made a wise choice he knows who his God/King is It gives me classic Medieval movie vibes!
This Green Knight film was a trip. Great edit with Godzilla. Looks like it could be from the original. 👍👍
So this is the dragon they speak of in the olden days, ye who spits breaths of blue
Oh man, now I really want this fairytale!!!
Not knowing this was CG I thought for a few seconds that this was a clip for a new Godzilla movie.
One with a kinder, gentler Godzilla.
One where Tokyo could finally breathe a sigh of relief!
You should definitely check out the film this clip is from. The Green Knight. It’s a masterpiece.
I like it. it isn't perfect, but it is well made enough for an assignment. That being said. this is a perfect depiction of Godzilla's relationship with humanity. Godzilla is actually indifferent to us. The only time he directly interacts with us is generally to remind us of our place in the natural order. IE: Tokyo. Outside of those select occasions, he does not see us as a threat. but more of a nuisance., and sometimes as a beneficial ally when it suits him.
Contrary to popular belief, Godzilla does not protect humanity, he only protects his status as the Alpha. He doesn't fight the other monsters because he is saving us or protecting us. he is merely meeting a challenge, addressing a threat, or protecting the balance.
I would LOVE to see the titans mingle with ancient humns during medieval or ancient times! 😳
Maybe we are getting one soon just maybe just not now who knows
Really amazing stuff there. Love the old school roar
That last scene of Godzilla being blended along the mist as a huge gigantic figure, unclear whether it's going or coming in which direction while them just moving forward across this vast Barren land towards that misty figure Godzilla itself makes this scene even more ominous with some kinda Jurassic world t-rex feel.
Beautifully done, Mr Giermann you have a bright future ahead of you.
Oh my *GOD* - I'm also a 3D animator and 3D artist, the fact that you did this in 48 hours is AMAZING. It was extremely clever to use the fog to blend Godzilla more realistically into the environment!
If you ever go big on TH-cam (which you may, considering how cool this video is), please remember this: do your art for yourself and your passion, never for the views it gets you. I had over half a million followers on Tiktok 3 years ago and it really destroyed my love for my own art because I started doing it for the attention it got me. Learn from my mistake, don't look at the viewcounts or likes- look at how your art makes your own heart glow. That's the most important thing, in the end. It's been 3 years, and I'm still struggling to get the flame I had before internet fame back. Don't let yours get taken from you.
Thank you man, your words mean a lot. Indeed I know exactly what you mean and I try to find an intermediate path. Of course audience inspires you to do things or art in a different way then you would have expect it. So I really hope you´ll find the spark again! I had the same feeling with Instagram, not even close as much follower as you have, but on IG there are similar trends to do art in a specific way I don´t really like. So like Rick Rubin said in his book: Audience comes last. I try to remember. :)
Yknow you’d usually expect dragons or unicorns in these types of movies but Godzilla works just as well if not better, also the scenery and the acting was exceptionally well executed, mind you I liked the fox, the animation for the fox and Godzilla were both exceptional, good work man I hope too see more from you in the future
Yeah it's one of the things that shocks me everytime. Throw Godzilla in any scenario and it just works. It still bothers me how there are People that prefer to bicker about it and prefered if Goji sticked to one side, i mean why are they putting him in a box, we should appreciate his many sides not just one.
The fox was in the original movie
I love the Green Knight. It's not for everyone, but to me it was a wonderfully memorable horror-esque movie. And your animation here is absolutely seamless. Godzilla actually feels like a part of this setting. One could almost think of a what if story where the Questing Beast from the Arthurian legends was just Godzilla.
Impressively calm fox that one :P
Nah man this is insane, want me to share it? Amazing work!
Thank you so much. Sure, it would be a great pleasure if you would share that on your channel!
This looks absolutely insane! As someone hoping to do something like this in the future, I applaud you 👏
This is absolutely amazing. Beautiful story. And so well made. Thank you so much for sharing.
All you needed was a CGI Graham Chapman saying "I am Arthur, King of the Britains."
Great Work , Cool Video .
Thank you so much!
Masterpiece fam respect I felt dat scene da music the acting the fox howl and Godzillaz roar on point keep doin you 💯💯💯
I walked into this video blind, not bothering to read the description first. Impressive work. This is a setting I like to see explored in how cultures from history interacted with titans like Godzilla.
This is absolutely awesome!
