  • I made an overview video for anyone that wants to know a little about the JD 450c loader / dozer or see them run. I have a lot of dirt work to do on the farm and am always testing what I have at hand to see what they can do.

      How do I know if I have a 450 c or b? No serial number

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChetDoesTile It's a little harder to tell because they look about the same. I use the serial plate, but I bet you could check the fluids to see if it has wet clutches VS dry clutches. I think A and B were dry and C used wet clutches.

      @@SeidelRanch ok I have fluid in the right side hole above the sprocket that I can see. none that I can see or feel in the left. does not steer as well to the right, but does steer. How can I tell If wet or dry clutches by looking?

    I like the way the older JD crawlers look , They just have that classic dozer look.

      Agree. They are what you think of when you say dozer.

    I have one just like yours. it's about 95% good shape. I have the same plates without grousers. I have new SALT chains, new rock guards, new sprockets, new chain rollers( make sure you fill them with oil) new seats, the armrests were terrible and the material always rotted but I used a diff material to stop that problem. The best thing was that it came with a Drott 4-way bucket. Amazing. I have cleared 10 acres of brush and huge ass redwood stumps about 50 of them and loaded hundreds of the logs. The work it did for my time with it was incredible. I still have it but I have to replace the hyd pump shear pin. I can't say enough good about it. your sprocket needs replacing. you can get individual sprockets and weld them in but too much welding for me and you need new chain. I am stringent about greasing everything and use a lot of thread- lock esp for hyd. fittings. good luck.........P/O

      Awesome. I'm glad it's been great for you. As I use it, I find that I want to restore it like you did. These are awesome machines. I would love the 4in1 bucket. I don't see them much.

    My homeboy has had the older (‘74) version of this unit for years. He’s real good at operating it and it has some great features. Self-leveling bucket. Not too big to transport. One thing I hear about these units is the transmission is unbelievably expensive to fix if it goes south. Other than that, these are very good machines. Just subscribed!

      Thanks for checking out the video and the sub! I do like this JD 450 platform for all the things you posted. Big enough to work but small enough for a 1 ton to move. I have heard that too on the transmission. People say it's better to find a donor machine to replace it instead of trying to rebuild the transmission. I hope I never have to do either. 🤞

    I have a JD 450 CA and need to replace the lift hyd line. I do not see any videos on this and you side you already replace one. Do you have a video on that or advice on how to do it ?

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have changed the hoses on the lift cylinders and I have to say it was not fun but I got it done. I had to pull the cylinders out from the frame to do it. Are you just changing the rubber hoses or do you need to replace any metal lines also?

    • @jwracingteam8454
      @jwracingteam8454 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SeidelRanch just the rubber lines. Looks like two on each side and a joint . So maybe a total of 4 lines. I'm thinking the loader is so old and is so had to get to the lines to remove the bucket and arms has an assembly by unhooked and drive out from it and replacing all lines.

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jwracingteam8454 You could. I just pulled out the cylinders because there is no room to get to the hoses unless you move them. I had a busted metal line also that I had to weld, so that made it even more of a pain but its doable and not too bad. If you don't have another person around you may want to park near a tree or have a hoist to lift those heavy cylinders. I parked under a tree and used ropes to pull them out, but I changed them in the field.

    Those chains and sprockets are about toast. Sorry to say. On chains you need to look at the bushings and also the part of the link that rides on the rollers. And yours are about a half inch thinner then new. Not hatin on your machine. There great dozers. Just don’t want someone watching this and then thinking those chains and sprockets are good like you say.

    • @SeidelRanch
      @SeidelRanch  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see some wear on the chains, but they still have a lot of life left compared to most of the other machines I looked at. The sprockets are barely worn. Why would the sprockets be toast?

    • @Mad.Man.Marine
      @Mad.Man.Marine 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeidelRanch when they are at a sharp point like that. The sprockets are almost toast. They start to break off tips of the teeth regularly. A new sprocket will be about 3/4” thick at the tip of the tooth. Yours look to be about a 1/4. Soooo. That means they are about used up. As far as the chains. The flat part of the chain that faces down when on the top roller and up when on the bottom roller is where the wear will be. And yours are getting very thin. The links will start to snap in half. I’ve seen it many many times for what you will most likely use it for and the amount you’ll use it. There’s prob tons of life left. But... that doesn’t mean there in great shape.

    • @kirkpalmer1709
      @kirkpalmer1709 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeidelRanch Those rails are getting pretty thin, and the sprockets are way beyond barely worn. But as long as the tracks don't fall off, keep running it.
