I was very pleased to see you using custom cut filter material. You almost never see that and its such a cheap and easy PM. For coils in the kitchen I have found that a steam gun works the best. No chemicals, no clean up, its food safe, and it knocks grease off super easy.
Knipex is so awesome. I have some side cutters and flush cutters from them and they cut so unbelievably good. I also may have cut things once or twice which should never be cut with side cutters but they are still as sharp as on the first day.

Great video Chris. Those hi and low pressure safety controls you installed was a great idea. I'm working on a cold rail right now which is an old R22 unit with a compressor burn out. It was built by a company called Craig Manufacturing in Irvington, NJ which has been long out of business. Even though the unit is 22 years old the owner still wants it fixed. Keep posting great videos, I'm a big fan of your channel.

(Saw you using those in a previous video, said to myself, that tool may save the teeth marks left by the old style channel locks / grip tighter than the common adjustable jaw wrench / AKA - Crescent wrench).

It's good to see that you are foaming from the bottom up. This is the only way to see that it's actually getting into the coil. If you start at the top, it overflows, and covers the outside of the coil, and doesn't allow it to flow in making it less efficient, and trapping dirt in the coil. I work for a maintenance contractor at a major food manufacturer, and this is actually written into our cleaning protocols and procedures.

Good video, you are correct it only makes sense to clean the second condenser. The boxes always struggle because of an oven blowing heat or a plate heat lamp baking down on it most of the time they don’t have all the pans or they have gaps. Keep the videos coming, love watching your videos.
Good video ! For Sure Trashcan Blocked Condenser. Time to Put that condenser on the Roof or somewhere else. At a Minimum Push condenser farther in and put a screw in it to hold it there to allow for an air space if trash can gets put in front of it again , which u know it will.
Knipex is awesome. Definitely check out their other tools / sizes if you haven't already. You also used to be able to buy them super cheap from the German Amazon page, but since COVID the shipping prices went from free to expensive. Either way, still worth picking up more of them.
It almost seems like everything in a commercial kitchen should have a remote condenser. It would fix them being blocked, getting filthy, etc. It would also save space and make the working environment quieter for employees. I want my fridge at home to have a remote condenser so I don't have to listen to it anymore.
If it’s a Cooks line - For sure ! Also Allows for 1/2 the unit to be worked on During normal business hours. Condenser can be cleaned during normal business hours & it will not get full of Grease if it’s on the Roof too !
I think it would keep things cooler for the cooks as well, and the general area AC wouldn't have to move all that heat through a refrigerant a second time, so it would be more efficient.
Interesting video! I bet if the lines going thru that box had fins attached to them it would spread the cold out instead the box better! I have seen this system used in a deli case and it worked quit well!
Chris, your customers with the flat plate with holes in it for vinegar and sauce bottles should know the plate is designed to slide onto a pan to prevent too much air loss.

Seriously, I work in commercial building automation, I get a lot of complaints about rooms being too cold, then I find someone put a massive printer copier under the thermostat, a microwave, coffee pot and the list goes on. People really have no common sense, none at all.
If the customers do want to use ice to help keeping things cool until the refrigeration unit is fixed: if they add salt to the ice, that can it bring down to -6°F. So if they're in a pickle, making one helps :)
Hey just watch this video on the cold rail. I have seen customers fill pans and cover them with cling wrap and stick them in a walk in refrigerator and then when the food runs out they stick them in the rail. Thinking it will work but reality it doesn't. Manufacturers may want to think about maybe running the copper or glycol lines around the pans on the rail pan cut outs if that makes sense? But they have engineers for that stuff.
Chris you should start manufacturing in the USA of course you're own line of good refrigeration equipment. That custom build was pretty cool and shows your attention to the detail needed to properly address what customers need.
Hello, My name is Abraham and I saw your TH-cam video on the cooling problem for a prep table and I’m in need of assistance. I’m in San Bernardino, CA. and I have a prep table that is not cooling properly. I tried cleaning the coils and everything else but still cooling. The fans are running properly but the prep table seems to be getting hot inside rather than cold. If you do repairs please let me know so we can set something up. Thank you!
Water has 80 calorie latent heat of fusion at freezing point which makes it difficult for the ice water in the table to freeze. Liquid water will change 1 degree C for every calorie added or removed. But when it gets to freezing point 0 C it hits a brickwall. The temp of water does not go below 0C until 80 more calories are removed after reaching freezing point on the thermometer. Then it finally starts going down below freezing. This is why when the weather goes to freezing and there is lots of rain, snow, sleet(i.e. water) it is common that the measured temperature is 32F and it takes a rather strong cold front to push below 32F. In the Atlanta area it is common when we get snow/sleet that the temp is 32F. It only goes below 32F when the precipitation stops and then only the air mass goes below 32F. Up north the cold fronts are strong enough to push through the 80 calorie latent heat of fusion so they get snow at below 32F. In Atlanta when the forecast is for at least several degrees below freezing we know it will be dry with no precipitation.
Also on this unit, customer calls in saying food on top rail frozen. Come to find out they have been leaving it in there overnight. Mfg says that rail is not meant for food to stay in it over night. Turn off rail at closing time. Manager never told staff and it kept happening. Frozen food stuck to pan and they were just putting fresh food on top of it. There was other things going with that place. Long story short, that place closed up.
I like the condenser filters. I used them at my first refrigeration job. They solved so many problems for the low boys under the friers, but the customer still would not change them even when I left spares. I totally agree with your closing comments. I would get the operating instructions when we would drop off new units with top rails and show the customer the manufacturer's instructions on rotating the product. Yet that always seemed to anger the customers. The salesmen never talk about that requirement; so when I bring it up, I'm the bad guy. Oh well, win some and than there's the rest of life. I like the split condensing units on the box and top rail. ASI could (probably should) do that with their unit. I have yet to work on one that was not totally over worked and in a high ambient environment.
I service 10 mcdonalds stores. And every single cold rail,and I mean every single one. Has a hard start on it. Which were put on before I began servicing them. Any tips to keep those compressors from cashing out so fast? They are supposed to be shut off every night
1) Put a Suction accumulator on the Condensing unit. Upon start up compressor is getting hit with liquid taking out the compressor.accumulator will prevent this. 2) Set a 5 Minute time delay on the Condensing unit Temperature control to prevent short cycling. 3) install a 5 Minute time delay on liquid line solenoid for cold rail to lessen the load on start up if the unit controls both an upper rail & lower refer section. 4) Degrease condensers monthly if self contained. 5) Remote the Condenser to the Roof & Go up one size in Cndensing unit.
Amazing the Blue-tooth. My time was mechanical only. Not hard to understand the blue-tooth but damn, that did not exist 20 years ago. I'd have been pretty leary of tool guys selling the latest. Nonetheless, it seems quite useful. TBH, I'm talking from an automotive and Thermo-King perspective. Frankly, they're not much different. Maybe you'll get a chance to work on the 'dry ice' stuff that seems to be front and center now. Great time to be in HVAC. Envious.
Idk if you know anything about residential heating and air but I recently noticed our dave lennox signature system throw an e203 code and I looked it up and it says the unit size was improperly programed so is this a bad thing and if so is it a fix I could do.