Holy shit! 48 hours? Man warner should hire you to make a godzilla movie
Yes, that would be awesome ❤...or Weta Digital. 😊
Wow! Very interesting…loved seeing Zilla respond to the fox howls!

Excellent work by the artist. Kudos. Bump.
Thanks a lot!
Impressive! Well done. I grew up watching Godzilla movies throughout the 70's. I love it!
When the algorithm picks this channel up...
This is AMAZING!! I love how you blended Arthurian movies like "The Green Knight" with Godzilla. Godzilla could totally fit in any setting, be it Medieval fantasy or sci-fi or anything. It's awesome! Great job!
If you would have told me this is a clip from that Monarch TV series, I would have believed you.
Godsyummm that is crazy, id love to see a medival kaiju movie like this 💯💯💯💯
Godzilla: Wha...you want to ride on my shoulder? Man, you watch too many Kong cartoons...
For some reason, this conjured an image in my head:
A knight facing off against Godzilla, and he's thinking:
"Not that dragon! Not this knight!"
Legendary should hire this guy or atleast recognise his efforts
Love this. I hope to see more ❤
Wow, this is VERY well done, tip of the cap.
Dude, make no mistake and do not worry...this was fucking outright fantastic!
48 hours?? I'm now scared to death to see what you could do with 72 hours...with no rushing it.
Excellent work and the original movie...AWESOME!... watching this clip, Godzilla walking alone through the valley makes me excited and afraid...it reminds me when my mom took my two little siblings and me to have a trip anywhere without my dad because he was working all day...I don't know why, but I had the same feeling watching this video.
Let me say this, and as someone who is a huge Godzilla junkie, this was so perfectly executed and very well done. You captured the presence that Godzilla has with out needing destruction. The music was very fitting and fog served multiple purposes such as per the setting and also as a mechanical element in the editing process. A+ all the way. I don’t know what possessed you to do this to begin with but I sure hope you continue to make more.
This looks amazing! If you're able to, you should do more Godzilla stuff...The new Godzilla x Kong trailer dropped not too long ago so this would be a trending topic for a while and the youtube algorithm will push your work to more people!
2nd this. Soooooo down for seeing more
An entrance exam is one thing, however and in the long run, there would be an issue with copyrights. Consider that it was only late this year that Disney's Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse entered the public domain. The delay was a mere 95 years.
It's not only the technical excellence of this edit, but your imagination that brought it to life. CGI is just a tool, but when used by someone with a creative mind, this tool brings imagination to reality. I've shared you video, I hope in some small way it helps you. Very well done indeed.
This....was fricken good.
Thank you!
Well....this is ONE way to get me to see this movie.
Nothing beats asking Godzilla for a ride on his shoulder. Very well done! I couldn’t quite make out exactly what he asked because of the music and Godzilla’s voice but I think he asked what direction he was headed and to cross the valley on his shoulder or something like that.
The original roar...such a nice touch
Good job. I have seen The Green Knight and the original scene with the giants was an otherly worldly, but replacing it with Godzilla, it changed our perception of the kaiju. All he wanted was peace.
there is an atmosphere like shadow of colossus (PS2/PS4 game remakster) excellent 👍
fox just howl?
Fantastic work! Godzilla going for a stroll through what looks like Scotland (maybe he is the original Loch Ness Monster???) and says hello to a dude and his pet fox. So many story possibilities here!
I absolutely adore this video, it has amazing potential. Godzilla being in a medieval world that hasn’t been explored yet in the monster verse or the Godzilla franchise as a whole. Godzilla has lived for millions of years so it would be amazing to see the world he has seen before all of the cities and destruction that was coursed throughout the 19th-21st century. Keep up with these amazing videos because this is just beautiful.
Even the myths of dragons and sea creatures that terrorized the world could have arisen because of sightings of Godzilla and other Kaijus
This is the movie we all want to see… ❤amazing! Imagine how this could be. Thanks for the share and hard work.

Could you imagine a prequel godzilla film that shows godzilla and and its many prehistoric monsters in the times before and how Atlantis and other ancient human civilization had coexisted with titans? It could end in the tragic submerging of Atlantis just to.see how it happened...that would be sick
i got a similar vibe in dune with how they revere the sandworm. i also got chills in couple of predator movies where a native american archer or a samurai squares off against a predator. (kinda want a movie where vikings face off against a predator, a gritty movie like the show vikings)
