As a brand new crocheter, I really appreciate how thorough you are with your explanations where other tutorials gloss over things or omit the info altogether. Thank you also for filming your work up close so newbies like me can see what we are supposed to be doing and for showing EXACTLY where the hook is supposed to go on each stitch. You take your time to show the stitch pattern repeatedly, and what to look for at the end of the row and how to continue to the next row, and that is SOOOO helpful for a middle age newbie like me. Hi Roz I love this yarn. It's so soft. Love new designs that are easy but make a beautiful blanket. Thank you so much!! I want a stack of beautiful blankets, each one a totally different pattern. I think they look so pretty folded and stacked. Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. Can't say it enough, I love your channel and content. ❤🥰❤🥰❤ Have a wonderful and blessed Sunday!!!❤😊
I have been loving the Suzette stitch these days. I’ve made bookmarks with size 3 crochet thread. Working on dresser scarves with same size thread. Also cotton washcloths with same stitch. It’s so easy to do on autopilot, like you mentioned, and pretty too. Thanks for this video.
I love this tutorial! I just made a small throw using #4 wt Caron Jumbo Ombre and a K hook. I chained 90 to begin for a width of about 32-33 inches. It turned out great! Love the texture of this stitch. I'm going to make a hot pad/pot holder with some cotton yarn I have.
I love this stitch too, and so glad I discovered it. It's going to be my go-to stitch for throws. I like to use #4 worsted weight yarn and a K hook so it's soft and squishy. I just adjust the number of beginning chains, any multiple of 2.
Just starting my second blanket . It’s gorgeous and as a beginner it’s given me confidence, seeing such lovely end result. Your explanation was nice and easy. Thanks
You really do a fantastic job showing and explaining exactly what you're doing. I've been crocheting for almost 30 years, but I still sometimes have trouble visualizing stitches or steps in patterns. This is super simple to follow. Thanks!
Thank you for this! I enthusiastically got a ton of yarn off Amazon and it not as chunky as I thought so my plans went down the drain! Until I found this! This is perfect! I've been toying with crochet for years and while I'll good at the smaller yarns, this will be my first blanket project!
I've never made a blanket before and just finished this one yesterday. I found this process to be so relaxing and enjoyable.. was sad for it to end! I am already planning to try your Rice stitch one. Thanks for the inspiration and great instruction! ❤
You are wonderful and so talented and such an amazing teacher. This blanket is fabulous. Thank you for posting this pattern! I’m going out tomorrow and buy this yarn. I can’t wait!
I love this stitch, and I’ll be using it to make my blanket. I also Love how simple it is too. My mom uses the actual blanket stitch to make her blankets, so, I’m going to call this stitch the modify blanket stitch😀. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us how to make it, and I’m excited to get started☺️!
Oh my goodness. I love this pattern. Your video is awesome. Simple easy and your delivery is easily understandable. Whats even better is that this is a modern stitch which I love. Making this in several colors with Bernat blanket.
Thank you this is exactly what I’ve been looking for 😊 I only started crochet a few days ago and I wanted to learn how to make my own blanket, this was so clear and easy to follow ❤
I made my mom a scarf in this stitch, and it took barely any time. I also worked out a way to use it in hats, complete with decreases. It's super handy!
For some reason the thick yarns have always intimated me but after watching your video I am now excited to try this. Love the details you give to create this stitch. Thank you for the video!
Leave it to you to help me make yet another BEAUTIFUL blanket. Your attention detail, your tips for straight edges, stitch counts to resize as well as adjusting by yarn brand. Every video watching you I learn lasting tips and habits I keep
I too almost always use a larger hook because I like blankets and throws to be super-soft and squishy, not tight and dense. I even use a K hook with #4 worsted weight yarns for blankets and throws! The Suzette stitch gives a lovely texture and your directions are excellent. Thank you!
