  • This is a rare opportunity to purchase a low mileage Saab 9-5. This 2006 Vector model is powered by the superb 2.3 litre Turbo petrol engine and has a 5 speed automatic gearbox with tiptronic function. I was always a massive fan of Saab before it was extinguished to the history books back in 2010. Good, clean examples such as this now have a very keen following and are almost definitely a future classic, but also an uber-rare executive saloon which drive superbly and will turn heads for all the right reasons.
If you are a huge Saab fan reading this then you will already know all about this car, which was facelifted in late 2005 to include that distinctive, chrome-embellished nose. The original Saab 9-5 replaced the classic 9000 and was facelifted while Saab was under General motors tennership. Saab were obsessed with quality and these cars are over engineered to the point they were not profitable. Unfortunately Saabs unhealthy balance sheets could no longer sustain the company and so Saab was condemned to the history books. But, while there are no longer any new Saabs, what we are left with is a legacy for quality that was never compromised and some of the best executive saloons ever produced.
I travelled over 200 miles to Essex to purchase this particular car. With a warranted low mileage of 75k and being presented in such a clean and original condition I felt it was worth the trip - and I certainly enjoyed my drive home. What I was not expecting was this turbo-charged petrol car to average over 40mpg on that journey, a testament to the quality of that 2.3 litre turbo engine. Something I was expecting though, was a relaxing drive home.. Saabs are famed for their comfortable seats and I had almost forgot how comfy they were. The 2.3 litre turbo has plenty of torque for effortless performance and it's a smooth operator as is the auto gearbox which has flappy paddles for manual changes should you want to press on. As you can see our car is finished in a very smart metallic red and while there are minor imperfections in keeping with the cars age and mileage, it is a straight and unmolested example. You will note that this car has a few minor marks on the bumper corners as pointed out in our walk around video appraisal of the car. Also there are some minor marks on the original alloy wheels in keeping with the age and mileage. Inside everything works as it should, including the coolest (and most over-engineered) cup holder in history. There is some residue on the dashboard from where the previous owner had stuck a multi-point 12v charger. As this was both ugly and pointless we have removed it and will remove a majority of the residue during preparation. Our aim in presenting this car is to have it as original as possible so while there may be minor imperfections, the car is as straight as they come.
Saab were also well-known for their often quirky design features. The 9-5 is no exception with an ignition placed on the transmission tunnel (a nod to the days when earlier Saabs had a transmission lock - where the car locked in reverse, as apposed to a more modern steering lock) and the night display function - which has long been a feature on Saab saloons where only the speedo is illuminated at night - a nod to the firms aviation history designed to reduce unwanted glare. However, its not all novelty - The Saab vast amounts of space inside and a huge boot, making it highly practical. The leather-bound steering wheel houses controls for the cars audio system and cruise control whilst a multi-function computer is tells you all the vital stats. You will adore the styling and the quality of this well preserved example of the breed. Even the leather on the steering wheel still has its grain, so free of wear is this car - And it still performs like new!
With 182 bhp, the Saab has smooth and reassuring performance. The 9-5 is capable of 140mph and can sprint from 0-60mph in just 9 seconds. The power is delivered smoothly with a massive mid-range punch that makes it ideal for overtaking. The Saab always feels incredibly stable and well planted on the road. The cabin is sublimely quiet - So much so that you barely realise how fast you are going until you catch a glimpse of your speedo- Fortunately that speed is kept in check thanks to the superb cruise control, perfect for when you just want to relax.
This car portrays an image of class and sophistication which you simply do not get in any other marque. We sell a lot of prestige vehicles, but it is always especially nice when we get something that is truly special, and in my opinion this 9-5 really is a very special car.
We have a partial service history up to 2014 as the car has been serviced by the owner in its latter years
