I'm from Zagreb, we have family near Novi Sad so we go visit them often. And people would tell us "be careful, hide your registration plates so people don't know you're Croatian", but everyone in Serbia was really nice to us. And that was around 2001, so not that long after the war. They were happy we came to visit. You know, the war wasn't fought by people, it was fought by governments. Regular people are the ones who lost the most. We all have families on both sides of the border. If you're respectful, no one will bother you here. People are generally nice and friendly.
Also I accidentally almost joined the same Korean cult :D As an atheist. They fed me, made me participate in their mass and then wanted to baptise me. And they were really pushy so I just resorted to crying to make them let me leave.

The reality of the former jugo states is that they were all southern slavs at one point. Its just over time that some became catholic croats and bosnians ect. which changed their group identities and over time more conversions happened so you get catholic serbs ect. Its a long complicated history of volantary and forced conversions as well as the ottomans placing great emphasis on religion.
And then as if things weren't bad enough tito came into the picture who moved industry from belgrade to modern day croatia and slovenia, used serbs as cannon fodder during the war period, waged war on the orthadox church, artificially created new identities and then let albanians move into serbian lands.
And then during the war because serbs were close to russia due to centuaries of friendship nato screwed them over again, cut up the country, bombed civilians and cause one.
Serbs got the raw deal so obviously they're mad.

Novi Sad is in Vojvodina which was until 1918. under the control of the Croatian parlament which existed from the middle ages (then as a meeting of nobles) until 1918.,so all the time under Austro-Hungary Croatia had autonomy.
      Thus, Vojvodina belongs to Croatia.

Fun fact about the Zagreb cathedral - the first one (which only had one spire) collapsed in an earthquake, after that they built the current cathedral, but they used limestone, so when they saw that “oh shit, the cathedral is melting”, they realized they would have to replace the stones they used to build it. Also, in the recent earthquake, the top of the cathedral spire broke off and fell down. Before the earthquake, the inside of the cathedral also featured a chandelier from Las Vegas.

Orthodox priests are in fact not allowed to marry. Not after taking their wows.

While it’s true there are some miserable people, most Croats are pretty cool once you pass the initial awkward stage at the beginning. We are more similar than either of us like to admit. Two great sporting and warrior nations, one with better nature and the other with better food and movies.

I think it's just too soon. We are all kids of either people who fought in the war or were at least old enough to remember the war. Most have someone who was either injuryed or died in the war. Many know their houses were burned down. Many were either themselves forced into refuge or have family or friends that have. The memory is still very fresh and very real.
Blah blah blag let the past stay in the past and all that, the hate isn't productive, but nobody in their right mind could blame anyone for having ill feelings about the whole thing. Especially since the Croats (and i would say rightfully so) view it as a war of occupation; serbia as the aggressor.