Thank you for explaining thing so well, I have just discovered the Bernat blanket yarn. I will be using the color Tourmaline and can't want to see how the multicolored turn out. Please make more videos using Bernat yarn. Have a great day!
One of my favorite stitch to crochet. I’m using this right now to make headbands/earwarmers. Instead of skipping stitches I start with an odd number then sc in first st dc in next st ending with a dc giving it a nice texture.
Great video ! I love the pattern and can’t wait to make it I love working with Bernat Blanket yarn Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful blanket pattern ❤
Thanks for this tutorial. I've struggled with blanket yarn. You make working with it look effortless. I'm going to try the larger 12mm hook as you suggested.
Wonderful, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did ! I’ll be right there with you soon. My husband asked that it be a little longer so I’m adding another skein as soon as the yarn arrives 😂💕🧶
Great tutorial; thank you so much I love the texture of this stitch and your directions are very easy to follow. Some tutorials on the Suzette stitch aren't very clear on how to start a new row but yours are. I just made a small throw (about 33" x 43") using two 595-yd skeins of #4 worsted wt. Caron Jumbo Ombre and a K hook. I made a chain of 90. One thing I did differently is that I added a beginning row of SC to the chain, starting in the 2nd chain from hook and worked into the back "nubs" of the beginning chain, which is just something I often do because I like the edge better. I also like to add a row of SC after the final pattern row of the throw although it doesn't matter. It turned out beautifully! I use the similar "puffy" blanket stitch (1 SC, 2 DC) and #4 wt Caron Simply Soft yarn and a K hook (J would work fine but I like less dense and very squishy) when I make baby blankets, but I love the texture of the Suzette stitch and it does seem to work up faster. Many thanks! This will be my go-to stitch for throws and lap throws.
I love it!! I am finishing up wraps with ribbed topped pockets (from your tutorial,) for Christmas gifts, but after Christmas I'm making this for me! Thanks so much. 😊 Merry Christmas! ❤✝️❤
Happy Sunday to you too, Miss Crafty. 😀 I made one of these blankets with a hdc v stitch and love it. My daughter stole it, though 😂 You’re right , hdc’s are brilliant. Have a great week 👏🏻❤️
@@PlayHookywithMe hdc v stitch ? I shall check that one out. Mine were just classic hdc . I can’t blame your daughter 😉 I bet she couldn’t resist its beauty 😁 bless her. Xx
First time viewer of your channel, but this is excellent! A month ago, I was looking for this VERY stitch for some yarn that's also very thick (I did find it, after much searching). It looks LOVELY! Insta-sub. I first started using this stitch on cotton washcloths from a pattern on Ravelry; but it had been years, and I had no idea what it was called! Maybe you know how it is, you use so many different stitches, you'll remember one you did and go, "What was that stitch?" The Suzette stitch has to be my absolute favorite stitch. It goes very quickly, is fun to do, and I haven't seen a yarn yet that doesn't look great with it. So glad I know the name, now! BTW, love your channel name! Great video. Thank you!
Cool I did this pattern & then a crochet one using single crochet and half double crochet .1row all single 2-20 row till completion row i did single then half double.😄
I made a scarf from the suzette stitch for my best friend whose name is Suzette. I also have a cousin I'm doing a blanket for after the NY and my aunt, her mom, name is Suzette and she has passed. So this might be the best stitch for her blanket. QUESTION... I've bought 4weight yarn to double to make her blanket. Going to try different size hooks to see which works best.
