Enjoyed this video about to pick up the same bike in prestine condition. Looked like a absolute headache towards the end but you got it done👌I’ve had brand new carburetors cause a no start issue when in doubt always look at the carb as suspect number 1 until proven otherwise 😂😂thanks for the professional detail and effort you put into your vid’s much appreciated
I miss this frame always found the riders triangle to be great on this bike. And the frame to be thin between the legs... One thing to watch out for tho is the free floating pistons inside the forks. They love to blow up lol. Zeta make a solid aluminum one.. Money well spent. 👍🏻
The carb mid body gasket can cause these sort of issues once they get some age on them. Between that and the harsh cleaning solvents most people use can damage the gasket. I've built enough FCR's to know when they get some age on them they get really flat and don't seal properly which can cause air leaks. These 4 strokes also do not want to start and run if the idle isn't turned up correctly. Best of luck. Keep up the videos, they're interesting and something can always be learned from them.
Yeah, I started taking it apart to get deeper into it but my tamper torx broke on the first bolt so I gave up on it. I have two complete rebuild kits on hand. I was to frustrated to deal with the carb so I put another one I had laying around. I’ve just never run into a situation where an engine wouldn’t start even introducing fuel from an external source. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
@@restoroosterohv im currently in the middle of a 2008 crf 450 rebuild that has the EXACT issue. Def going to try this. Fuel directly into engine and it wont start, timing compression, valves and spark is perfect
Really great video as always. I’ve been working up the courage to start buying used dirt bikes and fixing them up and your channel has really inspired me a lot. I was wondering if you would mind sharing the costs on all the parts you put into your projects. I realize you already do a lot of extra work just moving the camera and editing, but even just a rough estimation of the costs would be really great to know. Thank you!
Appreciate you. I was thinking about doing something along those lines including more info on the builds including costs and selling prices as a separate members perk.
I had an issue after rebuilding a 2013 Yz450f where it would not kick start, but it would always bump start. The issue is that the cam markings should not match up with TDC marker, they should match up with 23 degrees ATDC (second marker on flywheel). After that it kick starts every time. (used the manual to correct the issue). They are not all times the same!!.
I almost never use the flywheel marks for finding top dead center. I use a straw or a screwdriver down a spark plug hole and I know 100% that Im on top dead center. The manual will tell you to look at the timing mark
Hi mate awesome work 👍 could you help me I’ve just fully rebuilt a 09 rmz250 put oil in and it kicked straight up, I put coolant in and it just went straight into engine 😢 I’ve stripped engine down again and cannot see anything wrong plz help 😂👍
That is most likely due to a bad head gasket, warped head, cracked head or cylinder. A cylinder leak test will help you determine the cause. Bad water pump seal can potentially let coolant into the engine oil as well.
I have a 07 yz250f that will run fine but the shifter is stuck and won’t let the sprocket rotate, not sure what the issue is. The bike kicks over fine and runs great.. just won’t shift. I just followed you and thought maybe your experience could help point me in the right direction.
Technically true however they do retain grease in the bearing. Moreover, greasing the outside of the seals won’t really advance the bearing’s lifespan, haha. Thanks for your comment.
About to replace piston rings and valves on a 2002 yz250 was told that was all that was wrong with it you got any pointers on what else may need to be replaced as well
It’s more than just throwing a set of piston rings in, that’s what everybody says in their ad. If it was that easy, they would just do it. The piston and the cylinder would need to be measured and replaced if necessary. If you are replacing with Steel valves, the springs will need to be replaced as well along with new seals. Full inspection of the bottom end to be sure there is no wear should also be done.
Where is the rust and how bad is it? If it is just light surface, rust, a wheel brighter acid does a pretty good job. If it’s pitted and flaking rust, it needs to be replaced.
This video was amazing and informative! But please stop pumping the throttle 😂 it only works when you kick the bike and pump the throttle. Your just lifting and lowered the slide it's not doing any sort of priming.
Not sure if you are used to working on 2 strokes but these 4 stroke carbs are equipped with an accelerator pump similar to an automobile carburetor. Every time the throttle is activated, a stream of fuel is injected into the throat of the carb through a small nozzle to enrich the incoming air. This is done to eliminate a lean condition that would occur upon fast throttle openings on these machines. Hope that helps.
Love you working on older bikes
Thank you for your comment and for watching
I once had a carb off at least ten times on a old NX 250 before i figured out what the problem was , I feel your pain. This was another great video !
Carbs (bikes and food) are not my strong suit. Thank you for your support.
Felt your pain on that one , was cursing at it myself lol.
Great video
Haha, thanks. Get ‘em sometimes. The 2010 kx250f was a bit of a pita as well.

Tokyo mods makes a nice $9 aftermarket Allen screw bolt kit for the FCR Flatside carb bowl screws… I will never look back.
Thanks for the info. The Tusk rebuild kits come with new OEM style screws that usually work out pretty good
the fcr deserves it's own 45 minutes video...
Agreed, I will do one the next chance I get

Maybe a bent shift shaft? Maybe something just stuck internally?

my bike 2007 wont crank either and we are thinking about doing a top end rebuild
Do all of your standard checks before tearing it completely down (fuel, spark and compression). Valve clearances are critical.
@@restoroosterohv we got everything except compression
@dieselalltheway464 check your valve clearance first

Your best bet would be to see if anyone is parting one near you on Marketplace or looking at eBay where you will definitely be able to get one.
