Great video; love it. The only thing I would say when using a fabric with a printed design (repeat pattern) make sure to mach the design when joining/gluing the two together on the frame. Thanks for sharing.

I did a lampshade project very much like this almost 30 years ago. If hot glue existed, I did not know of it. Instead, I found Tacky Glue. I bought plain colored bias tape and used the Tacky Glue to wrap each and every rib on my lamp shade frame tightly. In doing this, I gave myself a surface to glue my panels to. I then waited at least a day for the ribs to dry.
The next step was to glue on the top and right side of every panel to the cloth on the ribs. I then let those dry overnight. The next day, I could glue the bottoms and left sides. The left sides were glued to the right side of the panel next to them. Once the panels were all dry, I trimmed up close to the glue and then covered every seam with fancy rick-rack. I used bridal fabric because mine was a formal lampshade, and on the bottom edge, I glued a 4" fringe. It has held up all these years, and no one could ever tell that it was made this way.

YES!!! Thank you Mark. I finally find a tutorial for this particular type of lamp shade and it's perfect for the print on the fabric I want to use. All the other how-to's I looked at are the typical trace the shade on paper then on the fabric and just would not have worked, so thank you. Lol I felt like a dummy when I saw your video and thought "DUH" so simple. You're awsome

I've searched you tube to learn how to cover a shade shaped like yours, to no avail. BUT, then I found you. You made it so clear, I'm about to go cut out my material, after I measure it. I love love love your material and style with the trim you chose. Mine is quite different. I'm attempting organza, then cover half of that with lace. This is for my niece's shabby chic bedroom. I have tiny roses and lots of embellishments with double lace trim and top it off with a white boa to give it some teenage bling. It's all white, except pale pink organza and different shades of pink roses. My shade is exactly same shape as yours. Be rooting for me, I need all the help I can get! lol I'll send you a picture of it (if it turns out as good as I'm hoping for). Thanks for this video, couldn't have done it without you.

Since watching this video, I've looked for items I could use for the fabric to cover the lamp shade with. I love the way yours turned out. I do like something different and yours definitely fit the bill. I found several items at my thrift store and I admit I didn't give items enough of a look see to use for shades, but what will change on my future thrift store jaunts. I will also check out the fabric stores as well. I bought a wonderful book on recovering lampshades, but your video is just outstanding. I will check out your book also. If your book has ideas like this, I can't go wrong. Another thing about your lampshade is that those lampshades are perfect for some of these vintage lamps that can be found. I am always on the lookout for those too. Some are quite valuable.

Thank you are the 1st person that actually showed removing the old fabric! I would like to cover some lampshades, It's easier but not wise. Patterns, textures, unsecured seams, and laying materials with adhesive spray can raise the risk of fire hazards. Patterns may show through, textured old shades make for an uneven and un-smooth application with adhertion issues that chould be complicated by loose seams and damaged facets. Removing it is just the best route to take 😉 Good job! And thank you 💝

You're so welcome. You can always use a white layer underneath, too. Just cut both at the same time.

We have a 10 bulb chandelier that we recently put LED bulbs in. The light it gives off is quite 'cold', so I thought I would need to buy all new chandelier shades in a red colour to warm it up! Now I can just make them! FAB!!! I am going fabric shopping now!

I watched at least ten lamp shade covering videos. Your video is wonderful. My kids say I am a hoarder. Actually I am a crafter who enjoys what I do. Now in addition to all the wreaths I have made and am giving away there will also be lamp shades. I will never pass a discarded one again. Thanks for making my day. Lots of love to you.

I'm so damn proud of you! Once you make one, you'll start covering all of your shades even if they don't need it OR you'll find old shades on the street and give them makeovers! If you have a second, I'd love to know what you think of my latest DIY...A Van Gogh inspired mirror. th-cam.com/video/ehgUHam07Fk/w-d-xo.html

Honestly, it's the only way I'll put a lampshade in my house. I recover all of them to match the room.

Thank you so much Mark! I have a lampshade that I have been saving for sometime. The silk lining is badly torn and the whole shade looks so tattered, but I love the shape of it. In fact, the shape of the shade is very much like yours. After seeing your instructional video I can hardly wait to buy just the right fabric, ribbon and trim to coordinate with it's vintage base. You are such an inspiration!

It is and you can line it with a white fabric if you want to. Just make the same pattern in white and apply it first. Check out my Patreon for all kinds of other ideas. www.patreon.com/MarkMontano
