    Hey Brian, my name is David. I’m a 50-year-old guy That was using drugs since i was 13 years old hard drugs. I’ve been sober for six years now I thought I would never ever be able to get sober. I can’t believe I hurt all the people in my life especially my wife and my three kids. It didn’t take therapy or rehab. I just cried out to God. I was on the verge, of losing my wife and my relationship with my kids. I just prayed to him that he would get me out of this deep rabbit hole because I needed help. I thought it would be tough getting sober, but I realized I was doing it for me not for my family. Like in the past, I would try for them once I did it for myself. I’ve never looked back like I said I’m six years sober now and listening to you really really helps and I think you’re very very funny. Keep up the great work, my guy I always look forward to you listening to you. God bless you for coming into my life. It helps to u.

    Ive been out on workmans comp since my injury at my nursing job in February, did light duty for a while then was released on full pay temporarily until my injury is treated, the process of getting treatment is horribly slow and made me anxious as to when / if i will be going back to bedside nursing or if i should start pursuing other avenues in nursing. The uncertainty is difficult and i have had to force myself to focus on recovering, pursuing hobbies to keep busy, be as productive as possible, and trust the process. Im a control freak so that's the hardest part. Hope all goes well and you definitely have placed yourself in the right mindset for whatever comes next. Best of luck to you

    Was your house paid off before house arrest? Is house arrest even an option if people aren’t financially independent?

      House arrest is not based on owning a home. Many people on house arrest are not coming from a financially stable situation as they have often lost a lot due to incarceration/related consequences. The sentence means that offenders have to stay largely confined to their homes (wherever they reside) and are only allowed to leave for specific reasons (generally medical and employment related) within a certain radius, in many states (20) monitored by GPS with an electronic ankle bracelet.

    • @tayzonday
      @tayzonday 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@meowntainlion Thanks for the info! I’m just assuming that it is broadly not possible to serve house arrest in a home that has been repossessed by a bank or for which there’s no residential lease . . . meaning the arrestee themselves (or some benefactor) is paying for the home. But maybe I’m missing something 🤷‍♂️

    • @meowntainlion
      @meowntainlion 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@tayzonday I imagine that's a question for an attorney or legal officer but if someone can't legally live somewhere, then no, they wouldn't serve house arrest there...wherever they moved to would need to be approved and would be their new place of house arrest. If a person is staying with friends or family and there is no lease, the place of house arrest is there - not sure how home repossession is comparable to residing at a home with no lease. Anyway, each person is reviewed and monitored uniquely and when things change, law enforcement reviews and considers several factors. (FYI I am a social worker)

    that is a long list of commitments for 90 days. I'm in the middle of a University class on Drugs; Use and Abuse. One of our assignments has been to give up a habit for 3 weeks and keep a daily journal on our progress plus a report at the end of the 3 weeks. I committed to stop eating after 7:00pm. It's been 2 weeks so far. I was shocked about my physical withdrawal symptoms and how hard this has been. I have years of unlearning bad habits. Along the way, I have changed my initial goal to no eating between 6:30pm and 10:00am the next day. So far, I have been successful. I'm too afraid to slip up because it was so hard to get to this point. I don't think I have the strength to start over. I want to join you in your 90 day challenge and continue in my no eating schedule from 6:30pm-10:00am to September 15.

    Careful for anxiety after you are free or just being completely overwhelmed out in the world.
    Keep it up, but don’t rest on your 3 year confinement sobriety laurels I agree 90 days and 90 meetings is a really great idea! You are setting yourself up for a rough time though. Keep it simple, don’t change too much too fast, because if you break one of the parts of the routine it is that much easier to break them all.
    Stay in the middle of the life boat.
    You survived, congrats! Keep it up 😉

      😅 it’s just kind of an inside joke. I can get obsessive about being minimalist. My sister had brought me a bunch of spices from her house because she was moving. I was complaining about having too many spices in my place and my friends were giving me a hard time about it 😂

    I'm so scared to withdraw from alcohol. Can i do it without rehab? I would rather keep it private and do it private. My kidneys are suffering, i already have crohns disease and other medical issues. Should i just taper? Im definitely ready! Im exhausted and so is my body! 😢🙏🏼✌🏻

    Hi Brian, great to meet your friend Kyle on this video.
    I thought it was interesting when you said that your Mental Autonomy was better now then when you were struggling with drugs. It is interesting that the bars created in your life from substances is stronger than the restraints that you face today.
    It is a great idea to create more structure in your life for the 90 day period up until September 17th. If you keep your mind active it will keep your mind off the struggle of waiting until the day they make their decision.

