    Excellent video! No mindless chatter or begging for likes and subscribes. Just a straight to the point, informative video with clear camera angles. Fixed my SRT MC-II quick and easy. Thank you! BTW I used all purpose machine oil which I happened to have on hand. I don't know if it is recommended for cameras but it appears to have done no harm.

    Just did this with my srt 102. Would only lock up at slow shutter speeds. A couple drops of sewing machine oil did the trick. Thanks for the video!

    Great vid. I did a preventative drop of oil on my SRT101. I was surprised at how much smoother it operates now. I guess it was thirsty.

    Thanks for this tremendous tute. I just freed up a beautiful SRT-202 in 5 minutes, using a single drop of Tri-Flow oil.

    Tried this trick on a Rolleiflex SL35 that had the same problem, and it now works like charm !
    Thanks so much, I was about to get rid of it.

    My SRT-102 likes to do this when it's cold out, never had a problem with the mirror otherwise. I've found that a temporary fix sometimes is to work the mirror lock up knob up and down a few times

    My camera had the opposite problem, the mirror would go up when I pull the advance film lever, but the fix was the same. Just had to keep shooting it a couple of times

    I tried this several times. I bought a near as new SRT and found the mirror stuck - otherwise in very good state. The first time, it didn't work. I used a viscous watchmaker oil. I studied the mechanism to see if there was a joining part. I later tried a less viscous machine oil and it didn't initially work. I tried it again and left it overnight. Finally it did work. So, perhaps it takes a while for the oil to find a way. I have read that using too much or runny oil can affect other areas of the mechanism in a damaging way. So it is good to be cautious.

    • @akosmarton8339

      I am not familiar with Pentax cameras, so this technique may not work on that. I used oil. My father was a trumpet player, and I find some trumpet oil, I used that.

      The mechanic back than probably had to make more effort figuring out how to solve the problem. Now you have to watch only one of the numerous youtube videos about the topic.

    hello, I had this problem with my minolta srt 101, but now I have a film loaded and I have two questions:
    did the photos that I have taken with the mirror blocked worked?
    and can I open the lower part to repair it with the film loaded, or do I consider it damaged?

    • @savero4837
      @savero4837 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will try to answer this. Please dont judge me if im wrong
      1. The photo still safe in there as long the curtains not open/broken
      2. I still dont have a answer for this ( But I think it's safe too because the the design of the camera won't let the light inside the camera (film room) )
      But for the safety i suggest you to rewind the film and start again in frame count you rewind and close the lens or the body of your camera with towel or blanket and do it in dark room, and dont forget to skip forward 1-2 frame from your lately frame count. Sorry for my bad english

    what type of oil did he use?

    • @jerryrichards8172
      @jerryrichards8172 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He used oil that was used on a musical instrument known as a trumpet.
      Theres a oil in the u.s. known as 3in1 oil most every hardware store carys it.
      Be very careful not to use to much oil a pinhead drop or 2 is probably enough.

      Clean the surfaces where the mirror seals when in the up position with a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol.

    Is that just lubricant?

  • @UneZemaityte
    @UneZemaityte 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    would WD-40 work?

    • @briandigiorgio5715
      @briandigiorgio5715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please don't use WD-40. It's a good rust preventive/water displacement oil (hence the 'WD'), but a lousy lubricant because it eventually seizes up like glue. I used Tri-Flow, which is a light oil that frees up stuck parts and leaves behind a little bit of Teflon. Another good choice would be sewing machine oil, which is a high quality mineral oil.

    This is a good example of what to not do to a camera. NEVER squirt oil on anything!
