Hi! Game director here! Thank you again for covering our journey. I want to credit the time and love you put in the editing. People might not know, but we didn't have a full cinematic for the playtest, and you literally did an amazing editing job in the first minute. Kudos! Addressing some notes: -Voicelines are indeed placeholders, both in the script and sound design. With that said the DNA-Suit are bio suits merged with the human users, hence you still play as a human, and especially in coop, characters will engage in conversations and comms, which is crucial for coordination and winning the battles. Worth mentioning that all characters have specific backstories impacting their behaviour on the battlefield, sometimes in an oddly dissonant way. -While The Seed of Juna was held due to Covid, CRETE was created following its legacy. Who knows if The Seed of Juna will come back one day, but in the meantime, I promise many elements and surprises of Juna are living within CRETE. -We might feel more inspired by Evolva than Warframe. And more inspired by Deadcells than Scorn. And more inspired by classical Greek sculpture than Prometheus. ;) The design choice we made in the first year of design was: Greek myths brought to elegant bioengineering in a roguelite game. We hope to share soon a whole new universe with unique ideas while having a intense coop/single-player experience. Again, thanks for all the love, feedback and comments. If it is not too spammy, I'm leaving here our Discord community with all our updates, playtests and behind the scenes. btw, great gameplay. Hi! You're welcome! It's a great game. Love the setting, the combat and the alien designs. It's a very big step up since the last build I covered. Thanks for all the info on the game design. Also, thanks for the heads-up about the hammer boss, I was worried it was just a skill issue! :)
Evolva? I can't wait! I mean actually I definitely can lol. We all look forward to your inspirations being done justice and yourselves being happy with the final product before release! But I will be sharing this and its a crime that biopunk isn't a bigger genre than it is.
So nice to finally see folks genuinely trying to find Biopunk it's own identity distinct from cyberpunk or other sci-fi. This is quite a welcome step forwards!
@@vlatstrapes3931 Just as having technology with a focus on cybernetics and AI doesn't immediately qualify something as cyberpunk, the same applies to biotechnology and biopunk. Crete is certainly focussed on biotechnology but if it qualifies as biopunk or not will depend upon it's narrative context and themes. If it's just a case of fighting off aliens using biotech then it is not biopunk - just regular sci-fi As I said, it is certainly a step forwards because, as you can tell from the comments on thus video, people currently cannot fully wrap their mind around a fictional world without advanced digital technology. So getting thm familiar with that idea first is a step towards fully realising Biopunk as a distinct genre and not a subgenre.
Younger players wouldn't remember, but this game brings some major similarities to certain game, titled "Evolva", but with a Prometheus visage. Magnificent.
Evolva was more about giant bugs and stuff though, the colourful aesthetic was also markedly different and it was a very typical linear shooter like MDK. I don't think the notion of using your enemies DNA to upgrade yourself is really justification for a comparison either as it's just a maguffin that could be easily word swapped with "weapons" or "armour" thereby making it identical to every other looter shooter.
@@Proletarius87 I literally said that DNA harvesting is just an aesthetic justification for a common looter shooter. I'm sure you can think of numerous comparisons to that - alien themed or otherwise.
I covered an earlier build of CRETE a little over a year ago. This new version is still in development (it's an Alpha), but it's much improved, with better environmental design, more enemy types with more attacks, and lots of other visual and gameplay upgrades. The video features a condensed run with a brutally hard boss fight at the end. :)
Not bad I prefer more (Splatter House) type combat this feels a bit more like (Elden Ring) in style. Although I have to admit, the art style itself is stunning! The biomechanical, pale bone/bio luminescent light, really is quite catching.
Removing the human voice from the player character and just leaving grunts and such but heavily distorted in an alien way- like the way it would be considering the amount of bioengineering the character clearly went through- and it would be perfect.
That lighting bolt attack sold me. I hope to see more and seeing as the main dev left a notable acknowledgment, I hope to see this game in my Libraries.
Having the main character with that kinda design have a voice is jarring to me. Especially with the one-liners. Otherwise a very cool looking game Id love to try~
The briefing lady and the mc voice clash so much with the tone. Why are games doing this cool concept with really tone-deph performances coming out more often lately?
As the discussion a few comments up go: it's jarring on purpose, since the guy is a human spliced with alien DNA and canonically gets reborn every time he dies, of course he's quite flippant and nonchalant about it, plus it shows how the changes were so fast and the character is so young that he's not taking it seriously. I'd rather have this than another gruff "I didn't ask for this" dramatic protagonist, even if they amp up the drama later and point out how the MC is losing his humanity, making him more dour.
@@enriquejoseantequerasanche6180 I disagree, but I guess that's more a matter of taste. I feel like you can make him sound brash, overconfident and immature, or at least show how above everything he feels, without making him say quotes like an anime character mid combat
The visuals and gameplay are okay for their genre, but I just don't think the narrator and protagonist voices help the aesthetic.