Looks like a good blanket. My question is, how warm is this???? I have family getting ready to move to Alaska-- I want to make warm afghans for them. Waiting for your answer-- thank you. God bless you from grandma Katie in Oregon. Your instructions are very well taught & able to follow
Highly recommend for warmth, yes. If you want this to be even warmer, I’d recommend going down to a 10mm hook size to tighten the stitch a little to make it more dense. Another option would be this pattern … no gaps between the stitches making it nice and warm : th-cam.com/video/dNBADKiLAv4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oxR4kA1HgbQAYYWU
Excellent video!! One suggestion: Please include the written instructions (the same ones you put on the screen which were very clear and concise).😊 It’s too difficult to go back and find rows 3-6 on the video because the time stamps don’t always start at a new row. (I had to go back through the video and write them down which was a little tedious.) But other than that, great job! I’m happy to learn how to read crochet instructions while I was following your video! I look forward to seeing others.❤
Good morning! I have used this yarn in making a couple of blankets. They are beautiful and very cozy when finished. My only problem is the yarn wants to twist. I find it very difficult to work with. I didnt notice any twisting in the video. Do you have a secret? Enjoyed the video just the same. 🌍☮️🌲
I don’t know how many chains since I use a tape measure and chain along it until I reach the width I want . Then I keep working rows until I reach the height I want the blanket to be. There are a wide range of sizes for baby blankets so I’d recommend you choose the size you prefer and use those dimensions to make your blanket. If you google “standard baby blanket sizes” , you’ll get some great ones to choose from ❤️🧶
I started today and have done 1 skein so far. It's very dense and firm and i think, i should give it a try with a bigger hook. Have you ever made it with a bigger hook? Your's is looking soft and cuddly! I enjoy the pattern very much but i'm unsure about the outcome of my blanket. Thank you for this video!
I can’t wait to make this blanket! I’ve been looking for a blanket pattern specifically for the Bernat yarn! How many skeins will I need to make to 5’ x 6’ blanket you made? Thank you!!
I only noticed an issue when I was getting too loose with my tension but otherwise it was ok. I know what you mean, though. I made one with sc’s that you might like better that’s linked at the end of the video. Less loopy so hopefully less risk of loops falling out 💕
Hi. I am working on this blanket in Bernat BB yarn. It is a beautiful pattern. Is there a trick to fastening off and weaving in the tails so that it doesn't pop out? The yarn seems to have a mind of its own when I apply the usual techniques. Thank you for your help!
With this yarn that can be a pain with popping out. The only thing I’ve found that really helps is to tack it down with a needle and thread . I show what I do at the end of this video: th-cam.com/video/yFHTO6uevPM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=p4xkHT5FiNLff8_Q
I LOVE your videos! You make me feel like I can actually do this! Would Bernat velvet yarn work the same way with this stitch? Would I need a different amount of yarn?
Absolutely. I’m not sure of the weight of the velvet , I think it might be slightly thinner than this. I’d expect you’d need more yarn, then. But to be sure, compare the labels on both and see what the size differences are. Look at the size hook used on both - that’s the fastest way to know. Then from there the yarn weight and amount in the ball itself. You can find the labels online easily 🧶❤️
It’s due to the type of stitch that’s being created. You’re making a pattern here . If you make a sample up with each way (sc dc and dc dc ) you’ll see a difference in the look of the fabric.
I’ve always wanted to learn to crochet I tried when I was younger but I got frustrated and Back than they didn’t have TH-cam/ social media lol As someone who’s learning to crochet and I’m determined at 58 to learn this! During Black Friday I bought 6 skeins of bernet blanket yarn and all the other stuff I even bought those expensive clover hooks 🤔 I watched so many videos and what I’ve learned is I wish someone would’ve told me to make my beginning chain when starting a blanket to make them loose 😢 I thought I finally had the hang of it until I realized after 3 skeins and hours of crocheting that my blanket is curled (very curled) so I chained 125 but didn’t realize I needed to count the stitches I just done half double crochet because it was easier and faster. I was going to frog it but this is a blanket of learning. It’s my ruffled mess blanket 😂
Hi! I'm excited this came up in my feed! I recently tried two other tutorials with this Suzette stitch and one swatch ended up too tight on the edges and the other swatch made one side taller than the other so i gave up on it before starting a large project... I'll give your version a try and hope it ends up even and flat. My concern is theres just a single crochet on the ends of each row but it has to be the same height as a double with a single... has anyone had issues with this? Do you need to make your last sc a bit looser?
