    My mother was far from a perfect parent, and bless her heart, she tried her best. I'm one of the few growing up that had a mom that would play games with me. She taught me how to play SMB3, Tetris (I'm from the lost time of 1990, btw) and Ghouls and Ghosts. My first console was a Sega Genesis and my fondest memory of it was watching my mother and her friend beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2. (I believe I was only 2 at the time) Never had my dad growing up. (though from what I hear he was a master of Mike Tyson's Punchout)
    Gaming means more to me than just playing games. It's about my family, my friends and my competition. It's about connecting to people on not just a digital plane but a physical one.

    • @kagesong
      @kagesong 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I grew up as a gamer. I'm 29 now. If I ever am blessed with kids, I hope more than anything that we can bond over things like games. I'm fairly physically disable, so it would be really great. I could NEVER imagine destroying a generally positive thing that brings my kids joy. Their drugs or alcohol? Well, yeah. Games? Hell no, especially not in a way that is physically abusive to my kid and his friend. Discipline is very different from punishment.

      The problem isn’t the blaming it’s the lack of getting the situation under control. If my child becomes addicted to video games then I’m taking away the video games until they get their life back in order. You don’t let an alcoholic have access to alcohol. Well you also don’t let an addicted gamer have access to video games. My dad once questioned me when I asked him to lock away my video games because I was becoming addicted and told me to just stop playing. But you see it’s called an addiction for a reason. So I decided to just break all my devices. Yeah I wasted money but I also saved my mental and physical health because I was forced to find alternatives to gaming.

      One hand it isn't healthy kids playing games for god knows how long. I play regularly and did in my childhood not that i thought it was unhealthy but considering everyday life, kids need to function, properly. Not sit half awake or angry because they couldn't do a mission/level/ or got trolled to which there is no end and they defo will not leave the game until a resolution had been sought.
      On the other hand, moderation is fine.

    I don't think my parents would ever smash my console
    1. Firstly, because that worths money, lots of it, and they would probably sell it in the worse case scenario. But they wouldn't do that neither, as it's my money and we really have this thing of "if you worked for it, you have the ownership over it".
    2. Secondly, _I don't have a console._ I guess they could attack my pc, but they wouldn't because of point 1.

He needs to realize the only reason he is able to play is because his dad bought him stuff. Now, he is not a child anymore, and his dad shouldn’t provide for him. If he wants to keep gaming, he needs to earn his own money, buy his own stuff, and game in his free time. The dad should’ve just taken his own stuff(that his money he bought the games with) and told his son to get a job.

It was a different time though as I generally managed my time between gaming/playing outside with friends/and playing with toys when i was younger.
    They were also pretty enthusiastic about me making friends around the world when it came to PC gaming. My mom would hear British accents and European accents (obviously talking about the worst immature shit lol) and be like "oh where are your clan members from?"

    I don’t have to worry about this anymore.
    My parents literally locked me out of ALL of my accounts on MY computer. Then they sold it on eBay because when I tried to start a conversation on Discord, that one annoying kid came up to me and said that same 2 words. “Who asked!” I ended up in an argument with that kid that got to the point of swearing. I accidentally pressed message instead of mention, and for some reason, an invite for another Discord server was sent. The server that I was in had a no DM Advertising rule. Eventually some moderators got into the situation, and the kid showed the screenshot of the accidental direct message. Unfortunately, the screenshot was enough to prove me guilty of DM Advertising, the kid won the argument, and I got hit with a 1 week server ban, followed by a month of channel restrictions. My parents found out about this, and that’s why I’m anonymously typing this message. My helicopter parents , or ahem, the little brat, basically just ruined my internet life. Fortunately, I am a quick adapter and in a few weeks or a month I will forget about the argument and move on with life.
