Good work you two..!! I still can't comprehend why virtually every 'abandoned' building is trashed, broken, smashed and spray painted. What the hell is the mindset of people who do this? And it's not just teens like many people think, there is no shortage of adult assholes who are also complicit.
There is a major amount of valuable things (picture frames, cabinets, etc.); even those spa chairs could be easily restored, and the ones in this video are in the $2,000 to $3,000 range when new! Theft I can understand, but just smashing things is stupid! Maybe someone will have a simple idea; lots of the decent furniture that's left could be donated to those who really need some help?!
I went to a wedding and this place in April of 2007. We partied like rock stars for a week at that place had to take the ferry boat back to downtown Savannah several times to score party favors for myself and the rest of the wedding party. It was one best weddings and reception parties I have ever been to...
This is just so sad, I mean I came down to take care of my mom with little to no savings after she suffered a stroke so I'm sleeping on a twin mattress on the floor and all those beds there just going to waste smh, ppl could have used those, America's waste is disgusting! Smfh...

What's sad is the destruction of the black community that thrived there for so long, speaking Gullah and related to Sierra Leone. You can see their colorful life in the illustrations of Jonathan Green, who grew up there, and read about it in Pat Conroy's book, The Water Is Wide". He taught school there once. Their small houses are fixed up now as tourist attractions. Where did they go, forced out by resort builders? People speaking Gullah and telling their story are on TH-cam.

I saw the intro just now and almost spit out my drink. I knew where you were before you said it. We joined Melrose in the 1980s and spent a couple weeks there every summer and a week in Winter. The place was amazing for a kid. You drove golf carts around.Crabbed, fished, ate great food, played golf, explored. It was incredible. But by the late 90s it was already falling apart and we dropped our membership
My family owns a house on the island in Haig Point.

Why couldn't they reuse/repurpose the multitude of beds, linens, furniture, etc...instead leaving it to vandals and decay? So much waste so so much!!
From what I understand "urban explorers" are not allowed to remove anything from these locations. Even though the places are abandoned It is technically theft, since it doesn't belong to them.

A lot of things disintegrated about that time. We were evicted from our house the year anti-Christ Obama took office and we were stuck in a two bedroom walk-up until the very month Trump became President. It's like chains of darkness came off the land. Hope we can do it again. ☺️

Wow this place had some pretty high-end furnishings in it at one time. Too bad the vandals had to get in and destroy most of it. that sickens me when vandals come a callin! no i will tell you what those guys said to me! somehow my son were friends with their childrens friends or something like that, when they came to me, they said we have an opportunity of a lifetime, all i would have to do is buy ten shares of this great resort and for one year, would be free to travel back and forth to this resort, and i asked where it was at and they said "Daufuskie Island, South Carolina, the Melrose Resort". and i was like um i couldnt travel i have a young son, and they said that is ok bring him with that he would have a good time, and they showed me those same papers, and i thought it looked legit, but i didnt have ten thousand dollars for each share. but they insisted i get on with this wonderful opportunity, it would be worth my time and money...blah blah blah.. i told them let me think about it, and i didnt know they would ever come back and six months later they came back to my house and asked if i thought about it and i was like no sorry, i just dont have the money, and they pressured me and kept asking me if i can take out loans at the bank, and i said no i am only renting and it got to a point to where i threatened to call the police and they left.

I was working there as a barman in the various bars on the resort 20 years ago. I can't believe what happened to this place.

The SEC won’t be writing the final chapter for this failed seaside vacation getaway. The once-posh getaway, which the government described as being in “decrepit” shape, is now owned by a private lender that lost more than $27 million in the resort’s latest bankruptcy. It has hired a real estate firm to market the property.
The biggest problem is that it will cost far more to clean up the decaying and damaged existing buildings than to build new construction. It's just one more example of bankrupted ethics and no morals.
@@watershed44 surely it must be a matter of good business sense to make it in the resort world. how much help would it take just to break even? it is a mystery to me! imagine the number of staff alone. utilities. on and on. yowzers!

That is a fantastic island...too bad greed causes people to go too far. The resort was beautifully built and furnished, and should have been profitable without having to rip people off. You were messing with us and those phones man...my jaw dropped when you left the first one off it’s hook. I could live on an island like that, the golf carts and cottages all the same reminded me of the old TV series, “The Prisoner”...it had something of that feel about it.
Nice job showing us what is there, but if they don’t get on it very soon it’s going to be well beyond repair. I wonder if Trump ever played this course. Happy Solstice day...we made it through the longest night again, thanks...and stay safe and happy out there.🖤🇨🇦

What I do not understand is why either there couldn't have been legitimate investors buy this resort and keep it in business OR at least why wasn't a liquidation firm hired to sell all of the content (mattresses, sofas, chairs, desks, tables, lamps, artwork, etc.) back when the resort went bankrupt and recoup at least some money for the scammed investors. Now it's basically all worthless junk. Too bad and so sad.

A great accomplishment that is now yesterday's news. Daufuski, and you did pronounce it correctly, has a fascinating history. Melrose Resort offered the locals opportunities but with progress came change.
I visited Melrose several times and it was indeed reminiscent of the old South. Court records, in Beaufort County, are a bit vague concerning the rise and fall of Melrose.
I have found your channel a step above others featuring similar content. So I guess it is time to to become a patreon. Merry Christmas

I don’t think the phones really worked and were so loud. Isn’t that their signature move? Finding a “live” phone and putting it back on the hook? This would be something like that. They add the audio after. That’s how I interpreted it. Am I right, RNK ALL DAY? Also I was SO impressed w the intro! I don’t know about editing software, but wow very sophisticated. You guys aren’t playin, r u? And those drone shots? OFF THE HOOK! Pun intended. I guess that’s how u did it. Or maybe u have jet packs. Probably do)