    Gaining wisdom, as you are doing, in relation to your situation is the best case scenario. My ears pricked up when I heard the word "perfect" for your plan. Perfection is a bit of a double edged sword. Another view to choose is making the commitment to always do your best at your endeavours. Aspiring for excellence is more gentle and forgiving, factoring in for our humanity than the goal of perfection. Just my two cents. You are doing amazingly well. I hope you are taking that in also. Really inspirational. So glad you chose to share the journey on the TH-cam.

    Curious if you have read Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Dan Pink. The 3 things we need for drive are autonomy, mastery and purpose.
    It seems like sources of autonomy for you are the entrepreneurial side hustle you mentioned and music. There is boundless freedom in having music and stories in your mind.
    I would like to see the list of books you read while incarcerated. I imagine it may reflect some of what you choose to focus on in this channel. A roadmap to enlightenment, in a way. The greatest freedom from the least free place. Mental freedom is everything.
    Sleep, diet, intermittent fasting, exercise routine, digital detox, audio learning, meditation, guitar, intentional attention YES 👍

  • @MysticLoveASMR
    @MysticLoveASMR 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really like this video, it’s a very important topic. I also wanted to share my two cents; I think autonomy is not just about focusing the attention and being present (which of course is important), but also programming the mind. Habits are what make us who we become; but also thinking about the habits and subconscious thoughts or emotions which led to those habits can be enlightening. For example, let’s say you do get out in September from house arrest…do you have a plan on protecting yourself from your mental habits which in the past have led you to blindly follow your addictions?
    You should do a lot of focusing on that. Like say you’re doing fine, but suddenly there’s a catalyst which triggers a negative emotional reaction, and suddenly in this darkened emotional state you blindly only focus on curing this negativity with prior addictive habits (like the drug abuse). If you don’t have a mental crutch in place to anticipate this crisis, then in the moment you’ll drop all the hard work you’ve been achieving and might rebound into addiction again.
    So before you get into that situation of freedom, one example that could work is reprogramming your mind to change your perspective on these drugs of choice. Instead of seeing the pleasure in them, reprogram the mind to see them as vermin, snake-pit, smoke screen, worms, etc. Reprogram to see these substances are ugly and only productive of depression and deterioration. Reprogram the mind to find these substances so repugnant, that it reaches down to the roots of the mind into the subconscious mind which TRULY gets to that point, or crosses that threshold which DOES see these things are truly abominable and repugnant.
    Once it reaches the root of mind, then you can be as free as you want and you’ll never be in a vulnerable position and caught off-guard in which you’re in an emotionally or physical dark place and all you think about is how to get rid of that present discomfort and then again succumb to the addiction again. Because if you’ve done the work of reprogramming the mind, and practiced so much that you cross that threshold, then nothing can catch you off-guard or off balance again.

      @meowntainlion 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Social worker and therapist here. Addiction is complicated and some people may find it helpful to look at their drugs of choice as evil, i.e., to "reprogram" their minds as you say. However, I have found working with clients dealing with SUD/AOD that there are many ways to approach recovery and there is no one size fits all approach. Often, as we learn in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), for example, two things can be true at the same time and there is room for gray areas and ambivalence. A person can acknowledge that a drug causes pleasure AND it is not worth the risk/consequences. Or some people take part in harm reduction, where they don't cut things out completely and participate in some things and not others, or reduce certain behaviors. Addiction is mental and physical, as you allude, and a holistic approach is important. Everyone is unique in their addiction and recovery and extreme ways of thinking can often lead to relapse. That's my two cents as a mental health practitioner.

    I watched this shortly after you posted last night, but couldn't clarify my thoughts until after sleeping on it. In the past I've always heard this framed that we have a choice of how we react to events instead of being compelled to feel and speak a certain way. But choosing to direct our attention gives us more agency instead of choosing how we react. Thanks for for reframing it that way.

    I really admire you for keeping yourself healthy, mind and body and not letting them get the best of you. It is inspirational how you help people. Like you said there are many ways we are kept down by others and by ourselves. It's cool hearing about your struggles and it's helping me a lot in my life. It can be hard, I lost my job...and trying to make it, but rejection can be tough, I think lots of people face it.