Quick question on the filter media you used over the condenser coil, even though I agree with using one the manufacture doesn’t recommend and won’t warranty the unit if it fails. My business is just doing PM work on HVACR and doing quarterly maintenance on these reach-ins, you wonder how they make it though the 3 months without having problems.
I seem to remember a similar situation in another kitchen where he installed a bar in front of the condenser to prevent anything being pushed up against it.
Hey Chris im currently working on a Kairak cold rail and having issue with drainage. Looks to be broken under where lines exit rail underneath where insulation is so when i try to flush from uptop it just leaks at fittings underneath insulation and nothing coming out from end of drainline. So right where fan is underneath is just holding water! Any advice?
The drain likely is frozen turn the entire unit off for a couple days that try clearing it with hot water, do not use compressed air. Also try adapting a piece of 1/4" tubing to a hose and put that in the drain so the cold water can still escape while the hot water is melting the ice.... if there is something actually stuck in the drain there is not much you can do about it so let's hope it's just ice!
So i tried to run nitro through drain and it initially starts to drain but builds up again. The drain at end of rail is not holding water so when i flush that line it leaks water underneath. How difficult is it to re plumb line underneath where lines exit rail? Im an Hvac tech with some experience with refer but not much. Im digging it but get overwhelmed at times! I knew i always wanted to go this route from the beginning of my career after getting called out to a cemetery at midnight for a body box storage unit. I didn’t want to take the call but after handling it, i knew this was my calling! Thanks for all your videos and knowledge!
I've always felt that every time I see a kitchen with a way undersized AC that they don't care about their cooks. I know that's not your fault, that's building management's fault. Just my commentary on the state of things is all.
Question; do you try to educate your clients on such things as trash cans blocking condenser vents? I used to educate my customers about certain things on their cars because they just didn't know. It was better all around when the customer became knowledgeable about their car.

When living in a state with very snowy winters its one reason I'm glad there inside
Fractional hp compressors have other issues being remoted. And they get plugged on the roof too. Just not as greasy.

Had a similar call this week. High limit was tripped and I could not replicate the failure or even find anything that could of caused failure.

Hey Chris im currently working on a Kairak cold rail and having issue with drainage. Looks to be broken under where lines exit rail underneath where insulation is so when i try to flush from uptop it just leaks at fittings underneath insulation and nothing coming out from end of drainline. So right where fan is underneath is just holding water! Any advice?
The drain likely is frozen turn the entire unit off for a couple days that try clearing it with hot water, do not use compressed air. Also try adapting a piece of 1/4" tubing to a hose and put that in the drain so the cold water can still escape while the hot water is melting the ice.... if there is something actually stuck in the drain there is not much you can do about it so let's hope it's just ice!
So i tried to run nitro through drain and it initially starts to drain but builds up again. The drain at end of rail is not holding water so when i flush that line it leaks water underneath. How difficult is it to re plumb line underneath where lines exit rail? Im an Hvac tech with some experience with refer but not much. Im digging it but get overwhelmed at times! I knew i always wanted to go this route from the beginning of my career after getting called out to a cemetery at midnight for a body box storage unit. I didn’t want to take the call but after handling it, i knew this was my calling! Thanks for all your videos and knowledge!

I've always felt that every time I see a kitchen with a way undersized AC that they don't care about their cooks.

Question; do you try to educate your clients on such things as trash cans blocking condenser vents? I used to educate my customers about certain things on their cars because they just didn't know. It was better all around when the customer became knowledgeable about their car.