I see what you mean … somehow … and maybe it’s because of the larger hook size, it seemed to even out for me on the sides. But , you might find you like it more if you you replace the sc with a dc or even a hdc . It’s not going to affect the stitch count so I’d give it a go. Otherwise the stitch itself is going to be a bit lumpy throughout because it’s puffing the stitch out a bit. You might find ,Stacy, that a larger hook helps. Please keep me posted - I’m curious if you find a solution that works for you that can be passed on to other crocheters that are having the same issue 💕
I end my rows with the double crochet (US), and it's giving it a nice beveled look to the sides. I had to do several rows before I saw it, though. Even with the dc, I also add a chain 1, and if you try that, you'll see it looks very nice. I don't know if my count was off or what, but it wound up being a happy accident.
Hello thank you for sharing, silly question, but would something this bulky fit in reg washing machine? Or do I need to take it to laundromat and use the huge washers or the cleaners? 🤔
This one will fit a regular washer … the ones using the next size up of yarn is more of an issue. I do those in my washer as well but they hold a lot of water when they are washed . Depending on the machine, it could put the drum off balance so you have to keep an eye on it . That’s only happened to me a couple of times . To fix that, I just shift the blanket around so it can balance itself back out.
I’ve been working on a Bernat blanket for my grandson but my stitches are too tight. I usually crochet very tightly. Think I’m going to set aside what I’ve started and re-start with a new skein and use this tutorial
@@PlayHookywithMe I’ve already frogged it 3 times. If I continue, it wouldn’t ever be able to be washed, except at a laundromat. Luckily I’ve got extra skeins. Just looking at it frustrates me at this point. (18 rows, full bed size) I think I’ve a better shot at starting fresh. Thanks so much.

Thank you !
Absolutely beautiful, ty.❤
Thank you 💕
I’m so excited to try this! I have my yarn - I chose the bernat cream. - just need to pick up a 12mm hook ❤
What a beautiful color 🤩🤩🤩
Thank you!
Happens to me all the time too 😆🙌🏻
So glad you enjoyed the video and glad to have you here! 💕🧶

Thank you so much 🧶💕
Thank you 😊 😊😊
Cool I did this pattern & then a crochet one using single crochet and half double crochet .1row all single 2-20 row till completion row i did single then half double.😄
Fantastic 😃
I made a scarf from the suzette stitch for my best friend whose name is Suzette. I also have a cousin I'm doing a blanket for after the NY and my aunt, her mom, name is Suzette and she has passed. So this might be the best stitch for her blanket.
QUESTION... I've bought 4weight yarn to double to make her blanket. Going to try different size hooks to see which works best.
Awe how lovely ❤️
Not sure on you’re question but yes, I’m sure you’ll find the right hook for the job 👏🏻💕
Another option would be this pattern … no gaps between the stitches making it nice and warm :

Excellent video!! One suggestion: Please include the written instructions (the same ones you put on the screen which were very clear and concise).😊 It’s too difficult to go back and find rows 3-6 on the video because the time stamps don’t always start at a new row. (I had to go back through the video and write them down which was a little tedious.) But other than that, great job! I’m happy to learn how to read crochet instructions while I was following your video! I look forward to seeing others.❤
Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching! 💕🧶

Thank you 😀🧶❤️
Good morning! I have used this yarn in making a couple of blankets. They are beautiful and very cozy when finished. My only problem is the yarn wants to twist. I find it very difficult to work with. I didnt notice any twisting in the video. Do you have a secret? Enjoyed the video just the same. 🌍☮️🌲
Hi Jennie, I’ve heard this before but I’m not really sure what causes that. I wish I had a good solution to share!
🎄💕
I have heard about people not using the yarn because of that like me. Darn I was hoping you could tell me why. 🎄
I just found this its beautiful! How many chains and roes you think for a baby blanket? ❤
I don’t know how many chains since I use a tape measure and chain along it until
I reach the width I want . Then I keep working rows until
I reach the height I want the blanket to be.
