Holy crap. This is crazy. Pierre-Luc Dubois was just traded a few hours ago to the Washington Capitals and I honestly think this is the funniest thing.

The Kings gave up Iafallo, Vilardi and a second round pick (I’m not sold on Kupari) for a soon to be 34 year old Kuemper. They also had to move Durzi to make cap space to make the contract extension happen. Great work Rob Blake.

As a Kings fan I hated the trade for PLD right when it happened, and it turned it even worse than I thought he's probably my least favorite Kings player ever he's rarely engaged, he plays no defense, he's weak on the puck, and loses every puck battle idk how Rob Blake got out of that contract without giving up picks/prospects thank God I don't have to watch him for 7 more years

How did LA pull this off
Well as a Caps fan this trade was probably the hardest to swallow this summer. I don’t think anyone disagrees in his skills so the Caps believe, like past teams, they can release it. Does he want to prove himself or is he chasing money and a set job? Maybe he’s just another Kuzy? What happens if he’s not?
PLD seems like a total loser, glad he's not on my team.

Kings teaded away Iafallo, Vilardi, Kupari and the 2nd round pick they had acquired for Durzi. Combined salary. $10.1 million.
Acquired Dubois at a cap hit of $8.5 mill for 1 year. Saved $1.6 mill.
Traded for Kuemper for 2 years at $5.25 mill for 2 years....saved $4.95 mill per season from where they started for 2 more seasons than LA is clear.
kuemper sucks, PLDiva is toxic waste, and the players that went to the jets are good to useful.
5 mil in cap space doesn't matter when you don't have an NHL caliber goalie, and you make your team worse. edmonton could save more than that by trading mcdavid for gallagher, but that doesn't mean it makes the team better.
blake and his mentor bergevin need to be fired. out of a cannon, into a brick wall. the caps GM needs to be fired too, for this move alone. i swear they want to be the most hated team in the league.

Everyone reacting this way is so surface level and emotional. No actual analysis or understanding of the teams’ contexts. Risky, sure, but for both teams. LA basically traded all those players and prospects for old af Darcy Kuemper. That is not saving Blake’s job unless they win the cup or close next year. With the cap going up the Caps have plenty of room and are in a position to gamble a bit. Yeah he’s a diva, but PLD really only had 1 bad season in a system where he was utilized incorrectly the whole time. If any coach can get through to him it’s Spencer Carbery. Love the move for DC tbh.
if he wanted to be utilized correctly, he should have given some fucking effort. all his problems are his own goddamn fault. until he sees this, he is going to be the most useless human in the NHL. honestly, to me utilizing him correctly would mean having him clean up elephant crap at the zoo. he hasn't earned more respect than that.
Caps also lucked out getting into this most recent playoffs....with a ton of older dudes about to retire on expiring big dollar contracts. PLD at worst will help the Caps meet the cap floor for years to come as this team might need years to find it's new identity with many younger guys coming up. This absolutely makes sense for the Caps.

I’m a gigantic caps fan and loved to see Dubois play little and bad with kings. Now I am extremely excited. Glad he is in Washington. He has found his home and I believe. He will play under a type of NHL coach he hasn’t seen. I believe he will score 30 goals and 75 points this year. His best season so far.
