This is the best example of an NHL team using offer sheets that I know of. Very clever, well planned, and they will get at least one of the 2 players, while the Oilers are right up against the cap.

Wow, that's pretty crazy about Buchnevich, lol. Blues just screwed us right up the ass with this one. I don't understand why we re-signed Perry at 1.4 and sign guys like JBrown and CCarrick instead of focusing on our younger, better RFAs??

If Broberg did not want to negotiate earlier. And if Boberg asked for a trade earlier... Then he obviously wants out of the organization and we will not be able to retain him after this 2-year contract comes to completion.
I am reluctant to let a solid defenseman go - bu if he does not want to be an Oiler then let him walk. A pity.

I'm not sure it's worth matching the Broberg offer at $4.58 million. He had a good playoff but it's not sure that he can hold that level, and for that money they could look for an experienced right-shot defenseman at the trade deadline. It doesn't look like he wants to be with the team anyway. Somebody would have to be moved out, but by the trade deadline they'll have a better idea of who's working out and who's not. With the forward group they have they can score more goals than Nurse/Ceci will let in, at least in regular season play.

I understand Broberg first taking the massive payday and he’s also had frustration with the organization but it’s my belief this won’t be looked upon favourably by the room or the fans if the oilers match, Holloway on the other hand I don’t see his motivation for doing this he’s young a extra million isn’t a lot especially when we hear reports he was looking for a one year deal, he’s a Canadian kid from Alberta playing in a spot to win multiple Stanley cups and with Skinners deal only being for 1 year he’s a lock in the top 9 and most likely top 6 next year. I do believe if the Oilers match the fan base or the room won’t have a problem with him moving forward.

Keep Broberg. Talk about him wanting to leave has pretty much faded away. Blues offered him that much money because it's obvious what he adds to a defense. That's a lot of money for where he's at right now, but his potential is worth the gamble. I can see him being a top four defenseman in the not-too-distant future. Maybe even this coming year. Don't screw around with it. Put him out there and let him play. He can play both left and right sides. Great skater and moves the puck well. Third best d-man behind Bouchard and Ekholm. Defense first! He got a lot of experience in Bakersfield. And it showed during the playoffs. His ability really stood out. That's why Vinnie had to take a seat in the press box. Team pretty much stacked up front. Losing Holloway would hurt a little, but not that much. I'd like to keep him too, but it might not be possible. If it really comes down to it, I'd keep Broberg, and I'll be surprised and disappointed if the team doesn't do that. That's assuming he really doesn't want to leave. Defense first! We shouldn't be angry at them for signing the offer sheets. If we were in their position we'd do the same thing. And put Bowman on LTIR!

Lots to say I am not a finicial expert for the NHL things, but McDavid and company cannot ask for the moon UNTIL they win a cup your salary stays the same until you win a cup. 2 could Broberg and Dylans agents have holded them out on Edmonton just to get to a offer sheet. From what I see a lot of sigings from holland and company that dont make any sense, Edmonton needs some smart money managment when you have a team like this and penny pinching do it smart. In the end its the fans that want the cup and pay these players/managment salaries.

Admittedly, I am new to the inner workings of the NHL, but it seems too me the Oilers made a big mistake here and didn't make signing Broberg and Holloway a big enough priority and this is the price they pay. They have dragged their feet on this for far too long and look where it got them. They should have, like some people have already said, not signed Perry or Brown until they had their UFAs and RFAs dealt with.

  • @stephenbarringtonleigh367

I don't think that it is possible to keep both. Even if the Oilers put Kane on LTIR as it sounds like they will, the math just doesn't add up. We will need to trade away soneone too. If we do we are getting dangerously close to not having a full roster. So the Oilers are between a rock and a hard place here. Let Broberg join the Blues and match Holloway. This wouldn't have even happened to Holland, because Armstrong is his friend, but maybe instead of signing a bunch of older and fringe players, Jackson could have either signed even one of his RFAs or maybe left a bit of cap space. The Oilers hired a pariah GM where there isn't going to be any blowback from other GMs and Dubas even helped make this happen by traded St Louis their pick back. After trying to squeeze these RFAs to sign for as little as they can get away with I'm not going to blame these players for actually wanting to get paid. The revenge talk is bs, look at the Blues history, they don't let their top young players just linger out there all summer long. They have a history of locking up their young guys early and for decent deals at that. In addition to not only does the player have to be available July 1 the Oilers would need the picks to give up and the cap space. Neighbors will be 6m+ that's 1st round pick territory or more because even if the Oilers offered around market value for him the Blues would just match that, the have the cap to do so.

Ken hollands fault? He literally just finished almost winning us the cup. This is solely on Bowman if you are to blame anyone. He had 2 simple tasks since he took over. Jackson left it super easy for him. Sign holloway and broberg. And sign draisaitl.

Screw both of them. There is no way either is worth the money signed. Bring Tyson Barry back and any young fifth liner that Holloway would actually be on the Current Oilers roster. These two are so not with the money they signed for. And don’t tell me Dylan Holloway’s integrity is intact. Screw him.

  • @darpompie4354

Blaming Ken Holland is just a poor attempt at deflection from Oiler hired media. Jeff Jackson made it very clear to Holland that he was not going to be re-signed. From that point forward, if Jeff Jackson was not over-seeing everything Holland was doing with a microscope, then that falls squarely on him. Use to be a fan of Jackson, but from the GM hiring and onward, he's been a total disaster.

When you look at the oilers D, it is very thin. The ideal situation is to trade away Nurse and his contract. Will probably need to throw in a huge sweetner like 1st and 2nd rounder.

@@ABC-sc2ip Perry to the ducks, end his career were it started l, they got tons of cap and could likely get a draft pick taking him. Evander Kane to Columbus, they already lack goal scoring which is kanes specialty and their losing laine so he could be the replacement, Columbus would also be able to get a decent draft pick with him so it’s a win win.

Take the deals and bury them in the minors for the year. Have to pay them but don’t count against the cap. Like I said, Holloway would have been on the 4th line anyway. Kane goes on LTIR and you can keep Ceci. Let Holloway and Broberg sit for a year in the minors or let them go. Only options I see for this year.

    • @enriqueleon1169
      @enriqueleon1169 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ceci without Nurse played pretty well. In fact, people pairing with Nurse often find it harder to defend, and soon run into problems. So Maybe Ceci isn't the problem. Same thing happened to Larson and Russell with Nurse. Some fans ran them into the ground as well anyway. Same old story with Nurse isn't it.
