  • Shower heads are now sold with water flow restrictor valve installed. If your shower head does not have a removable flow restrictor valve, then see my other video that shows how to drill the plastic restrictor valve out • Increase Shower Water ... .You can remove the flow restrictor valve to increase your shower water pressure very easily, right now. This video will show you how to remove the shower water flow pressure restrictor valve. Removal is very easy. Once you remove the restrictor valve from your shower you will enjoy much better water pressure. There are a few other tips in this video that will show you how to increase the performance of your shower head and get better pressure of water flow.
    Don't use thread sealant tape between the connection of the hand held shower and hose. The rubber/nitrile washer is all that is needed. Most hand held shower units are made of plastic nowadays. You can split the plastic nut if you put extra material between the threads. (I just had one split the other day from normal use). The rule in plumbing is if there is a washer then don't use sealant. Typically the threads with washers are standard straight threads unlike tapered pipe threads. You can use sealant on tapered pipe threads. The 1/2" pipe thread coming out of the wall for the shower head is tapered pipe threads so that is where you can use the PTFE thread tape.

    you just saved me an unnecessary purchase. I was originally gonna buy a new showerhead considering our current one was no good- living in Texas, especially during the summer, means nothing but a trickle of water comes out of our shower. Instead, I decided to see if there were any alternatives. I came across this video, gave it a shot, and boom. Worked like a charm. Best water pressure I've had in years

  • @zetec7
    @zetec7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +208

    I'll never understand the "save us from ourselves" pundits who seem to think that having to take a 15 minute shower with almost no pressure is better than a 5 minute shower with twice the pressure. The "trickle" shower actually uses MORE water than a full-pressure one. Save us from do-gooders who enact laws to cure non-existent problems & without actually researching to see if it needs fixing...or whether the "fix" is worse than the problem. Anyway, thanks for the video!! I just took apart my shower wand set and eventually found the restrictor, hidden inside the wand hanger section. Despite all my water pressure, the tiny little restrictor hole (less than 1/8" diameter) was forcing a lot of water out the faucet, rather than out the shower head. Not anymore!!

      Exactly,
      I spent more time looking for soap to rinse off than actual bathing. This water restricter removal information should be in the installation instructions, but I'm sure the manufacturers aren't allowed to inform the public even if they wanted to.

      Exactly! Wouldn't want to run afoul of those federal regulations, would we? LOL I just showered with my newly-de-restricted shower head - thorough shower in 4 minutes...used to take 15 - 20 minutes.

      Thank you for not mentioning that group by the more real name. I don't want our fine government telling me how to live, let alone how to bath or poop... But, we know they are trying to. And, I don't know about you, but... My bathroom is more private than my bedroom. ;-)

    Oh this was EXACTLY what I needed... I've been living in this house for 1.5 years and the water pressure (even after changing head) always bothered me and this was the perfect (and quick) fix
    I even went to our kitchen sink which basically dribbled water and applied the same method and now I'm able to fill the kettle without going for a nap
    Thanks again

    • @stephanierobinette4425

      So guess everything has a restrictive device. Kitchen water sink. Drives me batty. Where is the restriction thing on the sinks. ? Thanks

    • @EmitRelevart
      @EmitRelevart 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stephanierobinette4425 The very end of the tap where the water comes out is removable. Unscrew it and inside you'll see the restrictor in there. Just pop it out and screw the tap end back on.
      After following the instructions in this video for the shower head, I too went around the house and removed the rest. Man, what a difference. No more waiting forever for the hot water to get hot (or the cold to get cold) and rinsing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher now just takes a few seconds, instead of standing there forever. And as the OP pointed out, filling the kettle is now done in a flash!

    Very helpful! I texted my new landlord today after my first shower was pitiful and took forever to get shampoo out of my hair. OMGOD!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LITERALLY LOOOOVVVEEE YOU FOR THIS!!!!
    I've been having miserable showers for about a year-and-a-half, and I thought it was due to the new one handle faucet the building management had a plumber install in my shower.

    But after watching this video and following the steps showing how to remove all the water restrictor valves, I simply can't describe how friggin relieved I am to have a proper shower now!!!
    I have longer hair so you can imagine how frustrating it was for me to try and get the shampoo and the conditioner out every single time! It was simply miserable.

    Today I followed this great video and it worked, it just required a slight modification to a brand new Moen shower head, really helped to learn that the restrictor valve is in the inlet arm of the unit, no need to mess with the shower head. In my case there was just room to insert a twisted stiff wire with a hooked end under the cross of the plastic restrictor and pull hard, it just popped out in one piece. Done deal, rescrewed the head unit onto its hose and now have a real shower, not a poor excuse of one. The piece that popped out was obviously just pushed in originally, its a circular shaped plastic piece with a cross that seems to be there for the extraction option to perform, just pull hard with that hooked wire under the plastic cross of the restrictor and you win.

  • @JB-3794
    @JB-3794 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes! 😊 You clever man. Sometimes it takes so long to take a shower that I probably use the same amount of water with or without the restriction. 🤔 With a low water flow, it takes lots of extra time to rinse shampoo and conditioner from hair, and lots of extra time to get the soap off the body. I've changed out my shower head 3 or 4 times, hoping for improvement. My current shower head has a twist to make available 4 or 5 choices, so I can still switch to low when needed, even if I decide to remove the restriction.

    Thanks to you my family can now shower the soap off faster and massage painful arthritic lower back and hips. Some other Content Creators say only to remove O-Ring and leave 2nd restrictor in place GARBAGE!!! Your way is the best way😄😍😃🚿.

    I purchased that exact shower head and was surprised how weak the flow was. I couldn’t believe it and was so disappointed. My old shower head was so much better. But I’m now going to try this fix out and hopefully I won’t have to return this unit

      more holes means lower but more even flow. yes, smaller showerhead give a faster stronger flow rate.

    Thanks for these great tips...I mean it! Just bought a Moen showerhead yesterday, the Magnatek type and was worrying about how much water could flow from it. We're on a well, so I don't feel so terrible about pulling the restricter valve. THUMBS UP!!

    I just took a shower with this exact hand held shower massage. My old hand held shower massage I had great and wonderful water pressure.
    With this brand new one, which is the exact one you have in your video, it is like being sprinkled on by a light rain mist.
    Thank you for this information.

    I had low water pressure for years and try everything. After 25 years I wanted my main water value changed. My plumber shut off the water from the meter which was at curb. Bingo, he told me the valve was not open all the way. What a difference!

    Thank u!!!! Just bought a new shower head & the restrictor was taking so much space the brand new head was leaking from the connection after multiple tapings & tightening. Finally I checked u tube thinking 🤔 something not right. Saw ur video removed that damn thing & not only is the shower great but no leakage. I’m guessing the restrictor puts more pressure on the connection. Great video

    Found the water flow limiter by accident. It's actually at the end of

    Was good!... and I sat though the whole thing (rare for me)!
    Only thing that erked me... you didnt show the after! So you went through all the effort and put together a good vid but didnt show us the new flow without the restrictor :(

      That would certainly be hard to see (tell) from his simply showing spray on video.
      Niagara Falls is the same; when that water volume was reduced by nearly half, the look of the falls did not change.
      Visitors to the attraction were unaware of any diversion of water; to the power generating plant.
      Have A Nice Day.
