      @@Granto-ni9qw If you have an older house it maybe the feed pipe is depositing rust into the shower head directly and through the hot water tank. You can replace the shower head as they aren't so expensive, or try and blast it from the shower head in reverse and see what comes out. I have heard you can use WD-40 just spraying it on the shower head and its openings and this will reduce the blockage. Best to do this with a rag to catch the rusty bits that come out when you turn the shower on for the first time. If its not rust then this had been a useless reply for which I apologise.

    I've been having poor shower pressure for two years in my house. A handyman came over and said that it was plumbing problema and that the whole wall of the shower would have to be removed as it was problem inside. I watched 1 and a half minute of this video, used a nail clipper and in less than 5 minutes solved problem that nobody could in 2 years. God I love the internet.

    This fix is especially valuable when switching from a showerhead with few holes to one with many. More holes will reduce the water pressure, making the shower feel like rain drops and not a forceful stream. Removing all restrictors is the only thing you can do at the new showerhead to try to recover the same force.

    I completely agree with the video. I didn't even think about just pulling the restrictor out completely, last year I was able to drill a hole in my restrictor and made a world of difference. My tankless water heater has a flow control that doesn't kick on the heater until it meets a certain flow. My shower head was not allowing it to kick on so drilling the hole not only helped with the water heater being able to kick on and stay on, but it helped drastically with the shower pressure. Do it, you won't regret it.

      If your showerhead changed to lower pressure on its own, it was probably caused by sediment or debris. By removing the restrictor, you accomplished two things - you removed the accumulation AND you opened the interface to handle the full flow from your inlet pipe. Good job!

  • @AllanDaemon
    @AllanDaemon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    In Brazil these restrictors are optional. They came in the package with the shower but it's up to the installer use it or not. In the instructions, they say you want to use it when the income water pressure is too high, even specifying the pressure, but most of the time nobody installs them because it's rare to need them.

    Please note that many shower valves (controls for the shower) also have flow restrictors, so removing the one at the head doesn't always give you full pressure. I seem to recall Speakman still sells some mixing valves that don't have restrictors built in, but most other manufacturers do.

    Just recently moved to a older house in MA and had bad pressure when I upgraded the showehead.(irony being home owner before must have been aware of this already) BUT Between this and another washer inside the spigot it was a massive difference! However I did reinstall the restricting device back to the hand held because I found the added pressure made the jet settings a little to aggressive for my small shower area to contain XD super helpful vid and just had the best shower since I have moved thanks to your quick fix within literal 10 minutes of wishing it could be better!

    For anyone who can't remove the restrictor, here's a tip. My restrictor had a metal ring above it that prevented it from coming out. If you have the same problem all you need to do is drill a hole through the plastic center and tear it out piece by piece with needle nose pliers.

    Don't know if this has been mentioned, but it's important to note that the rubber O-ring in the green restrictor can be removed to improve pressure at the head also without full removing the restrictor. This will likely give you pressure in the middle of fully removing the green piece and not removing anything.
    Just a thought.

    • @M_Ladd

      When you start to remove '0' rings and rubber washers, you cause leaks! They are there for a reason.

    • @therising1
      @therising1 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@M_Ladd no, the o ring in the restrictor has nothing to do with sealing for a leak. It is part of the flow reducer.

    I removed the restrictor in my shower head and actually had to go and buy one of those valves that lets you shut off or reduce the flow some. With the restrictor it was pretty weak but without the restrictor it was like standing under a waterfall which is nice sometimes but just overkill most times. With the valve I could fine-tune it to be just right.

    Thanks for showing us had no idea just bought 2 shower heads and they sucked little water flow. In fact one shower head was the exact same one you had. The only weird thing is both of the shower heads I had were different did not have anything to pull on. So I used a drill to make a huge hole in the plastic worked the same thank you. I think they are changing it to make it harder to remove. Then again I live in California.

    My landlord had a new Moen head installed a few months ago. This morning I woke up and decided I've had enough low pressure haha. It was so bad half the water came out of the lower tub faucet. So much for "water conservation." Faster showers equals less water used, and I take 2 minute showers. With more pressure that will be knocked down to 1 minute.
    Thanks for the video! Made my life better!

    After years of noisy squealing pipes i said to the Mrs I would change out all the tap washers , well I changed a couple and realised I would have to change the spindles too. I said in that case "we might as well add new taps and be done with it for a few years" and changed them over . when finished it looked great and I eagerly turned on the shower only to find it would not get hot , out to the gas meter box to check the pilot light... it was instantaneous duh lol . Next stop was the internet and after a few searches that insisting a new shower head was required I saw your video and now have a hot shower that triggers the instant gas and has pressure which keeps the wife very happy.
    thankyou for sharing what now seems such an obvious solution but a greatly appreciated one too .
