  • This old 1975 450B had a rough life, but I think its worth saving. Follow along this multi part series to watch me make a good machine out of this rusty old iron

    Enjoyed watching you work on that old dozer. My Dad worked on them in the 60's and 70's. Brings back memories.

    Awesome video as always. Whatever you're fixing it's fun to watch you go through the steps. How to we purchase a Spanks Ranch Garage T-Shirt. "Cracking Beers and Grabbin Gears". Love it!

    Looks like quite the project! There is something deeply satisfying about working on heavy equipment though. Especially older stuff in disrepair. Watching this kind of made me miss my old farming job.

    Just so you know the clutch bellhousing will fill with rain water it has a loose cotter key that sticks out the bottom of the housing that needs to be spun from time to time. The water will fill up and run into the starter and it makes the clutch slip and freezes and locks the flywheel. Nice work you have a nice runner.

      Great advice! I’ll make sure my bellhousing drain is open.

    I worked on the throttle cable on my 1978 JD 350c dozer for about a month, soaking and trying to break it loose. Then ordered a new one. 😅

    Great job man only things I would done differently I would have replaced all 4 injectors with new ones and would have smoothed out the welds you done
    But all things considered you did a great job. Gonna be a great dozer for you
    Thanks for video

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. I have many many more videos on this dozer. I would of loved to replace all 4 but with the amount of other things needing repair on this unit, the 300 dollars saved in injectors will be well spent elsewhere. Thanks for watching!

    I'm fixing to buy an 1980 450-B it needs starter and a track welded and put back on. I've never worked on one but I'll give it a try

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you poke around on JDcrawlers.com, some guys have part numbers for a new and improved starter. Its smaller and easier to install and actually pretty cheap (100-150 bucks)

    What happened to the throttle cable? did you free it up or did you replace it?

    • @spankranchgarage

      I ended up having to replace it. I couldnt save the old one

    Did you consider brazing that cast?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I did consider it, and it probably would of worked for a long time. I read good reviews about these welding rods so I decided to give it a try. So good so far about a year in

    Does that filter in front of the rad look like someone put in aftermarket? I'd assume it's for the hydraulic system?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope that is a factory filter. It is for the HLR transmission. There is an oil cooler up there for the transmission too. The hydraulic system filter is inside the hydraulic tank on the side of the machine

    • @wepplerd63
      @wepplerd63 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ahh okay. I've got a 72' 350B and I don't think it has an external trans filter unless I haven't found it yet

    Iam looking A JD 450d with 900 back hoe and has been stored indoors it’s a 1971-2 undercarriage all locks and pair is nice and it’s factory not a rattle can. The guys dad died and this was his pride and joy on the farm. But it won’t start been setting 3-4 years so your video has helped me what to look for and he wants 10K no hour meter and with not running and no hr meter he wants to much I think but it does have a nice bucket and the hoe is nice ?

    • @spankranchgarage
      @spankranchgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t disagree as I’ve only seen them on C models but being that this is a 1975 maybe JD put them on a year early??
