This is an interesting watch when you take into account your last video on game improvement vs blade and the perceived gains/losses and variances with strike. The 10th hole club swap after the miss hit that Dan has and your comments after are interesting. What are your thoughts now with the data you now have following the club test? Would Coach really gain if ego was dropped and he took on the “extra help” of the game improvers over his blades?

When my round turns to rubbish, I simply concentrate on having fun with my friends. Golf isn't my job, it's my recreation. A few weeks ago I played the last 6 holes with just my 5w and it was such a ridiculous thing to do that we all had a good laugh.

I drop back to an 80 % swing and try and keep it on the short stuff because it's usually getting in around the trees that causes my nightmare rounds. Either that or just keep banging away and blame my clubs, playing partners or greenkeeper. It couldn't be me.

One of the best tips was an old school lesson of the channel. Guy kept hitting it out of the heel of the club. Mark asked, “well gmhave you ever tried hitting it out of the toe?” The guy and me were dumbfounded. “Well no.... Never thought about it like that.” Where I wanted to strike it on the club vs swinging the club at the ball wasn’t even on my radar. Misses to the right are far and few between since then. Back to basics, where am I striking it... Strike is King, Brah!

A few years ago I had to go into hospital and spend a bit over a week there and walking around or looking at the people in the bed next to me put things into perspective for me and since then I’m a lot less angry on the golf course. I’m out in the fresh air and doing something that a lot of people would love to be doing.
During in bad rounds I try to find positives like if I’m driving well or sunk a good putt etc and I regularly say exactly what you mentioned before and that is I need these bad rounds to appreciate the good.
Don’t get me wrong I can still get cross at myself, but I don’t hang onto it like I used to.......great video😀👍

👍🏼 Nigel. I try to hang in there. Last week I started very poorly, +5 through 3 holes, then played even par over the last 15 to finish +5. One of my most satisfying rounds in quite a while. Thanks for the great content fellas!

Very good point Matt. If I'm not swinging well, I can revert to a different shorter, stabby swing that flies the ball lower and straighter to minimise issues, then rely on chipping and putting more.

I had a particularly bad round late last season where I was spending quite a bit of time looking for errand shots, we were also stuck behind a group, so rather than wait until a wood was safe to hit I took 7i off every tee and up to wedge distance so I couldn't be too far off and could keep pace up while still getting to play fairly regular shots. I didn't break any records but a few holes in I was striping my 7i and really making progress with it. It was actually quite a bit of fun without as much waiting between shots.

Up until recently, Coach has struggled hitting driver quit a bit, from what I have noticed. Since going to the yellow shafted driver his drives have improved quite a lot. Hitting it well. Not sure why, though. Perhaps more practice over the winter? To me, the most noticeable difference in his swing is much more wrist hinge in the take away. Just wondering if that is what Coach has been working on? Really happy to see Coach having more success with the big stick. Great videos, thanks guys.

Well played Coach - lots of good chat and lessons in that one for sure - if things aren't going as planned I default back to clubs and combinations I know will keep me in play and scoring - like 5 wood off the tee and rinkies from the fairway rather that trying to chase a score by forcing driver for example - good stuff as always chaps!

I can see Callaway bringing out the Lockey Launcher next Month, with a hidden back end to aid youthful ego!
I have learned not to get wound up by mistakes as then they last for many more holes. I try and think about my range practice and slowing things down in my mind, I also practice tempo changes to see the results so that I have an idea what I am doing.
Usually I look on the bottom of the driver which shows me my swing path of the tee peg, then set about correcting myself and getting the hips moving again.

I was in a bad mood afew days before and certainly messed my time practicing. Went today and with some good pointers had a belter of a time hitting the ball . Cannot wait to play on a green, already addiction is starting to kick in. Like ur style, with banter but also your knowledge of your golf from playing, tutorials and even reviews of clubs. (Titleist is my brand for sure lol) but also your points of view in honesty of problems within the golf industry. I.e taylormade or the fact having tech on the cliant while teaching is a no brainer to me. Good effort ..when am i gonna see you on the Sidmouth course?

I only play social golf and if I really think the round is unsalvageable, I,ll concede the game and then revert to practice mode , which pretty much means .... if I hit a poor shot I’ll have a second . It’s amazing how quickly your game returns when the 'opportunity' to have a second serve is played.

i used to rein back and try to control everything but that just resulted in an even worse experience, now if things are going badly i start to club down and really attack the holes this seems to negate the negative thoughts and really creates a positive change in attitude, if you are having a crap day anyway what do you have to lose by playing a bit more aggressively, my swing usually reappears and my mind usually clears, give it a go.

Like to think that I am not an outwardly stroppy golfer when it goes badly during a round - so i actually had a round with my friend who is a teaching pro and he stated that after a bad hole/holes that I go quiet and start rushing to my ball to make up for the bad shots... i never noticed that and since I have made a conscious effort to slow down when having a bad round and to go through the same process i do when playing well rather then going ' tunnel vision'

When game goes south: 1. Play each hole. 2. Slow down pre-shot visualization, watch out for sway, and slow my swing tempo. 3. Look for opportunities to try somethings out--different way of playing a hole, different tee club, play a hole entirely with mid iron, etc. 4. Never give up trying, stay positive, and be good company.

you are absolutely correct that their is too much math in golf...since you are a natural lefty playing righty, I would like to see how good you and coach are with a little one-handed short game match. Just to prove how a player leading with his dominate side can compete with a player that is leading with his non-dominate side. More about pitching 40-80 yards using the lead hand only. I would bet on the left hander would have the advantage. It's easier to teach a lefty to hit a back handed shot than to teach a righty to hit a left handed backhand....

So, what do I do, when game is going south? Usually I don’t care anymore, but try to play stints then on getting hold of the remaining holes and how to manage them the best of my skills. What shots, what clubs to hit and practicing an extra ball, whenever not to hold the group back or slow the play down too much.
For instance, hit into the water on a par-3, trying to hit it off the water. Hard job, and ended up into the same lie a foot next to where I last hit it. Then take a drop and try lobbying it close. And finally after twice hit underneath the ball and ended up having a seven. Then went back to the orginal situation, took relief from the penalty area and chipped the smart, stock shot ending up within a foot beneath the hole.
Happy-drops ofcourse, but were I in a competition, I’d get angry to myself and started playing better. I kind of need that angry or silent grumpy mood to play well, when first fumbled in the beginning. Hard not to try too much getting the strokes back, which you defenately shouldn’t do.

With the condition of the greens, putting is just about impossible. You both hit a bunch of putts that jumped several times (side to side) before the ball got anywhere near the hole.

In the past, if I were having a bad game I would just give up trying.
Now that I’m a way better player, if I have a few bad holes, I know that I can turn the game around
