  • I fix a hanging mirror on a Minolta SRT101 using a drop of oil. It's a nice mechanical 35mm camera I pickup up from Goodwill this week, the first camera I have found at Goodwill since I started looking. This is a quick video and the camera is not 100% ready to be used, in the future I will replace the light seals since the foam has disintegrated into dust. There is no rush to get this camera trail ready since it is cold and windy here is western NY, still have a few months before the sun will show up.
    For anyone who cares:
Filmed on a Sony Handycam HDR-CX160
Audio is recorded using a Zoom ZH1
Edited using kdenlive because I run Arch

It got slightly better for me but shutter speeds from 30 and below the mirror doesn't return back down. Any suggestions?

I recently purchased an SRT 201 with the same problem and I was about to ask if the mechanism is the same. You answered my question even before I asked. Thanks.

Is this why I cant see anything thru my viewfinder?

Probably yes. If you remove the lens you should be able to confirm it.

This improved my camera a bit; went from stuck curtain to stuck mirror. Then I realized teeth on the yellow round thing were broken off. But many thanks for this video as it was extremely interesting investigating a mechanical problem :-)

Hi, I have the exact same problem with my srt303b. It only started having this problem today, and my question is if the film that i shot today will be ruined because of this?

    • @Batou_73
      @Batou_73 ปีที่แล้ว

No it wont. Because behind the mirror is the actual shutter window wich is blocked by a curtain. The mirror makes way for the light hitting the film but the curtain is the final barrier. So as long as the curtain is operating normally your film won´t be ruined.

In my case mirror and shutter curtain is open. I.e. fully exposed similar to bulb mode :-/

    Hello.
Can you describe how the mirrors are placed inside the glass prism (pentamirror)and how it works.. and what kind of mirrors are used... I like the mirror prism (pentamirror)very much. Thanks

    Can you use vegetable oil?

It wasn't the issue I had but it helped me understanding how it should operate. My problem was solved by loosening the screw between the tripod mount and the lens mount a little. It made the springloaded arm return to its position. Thanks for uploading!

I bought same srt101 from eBay and has similar mirror lock up at low shutter speed. After following your video and add oil there, initially didn’t make difference, after one day sitting, it works today. Hope it fixed. Thanks for sharing this video.

Hello. My fujica stx-1 has a lever that seems disconnected from the column that holds the tip of the film. Also, the button to take the photo is stuck, but isn't when I pull the latency lever in the front. Do you know how I can fix it? I'm fairly new to it.

Thanks for sharing, there aren't many images of the bottom circulating around. This helped me repair a similar issue on my SRT101B

Aha! I have an SRT-202 and a 102 with the exact same issue! You have saved me from using the arcwelder! 🙂 Thank you!

My mirror is stuck up and wont come down even when cocking the camera, I was wondering would a dead battery cause this? or does the mirror not need that battery to work?

It seems to me, by the volume of comments from others about other cameras from the Minolta SRT line, that this is a common problem and you have saved a lot of people a lot of grief because of this great video. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
