Many thanks Ben, you play with great precision, and realise Gould is a hero, but a little fluidity in tempo may serve musicality , just imho…and some slight tempi oddities at times, remember Beethoven believed in ‘breaking’ a few strings !
Beautiful!!! But….I want to know what Fleisher had to say!!!!! C’on Mr Laude don’t tease us like this!!! 🙂 There was a moment where had closed his eyes and just smiled. I wonder if he felt that small tingling feeling on his back, just like I felt it.
As a PhD from Julliard, this is an acceptable performance, but I'm certain that BL himself knows what he needs for a real career as a concert pianist. How about more YT performances to support his claim to be a concert pianist? He must have a wide repertoire per the PhD .... He seems much better prepared for a career as an academic in a music faculty, but to further that, he needs more than YT videos.
The concert pianist and music academic job markets are both hellscapes. I’ll be better off on TH-cam :) Having said that, I’m with you. This performance is so-so. I hope to keep getting better. Check out my more recent Rach 2 with second piano, and stay tuned for more. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Ben is an excellent pianist with awesome skills. Now I don't mean to be cruel, but this performance by Ben was really quite terrible - from the very first chord! Yet I'm also certain Ben is aware of this. HOWEVER, what IS ALSO APPARENT is that Ben can and indeed must and will do better with the assistance of these great teachers.
It is a bit rigid, but he’s mentioned before how he approaches Beethoven in that manner often times. It wasn’t perfect, no performance truly is. But, I wouldn’t go anywhere near so far as terrible. It also may not be near finished as far as he’s concerned. If he was playing this in a hall it would be different, but he is still a very gifted player and executed many of the technical passages quite well.
I greatly appreciate your insight! Perhaps, next time you criticize someone, maybe say why u dislike/disapprove of their playing. Just a tip. Have a good second/minute/hour/day/week/month/year/life@@coolhandphilip
I have a big crush on Ben Laude. I just wish he played this in his standard attire - his cool T-Shirts!!! Bravo B. Laude!!!!!!
I would have crapped my pants playing for the great Leon Fleischer. Kudos to Ben.
Lovely! I sure miss Ben on Tonebase. He’s a great teacher!
Amazing. Took my breath away.
Great stuff!
What an exquisitely inspirational video, both to experience Leon's sensitivity and your ability to respond to his coaching!
we miss your tonebase stuff!!
Enjoyed this performance, but would love to know what is going through Mr Fleisher's head.
The full master class is on tonebase. I’m going to ask if I can post it here
How can you say that doesnt flow!
Ok not good as Barenboim, but still very good!
Well done!
Wow..... gorgeous.
A piece I played as a student, so often that I came to dislike it. That said, this is as fine a performance of it as I've ever heard.

The most beautiful performance that I have heard. WTF
I don't like this interpretation but I admire the pianist

He's doing what he wants to do.

It would be useful if you could expand a little on that: why terrible? What was wrong with it?
@tomlabooks3263 I think he over analyzes so the result doesn't flow.

@@knightsl5002 I'm comparing him to the best. I would give my eye teeth to play as well as he does.