There are a wide range of sizes for baby blankets so
I’d recommend you choose the size you prefer and use those dimensions to make your blanket.
What size hook are you using?
Like you I use a size 12 hook. Perhaps my crocheting is tighter than yours.
Would it be ok to use a 15mm hook you think? Thank you!
Sure - it will just make your loops even bigger so just take that into account and see how it looks to you 🧶💕

Thank you so much 😀💕
I can’t wait to make this blanket! I’ve been looking for a blanket pattern specifically for the Bernat yarn! How many skeins will I need to make to 5’ x 6’ blanket you made? Thank you!!
I used 6 balls but it was just shy of the 6 ft mark so I bought another one so 7 in total. It was for my husband and he wanted it extra long. 💕
Wondering if the yarn worms it's way out with this stitch? I've tried different stitches with it and always ends up coming out.
I show what I do at the end of this video:

@@PlayHookywithMe Thank you for responding. The tutorial is very helpful.
@@PlayHookywithMeThank you so much! That is really helpful!
Thank you for great explanation and example. Did you do a border on your blanket ?
Thank you ! No, I didn’t add a border. It looked nice without it 💕
I thought so too. Beautiful blanket 💕
So I'm fairly new to crocheting. I'm wondering why you do a single crochet followed by a double, instead of just doing two double crochets??
It’s due to the type of stitch that’s being created. You’re making a pattern here . If you make a sample up with each way (sc dc and dc dc ) you’ll see a difference in the look of the fabric.
@@PlayHookywithMe Thank you. I figured it was due to the pattern it creates.
I’ve always wanted to learn to crochet I tried when I was younger but I got frustrated and Back than they didn’t have TH-cam/ social media lol
As someone who’s learning to crochet and I’m determined at 58 to learn this!
You'll get there! And look at all you already learned through this first blanket .
Named it, The “ruffled with love” blanket! 😆🧶❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I liked your crochet hook. Where did you get it?
Michaels Craft Store - if you check the description box under the video, you’ll see a link for it 👍🏻
@@gracefire7 so glad you found a pleasing solution, it sounds perfect 👍🏻 👏🏻
Hello thank you for sharing, silly question, but would something this bulky fit in reg washing machine? Or do I need to take it to laundromat and use the huge washers or the cleaners? 🤔
This one will fit a regular washer … the ones using the next size up of yarn is more of an issue.
I do those in my washer as well but they hold a lot of water when they are washed . Depending on the machine, it could put the drum off balance so you have to keep an eye on it . That’s only happened to me a couple of times . To fix that, I just shift the blanket around so it can balance itself back out.
how many skeins of yarn does it take to make the 5x6 blanket vs. the 4x5?
one extra skein difference 👍🏻🧶
@PlayHookywithMe thanks so much! love this pattern, so so fun to work up
@ so glad !
I’ve been working on a Bernat blanket for my grandson but my stitches are too tight. I usually crochet very tightly. Think I’m going to set aside what I’ve started and re-start with a new skein and use this tutorial
Or retry yours with a bigger hook? Im a tight crocheter as well. That might be what’s happening but I think you’ll enjoy this one too 💕
@@PlayHookywithMe I’ve already frogged it 3 times. If I continue, it wouldn’t ever be able to be washed, except at a laundromat. Luckily I’ve got extra skeins. Just looking at it frustrates me at this point. (18 rows, full bed size) I think I’ve a better shot at starting fresh. Thanks so much.
Is the wool like a chenille.
Very similar - it’s described as chenille but it’s not as slippery/soft as other types and doesn’t shed as much as other chenille style yarns.
How many did u chain for yours? So with the suzette stitch the ends will come out once weaved in?
4x 5 ft - approx 60
I made a 5 x 6 ft so I started with 86
